This former Glee actor has been trying to get another headlining Broadway gig but no one is willing to take a chance. His horrible ticket sales makes him a second lead at best right now but he is still living in some fantasy in his head that he was a big television star.

His sales for Hegwig were pretty bad, whereas other acts the numbers were impressive.
ReplyDeleteFinding Neverland is /was a hit. Just had its biggest week grossing week (s) over holidays, since it opened.Grammar and Morrison were both great.. He's leaving because of the grind.
ReplyDeletehttp://pagesix.com/2016/01/03/finding-neverland-was-a-holiday-hit/
ReplyDeleteThat's a concert Darren is doing at Carnegie Hallcnot a Broadway production it seems.I read it like he wants to be on Broadway again as a lead.
ReplyDeleteNeverland was amazing but sold out alot and hard to get tickets for. We had to submit like 5 or 6 dates.
Yes, Neverland has always been an hit, costantly, so D Criss.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, as much as i dislike D criss rn and is A LOT, i wouldn't say Hedwig sales were " horrible", yes, they weren't very good, but the show tickets sales were already starting to drop, the show has already " lost the steam". If anything, his presence didn't change that, so, yes, he should rethink his importance, if this blind is thrue, and since i don't buy his " i am such a humble person "act at all anymore, i think this is thrue.
Having said that, i think it would be good for him to accept a second lead role, establish himself more and THEN try to find the lead role, but, since he and his team are idiots, who knows...
Nothing wrong with his attitude. I, too, was a big TV star: "In my own private Idaho!"
ReplyDeleteObviously NOT Matt Morrison. Definitely Darren Criss. This has been one of the easiest blinds in awhile. C'mon Entard.
ReplyDeleteOmg you're frist! Again! You must really have no life! I admire you much!
ReplyDeleteLOL
ReplyDeleteShe also has an impressive knowledge of Glee stars and Broadway plays, so she must have a life!
Actually never saw An episode if Glee- but it's a gossip site, so his name has come up - it's called general recall. I grew up around Broadway and worked in etc, so yeah- I do have a knowledge of it. That's called culture and the arts...look into sometime.
ReplyDeleteYou seem to know a lot about well there's gotta be something.....oh yea Britney Spears- congrats Claire:)
Heck yeah, I love Britney. No shame in my game. She is the most iconic woman of my generation.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, whatever, if you wanna spend your life being the first to guess on blind items, that's cool, I guess.
um, it only takes a minute or two to throw in a guess when they go up--- even if there were 50/day...it's hardly "sands through the hourglass" spending my life-- it's a minute portion of it. If you wanna spend yours speculating and being strangely- curious about it- that's cool, I guess! So "cool" then
ReplyDelete:)
Certainly intended to be D Criss and certainly planted by someone trying to inflict some damage on him. I mean, he's not doing anything offensive so what is the point of this blind? Like MariaJ said, his ticket sales for Hedwig were not horrible. It's a niche show with a VERY limited audience that never really belonged on broadway. It had exhausted its appeal after its first three star runs. Taye Diggs, certainly a bigger star in H'wood, had ticket sales which were much worse. The show had run its course. IMO, the guy is talented and appealing but he really doesn't have a traditional broadway voice (it was suited for the rock score of Hedwig, though). I think he's better off seeking TV/film. Also, everyone in NY theatre knows why Neverland is still running, and it ain't cuz it's a great show or Morrison's appeal (although I personally like him).
ReplyDeleteDarren Criss had a nice bump in sales for his three weeks in How To Succeed but there was no way he was going to hold the sales NPH could generate in Hedwig. If he was under the delusion he would, good that he learned that now.
ReplyDelete" had ticket sales which were much worse. " No, Taye Diggs ticket sales were NOT " much worse", his numbers keep in getting worse like D's numbers, and if i recall well, Criss has STILL the WORST tickets sales week ( but i should check).
ReplyDeleteIt's not like to be fair to D criss we should be unfair to Taye Diggs, hu?
