Today's Blind Items- Scared To Work Again
If you are a child of the 90's, you know this show. You loved this show. Well, maybe not. You see there were two shows on the air at the same time. Most tweens picked one or the other. You had to choose one. It was big and ran for a long time. An actress on the show was one of the most popular of all the characters. Everyone loved her. Foreign born. She was huge in the tweener world for this role and when it ended, she dropped off the face of the earth. The reason? The entire time she was on the show, she was being sexually abused by one of the producers. She was young. She thought the producer was in love with her. For years, she did everything he said and never told anyone what was going on between them. She put him before school or friendships. He totally isolated her and used her. Brainwashed her. When the show ended, she thought they would go off into the sunset together. Instead, at the wrap party, he introduced her to a woman he called his girlfriend and said they were going to get married. Our actress was in shock. Numb. She says she does not remember anything for a month or two after that. She is trying to lead a normal life now, but it has been hard. Those years on the show should have been filled with great memories. Instead, it ruined her life.
somebody from degrassi junior high?
ReplyDelete90210 was one, the other escapes me
ReplyDeletedidnt run long enough
ReplyDeleteTori from Saved by the Bell?
ReplyDeleteher name is Leanna Creel hasnt worked much since then.
ReplyDeleteSomeone from Melrose place?
ReplyDeleteOne last guess--Rachel Blanchard of Are You Afraid of the Dark?
ReplyDeleteGonna guess Lily Nicksy-Boy Meets World. Went off to study abroad as soon as show ended.
ReplyDeleteNot sure if foreign born..maybe?
Which shows?? Party of Five and Dawsons Creek?
ReplyDelete+1 Leanna Creel
ReplyDeleteBorn in LA
ReplyDeleteBorn Toronto
ReplyDeleteWhy would you have to pick one show or the other? Odd.
ReplyDeleteMy So Called Life or Sweet Valley High?
ReplyDeleteI can't find any foreign born memorable female characters from these two shows.
ReplyDeleteIf they were on at the same time before DVR and On Demand, kids would have to choose one. Assuming I'm reading the item correctly.
ReplyDeleteNeve Campbell
ReplyDeleteHmmm...Shirlee Elliot who played Lila Fowler on SVH virtually disappeared after the show ended. Not even a wikipedia page, mostly blank bios. Such scant info, it's tough to figure out where she was born. Interesting.
ReplyDeleteAccording to Enty it was super-douche John Cusack who jerked Neve Campbell around for years and destroyed her confidence.
ReplyDeleteShe was married from 1995 - 1998, was born in 1973.
ReplyDeleteShe was four when she was on the show.
ReplyDeleteAccording to wikipedia, she's a lesbian.
ReplyDeleteClarissa Explains it all and The Secret Life of Alex Mack?
ReplyDeleteAfter rethinking this a bit I'm gonna thrown in "The Wonder Years" which was my original thought for the quintessential tweener show. Though it aired 1988- 1993( and went into syndication rather quick I think)- it could fit depending on entys definition of "child of the 90s". born in the late 70's and a tweener themselves in the 90s- or late teens young adult watching 90210?
ReplyDeleteAnyway Krista Murphy was the reoccurring character of Carla Healy and she disappeared more or less after show.Almost no info on her, and can't determine where she was born..here, Abroad......Mars? All Columbo's and Sherlock Holmes'welcome to help out here!!
Toronto is foreign enuff for me.
ReplyDeleteMJH has stuck around okay. Im reminded of the persistent rumour thst she lost her virginity on Clarissas bed though. Larisa Olynick hasnt done much but hardly disappeared and neither is foreign born.
ReplyDeletePart Of Five
ReplyDeleteThe Wonder Years
Life Goes On
Dawsons Creek
Seventh Heaven
What about Step by Step or Family Matters....Something on the TGIF lineup.
ReplyDeleteOlivia d'Abo played Karen on The Wonder Years. She is from England. No idea if she fits.
ReplyDeleteNever mind. She has an active IMDB page.
ReplyDeleteDiana Uribe
ReplyDeleteCalifornia Dreams--Comparable to Saved by the Bell
The only actress not to do the reunion special
born in Puerto Rico
had a cameo in Nash Bridges and Jackie Brown after Dreams but that was all
Kelly Brown from Hey Dude
ReplyDeleteI'm thinking it was someone from Nickelodeon. The producer from iCarly is skanky and pretty much well known to have inappropriate relationships with the young girls on his show.
ReplyDeleteDan Schneider
Amanda Bynes would fit, except- not foreign, didn't drop off the face of the earth after "All That"
ReplyDelete+1 Heard the actress who played sam freaked out over a producer - jennette mccurdy
ReplyDeleteThe Amanda Show ended in 2002. Schneider got married the same year. But still, "foreign"...
ReplyDeleteI guess you've never heard of a video cassette (eg VHS) recorder?
ReplyDeleteOnce upon a time, people used to use them to tape TV shows they couldn't watch. This was the video equivalent of the audio cassette, and most every home had one.
My guess is Diana Uribe from California Dreams... My first thought was Neve from party of five but that seemed too obvious
ReplyDeleteMcCurdy was born in California. She's not "foreign born" and therefore doesn't fit this blind as written.
ReplyDeleteIts long been alleged that McCurdy was involved with the producer(s) of her program.
Still, the only show McCurdy did that could fit this blind is "Icarly" which was a hit and ran for many years on Nick. That wrapped in 2012 when McCurdy was 20. But McCurdy has done quite a bit of work since; she's even currently cast as the lead in a TV program in production now. Even assuming the rumors are true, its hard to see how her life was "ruined" by some inappropriate relationship that ended a few years ago.
But how long was California dreams even on? I didn't watch a whole lot of TV, but I graduated in 1999 and my absolute favorite shows were party of five, Dawson's creek, and 90210. It seems to me that I would always have to tape 90210 because there was another show on at the same time that I'd watch... But I can't think of what it was.. .
ReplyDeleteBlossom?
ReplyDeleteDawson's Creek and 90210 were on at the same time. Kathlene Robertson played Clair on 90210 and is Canadian.
ReplyDeleteYou couldn't watch a show on one channel while recording a different channel though. You would have needed a separate TV to record the second show.
ReplyDeleteThese plus Roseanne.
ReplyDeleteCalifornia Dreams ran for 5 years, but I still don't think it was popular enough to warrant this blind...
ReplyDeleteBut since it was the creators of Saved by the Bell, maybe... I'm still leaning toward Prime Time rather than Saturday morning.
She still has a very active career though.
ReplyDeleteThis is a repeat of an earlier blind item from a year or so ago. Old news.
ReplyDeleteNo. That's not how they worked. You could watch one channel and set the VCR to record another channel.
ReplyDeleteMcCurdy was not involved with a producer at Nickelodeon. She was involved with a writer there, and supposedly had a short tryst with a producer of an animated flick that she was doing a voice over for while they were using studio space at Nick. Writer boyfriend made a stink about it and threatened the producer so he nearly got her fired from Nick the day Sam & Cat was to start shooting. By a miracle she survived the day only to walk off the set of the show a year later.
ReplyDeleteDawson's and 90210 shared the same slot. I also graduated in 99' and would watch DC but tape 90210. It seems like everyone on 90210 was a decent amount older than their characters for the most part except possibly Tori and Brian. I don't think there were any foreigners on Dawson's Creek and again, almost everyone was older than the characters they played and were at least of consenting age.
ReplyDeleteI would say Andrea Barber/Kimmy Gibbler of Full House but she is not foreign born (unless ENT threw that in to throw people off) and is now filming the new Full House but she did not do anything after Full House wrapped so fits in that sense.
