Blind Item #10- Old Hollywood
Throughout her life, this permanent A+ list mostly movie actress had photos and portraits and clippings of this A list mostly movie actor scattered throughout her house. The closted gay actor was her very best friend. Until the day he died, she would never go out socially unless he would be present.

ReplyDeleteOr Liz Taylor/Rock hudson
ReplyDeleteTaylor and Roddy McDowall
ReplyDeletePrior to RM it was Monty Cliff
ReplyDeleteI think Derek got it. Doris Day is a recluse and always seemed to be.

ReplyDeleteyeah it's definitely ET and MC they were inseparable.
Liz Taylor with Montgomery Clift
ReplyDeleteIt was a toss-up between Day/Hudson & Taylor/McDowall for me, but sandybrook makes a great point about Doris Day's reclusiveness.
ReplyDeleteI loved them together - was always fond of McDowall. Such an underrated actor, in my opinion.
ReplyDeleteI'm also thinking this is probably applicable to many, many Old Hollywood types.

ReplyDeleteTaylor and Hudson or Clift.
DD became a recluse later in life changed her name but she stopped going out in public etc in 2008 or so, I think it has to do with old age?

Wouldn't the blind include foreign-born if it was Elizabeth Taylor? Her parents were American though...still not sure how this works
ReplyDeleteNope. Just took a look at another Old Hollywood blind and ET was not described foreign-born previously. Sorry
ReplyDeleteYes because Liz was always out and about and not with the possible candidates. It's most likely Doris and Rock.
ReplyDeleteLiz fell in love with Monty and who could blame her.
This could be more than half a dozen Old Hollywood actresses and actors.
ReplyDeleteElizabeth Taylor also adored John Huston. I was working at Laird Studios on a toy commercial in 1984 and I saw them together over several days hanging out; and John would recklessly drive his golf cart around the studio with Elizabeth in the passenger seat. This was between John shooting scenes for the movie 'Prizzi Honor.' with Jack Nicholson and Kathleen Turner.
I feel doris day and rock hudson for this.
ReplyDeletestraight girls and gay men are often the closest thing to platonic soulmates youll often find.
taylor/clift. they were always together.
ReplyDeleteNobody was straighter than than Elizabeth Taylor- she married 7( or8) different men .
ReplyDeleteTaylor and Hudson. Notoriously close and he was her best friend, true love (her words).
I think everyone can agree the female is Elizabeth Taylor. However, she was very close with several gay men: Montgomery Cliff, Rock Hudson, and Roddy McDowall. It could be any one of those men.
ReplyDeleteTaylor and Clift were best friends, but Taylor went out plenty without him. This is Doris Day and Rock Hudson. She remains a recluse to this day, only leaving her house when absolutely necessary.
ReplyDeleteLiz met Roddy when she was 6. Monty came along in her late teens, early twenties. They just don't make 'em like her anymore, do they? One of the proudest days of my life was when I won a 'Liz Taylor Look Alike Contest' in Atlanta. Have the photo to prove it. People look at it and say, "Who is THAT!?" Don't have the onions to tell them she was me! That was 55 years ago, y'all.
ReplyDelete+1, It couldn't be Liz, because she had so many husbands and gay friends. I can't see her singled out just one of them.
ReplyDeleteMy first thought was Taylor/McDowell but I had a little trouble working him (or any other gay guy for that matter) in socially to all her marriages. I somehow can't see some guy tagging along with Taylor/Burton or Taylor/Todd or Taylor Fortensky. Would the husband really go along with a third wheel? So from that perspective, Doris Day makes more sense.
