Blind Items Revealed #5
October 16, 2015
This foreign born former B+ list mostly movie actress was in some really big movies. Academy Award winning movies. She says she lost the lead role in two late 80’s early 90’s blockbuster movies to this still A+ list mostly movie actress because unlike the A+ lister she was not willing to sleep with someone to get the role.
Valeria Golino/Julia Roberts
Someone sounds like they're bitter and should move on.
ReplyDeletePretty Woman and Mystic Pizza?
ReplyDeleteTricia13 NAILED IT!
ReplyDeleteI googled this woman to see what she looked like in the late 80s/early 90s compared to julia roberts. i dont like julia roberts so i feel i could be objective
ReplyDeletesweetie, that wasnt the reason you lost out
She is *way* more pretty + a better actress than Julia, but...that's just Hollywood. Pay to play, baby.
ReplyDeletePretty Woman and Steel Magnolias.
ReplyDeleteI agree. She looked a bit like Elizabeth Hurley back in the day but with a wider nose. Much prettier than Roberts, imo
ReplyDeleteSteel Magnolias? How was a woman with an Italian accent going to play a southern belle?
ReplyDeleteYa right...bitch please!
ReplyDeleteTotally different types of actresses.
I remember her and she wasn't that great, she couldn't even get rid of her accent.
ReplyDeleteSeriously. Anyone could say that. 'I coulda been a contender!' Pfft
ReplyDeletedon't kid yourselves. roberts was a big ol' whore back then. she slept around to get ahead for sure
ReplyDeleteI think Roberts is very pretty but so is Golino. She was in Immortal Beloved and something with Richard Gere, a remake of a French film, can't remember the name.
ReplyDeleteShe could have easily done Pretty Woman. She would have been better than Roberts who is not much of an actress.
It's considered well known trivia, this came from IMDB.
ReplyDeleteWhen casting for the leading role in Pretty Woman (1990), it came down to Valeria and Julia Roberts (the latter was eventually cast). Before the audition, Roberts whispered to her: 'Go and get them, big mama!'. The same thing happened shortly thereafter when Golino narrowly missed out on the leading role in Flatliners (1990): once again, she was first runner-up to Roberts.
Had to Google it.
ReplyDeleteBreathless remake 1983 Richard Here & Valerie Kapriskie.
Orig in 1960 - Jean-Paul Belmondo who was def hotter thsn Gere, even though Gere looked good in 83. ☺
If you read the rest of the Wikipedia article, she also "backed out" of a few other films she was offered for "personal reasons". It sounds to me like she made some bad choices.
ReplyDeleteAnd yes, she and Julia Roberts may have been up for a role or two, but I cannot believe that she would ever have had Julia's career if she'd gotten the roles instead. She doesn't have the "it" factor that made Julia so popular. In fact, I hardly remember her even though she made some big movies. Kind of like whats-her-face in "Flashdance".
Well I got the first 6 letters of her name right.
ReplyDeleteI wonder who she would have had to sleep with to get those roles.
+1 You might sleep with someone to get a role (not sure I even believe Julia did that - sounds like sour grapes to me), but you cannot maintain the career that Julia Roberts has had by sleeping your way to the top. Talent, hard work and the IT factor are more important than who you sleep with if you want to be more than a one-hit wonder.
ReplyDeleteShe's directing in Europe, she's doing fine.

when I think of Valeria Golina I think of her as Tom Cruise's girlfriend in "Rainman".
ReplyDeleteAlso, according to Pretty Woman IMBD page (as we put on original thread) Valeria G.WAS offered the role of Vivian before Julia Roberts (as many many other actresses were)and she turned it down.
Big Top Pee-Wee. She made me feel all tingly in my manly region.
ReplyDeleteShe's still gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteYeah, having those damn standards & self-respect sure can get in the way of a career by not screwing on a casting couch. But hey, I hear it's normal in Hollywood. I bet the clinics out there stay busy with blood tests & other 'side-effects' of being on that couch.
ReplyDelete**Disclaimer: It's one thing if there's mutual attraction and they wanna sleep together. Otherwise it's a glorified version of the oldest profession in the world.
