Technically this A list rapper with three straight number one albums is foreign born in an Amy Adams kind of way. A fan contacted him and said both of her parents were in jail and she had no one to attend her graduation. Our rapper not only attended the graduation but came bearing gifts and tickets to his show the next night.
J Cole
Who?
ReplyDeleteSo his parents were American military stationed overseas while he was born, finally got it.
ReplyDeleteIt is really kind
ReplyDeleteNever heard of him which is too bad because he's obviously a sweetheart.
ReplyDeleteAgree @French girl.
ReplyDeleteEnty will never understand that a child born on a US military installation is considered to have been born in the United States and he has no interest in absorbing that fact. Odd for someone who supposedly practice(d) law.
ReplyDeleteSounds nice. But never heard of him either.
ReplyDeleteReally nice of him but if some people haven't heard of him, I don't understand how he's A list...
ReplyDeleteI know where you're coming from but that's not completely true. I was born overseas as well on a military base. My Dad was stationed at a US air force base in the UK. While I'm definitely a naturalized citizen, I also have dual citizenship since I was born on foreign soil. (I just applied for my first passport so I had to go through all this--UK birth certificate, USA citzenship papers, etc.) Basically, it all depends on the relationship between the US and the country of birth. For instance, since the US and the UK are buddies, they recognize each other and allow dual citizenship. The US won't make you choose. Annnd, that's more than you ever wanted to know about this smartass. LOL
ReplyDeleteVery sweet thing. Heard of him. Couldn't tell you one thing he sings/ raps or whatever he does.
ReplyDeleteMy wife's a smartass, too.
ReplyDeleteI think it has something with growing up as a military dependent.
:-)
Surprised no one's heard of him, he's a pretty big deal in hip-hop and quite talented. Anyway, very nice thing he did.
ReplyDeleteThis isn't even a blind. It was widely reported back in June (over 2 months before Enty posted it here). http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2015/06/26/j-cole-attends-fan-graduation_n_7666460.html
ReplyDeleteThe girl reached out to J Cole in 2013 and he kept in touch with her for 2 years. He promised he would come to graduation if she kept her grades up and got accepted to a 4 year school. She did and he went to the ceremony. He even told her that he would help with her college tuition. He sounds like a really great guy. Respect.
Forgot to mention, he even routed his tour dates so that he would be able to attend.
ReplyDeleteYup, this happened here in New Jersey. It was at my brother's graduation. We didn't know J. Coke was there, until the end of the ceremony. He's a great man for this is deserves much respect.
ReplyDelete*Cole! Damn autocorrect
ReplyDeleteI met him at a concert once. What a great guy. We were talking music, sports, etc. He is one of the rare good guys.
