It always gets me upset when I see some A- list mostly television actress on a soon ending hit pay cable show talk about diversity when she refuses to ever include anyone of color on her show, despite repeated calls for her to have some diversity.
Well in all fairness they didn't have POC in Golden Girls, Sex and The City, Entourage, The Sopranos, The Nanny, Happy Days, etc etc etc sighhhhhh the more things change.........
This is why as much as I don't care for Eva Longoria I will tune in to Telenovela because she is giving some Latino actors much needed work.
Lena Dunham. I remember that after S1, people complained that she didn't have any POC on her show and then in S2, her character randomly had a black boyfriend for a few episodes.
They did do an episode of SATC where Samantha (who had previously been involved with a Cuban) got involved with a black man, whose sister was completely against it and forced him to break it off. Samantha then went on to get involved with a Brazilian woman. They had POC in minor roles, here and there throughout the series, just not as part of the main cast.
Golden Girls had an all white cast, but the spin off had both Cheech Marin and Don Cheadle as part of the permanent cast.
This probably means I'm an old fart, but I still don't get Lena Dunham. Why does anyone care about her, or her show, or anything she says? She's a not particularly funny narcissist, who has all of the worst navel-gazing traits of her generation. Apparently being prepared to be naked on television when you're not an attractive person is enough to make you a star these days.
she digusts me, her remarks, her book, her show. There is nothing "empowering" about her, the characters in her show are nothing like the people who I know who are around the same age, live in Nyc and are educated and hard working. She is an entitled little pig who should diversify her next project if she wants to make a change. Tiny Furniture was garbage and I have tried to watch Girls but it is so stupid and unbelievable. Seinfeld- also- garbage. Golden Girls and Designing Women were good for the 80's, but they did not go to panels and shout about how shows needed diversity. Designing Women was amazing for casting Anthony, he brought a lot to that show...
Lena is a talking head and that is all, she needs to follow through with her words, not just speak for attention or a headline:/
Yawn. Fresh Prince, Family Matters, George Lopez, Fresh Off the Boat, Dr. Ken, My Wife and Kids....to name a few that had predominantly non-white lead actors. I watched and never whined. Get over this, people.
I am happy that Girls is ending because she doesn't have any other talent other than making her bubble and ego the star of the show. She isnt capable of 'diversity' or really any 'diverse' storytelling outside her incubated existence.
According to imdb, Empire has only one cracker chick among the 12 main actors, and another series called black-ish has only one cracker among them who does not even appear in all of the episodes.
Besides this, are there not Chinks, Beaners or Pakis in the US? Because only n words whine about not appearing in succesful (sp) programs.
And once again Kermit demonstrates that he's the dumbest, most appalling douchebag who posts here. Well done to you, Kermit. You must be such a social pariah in real life. How could anyone ever invite you anywhere?
I'm kinda tired of this mandatory diversity. I'm black and feel that just having a token "poc" is as worse as including them. Not all people have a diverse group of friends. Although they may encounter them in their lives they don't do everything with them so i am ok with that. It really does seem like affirmative action for tv shows. If shows want to incorporate them fine if not then no sweat. IF it's really that big an issue why don't all the celebrities get together and create shows for studios to counteract the issue? They definitely have enough money. Anyway I guess Lena Dunham, the only thing going for her is Anton Jackoff who i found hot.
I love Sex & the City, but the episode where Samantha dated the black man was an embarrassment. First they went through some stereotypes and "white guilt" and THEN THEY MADE SAMANTHA THE VICTIM OF THE EVIL BLACK WOMAN!
The thing that bugs me though is that people only complain about really successful shows for not being inclusive. You don't hear about shows that were inclusive but failed.
lena dunham
ReplyDeleteand FWIW she has had many people of colour on her show---the show is about 4 white chicks...

If lena's life has no n words in it, let it be. It has no hobos and I do not see the hobos guild whining because it is not represented.

They also did that embarrassing episode where they talk about Chinese women. Ugh.