Darren SuperStraight Criss
ReplyDeleteI'm not disparaging Taye Diggs; I'm a fan. If you know the show, I don't think anyone was under the delusion that Criss would get the sales NPH did. In fact, NO other actor who played Hedwig on Broadway came near NPH's sales. NPH was the Tony winner, and sales dropped by nearly 50% when he left the show. Criss had the single lowest week, during a holiday week, over Taye by a mere couple hundred dollars, but unfortunately Taye's sales averaged about $100,000/wk less IIRC than Criss over the life of their respective runs. The point being, that NPH (the first Hedwig) was the peak of ticket sales and every actor dropped after him, more significantly around the time the show hit the one-year mark. So, if Diggs is a bigger name than Criss (is that in dispute?) and Digg's numbers were worse than Criss's numbers, how much of that decrease is the actor's fault and how much is show fatigue? Finding Neverland is a family show with an iconic story as part of its base; Hedwig is not. These are very different shows. The best show I saw last season was the OBC of Hand to God, and it had a horrible box office. Doesn't mean those actors weren't incredible; that show just had limited appeal.
ReplyDelete" but unfortunately Taye’s sales averaged about $100,000/wk less IIRC than Criss over the life of their respective runs." Then, to make an honest comparition, you should see how much LOWER Criss sales were than JCM, and you have to do that considering that ANYWAY T. Diggs shows were even further in Hedwig run, so, even further in the show " lost steam"
ReplyDeleteSo, again, you can't say that Diggs's sales were " much worse", all things considered. Actually, when i heard that T Diggs was taking over Hedwige, i thought it was a bad idea.
What defender of Criss fail to acknowledge is that yes, D Criss sales may not be as bad as appears, but Hedwig was an important step for him to test his popularity after Glee ( AND with Glee still fresh in mind ), that test to me has shown that he is smaller than his fans, and according to this blind himself, think, and he should rethink his attitude.Hence the response from producers shows, always according to this blind. Actually, if we look at A LOT Of things, he has failed the popularity test many times, but, ehi, good for him to have such a good opinion about himself.
P.S. I do not see the point of you comparing Neverland and Hedwig, people have talked about Neverland just to say that Neverland did good, so, it couldn't be Morrison.
Marginally to THIS blind " I mean, he’s not doing anything offensive " I would beg to differ.
ReplyDeleteMariaJ, you simply make my stated point: that Hedwig was losing steam, a trend that started when NPH left and continued with every subsequent actor until the show closed with Diggs. That's all. I fail to see what is offensive about an actor looking for work? Is it offensive if Taye looks for work post-Hedwig also? I don't know anything else about his post-Glee career, but I assume he'll succeed or fail on his own merits.
ReplyDeleteOMG you guys are seriously arguing over how they worded the sales as begin horrible? It is a site thats main goal is to be bitchy and sell oleo out with gossip. They aren't looking for facts. The item is about Darren like it or not he thinks he is some huge BWAY star and even tries to interject himself inot other shows and event whenever possible.
ReplyDeleteDo you read? That's a one-off concert that he is, again, a replacement before. Just call him Mr. Professional Replacement. No one wants him until they have no other option.
ReplyDeleteFinding Neverland was a financial success and Morrison has a Tony nomination. It's Darren. The only gig he has is replacing Jeremy Jordan in some concerts.
ReplyDeleteYMMV but his transphobia is offensive to me. As is his voice and his "acting".
ReplyDeleteIt's hardly a secret this is D Criss and it's a hardly a secret within the industry that he has a massively inflated sense of self. He came off of Glee knowing he wasn't going to get big movie roles after his first outing bombed and didn't want to go back to TV. His solo attempt already failed and his album got shelved but the contract he signed (the standard one Columbia gave all the Glee kids interested) is iron clad and now they own all the music. People in the industry can smell desperation and when someone wants to do broadway for the publicity or because they have no other option, and D Criss reeks of both. He's constantly trying to insinuate and ingratiate himself to the community and industry despite not having put in any of the time and effort. He thinks he can buy his way in on his name but that's a joke we all laugh at because his name holds very little weight on broadway and his "fans" are disruptive morons that no other actors want to deal with. (Beau Bridges once called him an entitled pissant within earshot of Criss and all of us in the chorus during his HTS stint because of it.) He's already burned bridges with everyone but the industry Power Gays who still slobber all over him because he'll flirt and cocktease with them. He's best off continuing to buy his drugs from and feel up Adam Shankman at parties (I've personally witnessed both.) and hope that he throws him a lead role bone because no matter how hard he tries no one wants to deal with him for minimal rewards.
ReplyDeleteThe pissant comment became the stuff of legends and memes around Tisch.
ReplyDelete" That’s all. I fail to see what is offensive about an actor looking for work?"
ReplyDeleteI wasn't saying that him looking for a work is offensive, why should i, looking for a work is normal, even with a narcisisstic attitude like this blind says, i was referring to the many times he has done and said offensive things.
That's why i wrote " marginally", cause this blind is not about that.
