Mr. X Blind Item - 1980's
'80s: What two A-list actors, back when they were both almost A-list, almost got into a fistfight on the set of their debut film? Between takes, Actor #1 called Actor #2 a gay slur (the one that starts with an f and ends with a t) and Actor #2 went berserk and they both had to be separated by crew members because it was about to get violent. The two actors are on somewhat friendlier terms nowadays and they won't talk about this incident for obvious reasons.
Andrew McCarthy and John Cryer?
ReplyDeletePretty in Pink
Matt Dillion/tom cruise-the outsiders
ReplyDeletenvmnd ratings dont work
ReplyDeleteMel Gibson for the caller?
ReplyDeleteDillon can work for the caller and Cruise for an obvious reason, except for the ratings I guess.
ReplyDeleteOr Dillion/C Thomas Howell/Outsiders- I believe debut for both
ReplyDeleteTom Cruise Val Kilmer Top Gun

Mar 22, 2011 - Val Kilmer once parked my car for me in Las Vegas after he noticed i had one too many to drink and ..... Why do you care what, or who, Tom Cruise, or anyone, hates? ..... My cousin is dating his ex very good friend (very weird.
Dillion definitely for #1, though he was in in Little Darlings- this was his debut lead. It was Cruises 1st film I believe(and Howells)

May 5, 2011 - In the 80's, Val Kilmer was Tom Cruise's rival both on-screen and off. ... adrenaline fueled classic, eventually becoming friends after teaming up ...
Nicholas Cage and Jim Cary - Peggy Sue Got Married
ReplyDeleteThis works - except is Val Kilmer still A-? I've lost track of him.
ReplyDeleteI went through St Elmo's Fire, Breakfast Club...I would have guessed Kiefer Sutherland/Jason Patric (Lost Boys) except Jason Patric can't possibly be A anything, plus or minus. Same with Stand By Me - no one else is A anything.
Sorry TC did Taps first..but he was a tiny tiny role. This was closer to a big role for him.
ReplyDeleteIt's debut film- not someone with a ton of credits before they filmed it.Cruuise did 7/8 films (some big like Risky Business) before Top Gun for example---Nic Cage had about 7as well..and several of them big hits.
ReplyDeleteHow about Kiefer Sutherland/Will Wheaton (Stand By Me)...it's tough finding to then-A to Now-A actors who were in the same debut film without narrowing down the year. There were SO many buddy or ensemble films in the 80s
ReplyDeleteNot a debut for Cage
ReplyDeleteEmilio Estevez (not sure of rating)/ Rob Lowe -outsiders?
ReplyDeleteDon't think it's those 2- I agree it's the film though.Emilio and Rob have been good friends since Oustiders, actually- worked together though the years etc...
ReplyDeletethey were only ones who debuted in that movie
ReplyDeleteI am ignoring the "debut"part cause it makes no sense....how can an actor be almost A list if they were never in a film before? BUT it was Vals debut movie...
ReplyDeleteHey@ Elle:) Emilio did a film called Tex( again..tiny role). I was thinking debut /slash lead which is was for CTH,Dillion etc....but dunno.big cast!(and great film IMO...)
ReplyDeleteMaybe it's dillion/estevez in tex
ReplyDeleteThat is very interesting! Could easily be......
ReplyDeleteDillion came to mind100%, and again little darlings was a small film, small role- Texand then Ousiders were his first leads...And I don't think he and estevez are friends-- don't think he and anyone are friends lol.
I vote for Sean Penn and Tom Cruise in "Taps".
ReplyDeleteVery valid point and explains why it DOES NOT WORK. No one debuts at A!
ReplyDelete@Topper: Oooooh. The ratings fit for now, although I wonder how someone could be "almost A-list" in their debut film. Does that denote a quick breakout? If so, then Cruise and Penn both work, as both quickly broke out into the A-list. Nice thinking.
ReplyDeleteNot Cruise and Penn. They were friend even BFF. I think Cruise even was at Madonna/Penn wedding .They had a fallout in the middle of 90's
ReplyDelete1984, The Pope of Greenwich Village, Mickey Rourke and Eric Roberts. First thing that popped into my mind. Just a guess but decent yes?
ReplyDeleteI just checked. They both had credits before but nothing major, indies and stuff no one ever heard of.
ReplyDeleteThis screamed the Outsiders to me, too. Good guess with Cruise/Dillon.
ReplyDeleteSean Penn, noted super-calm intellectual genius, and ?
ReplyDeleteMaybe Nic Cage in Fast Times?
I don't think Kilmer is still A list but with Enty you never know. What happened to him is that he's a dick. He's such a dick that even legendary on-set-dick Marlon Brando gave him shit for it on "The Island of Dr. Moreau."
ReplyDeleteKilmer was keeping everyone waiting.... and waiting... and waiting while he gabbed on the phone. Finally Brando walked over to him, grabbed the phone, threw it, and told Kilmer that he was confusing the size of his paycheck with the size of his talent. Ouch.
He also had huge fights with Michael Douglas on a hunting in the jungle thing they did. Douglas hated him so much that he publicly bad-mouthed Kilmer on the press tour.
Whatsherface Whalley Kilmer married him and finally divorced him when his drug fueled evenings out got to be too much. He couldn't remember whether he'd bothered using condoms or not. With other guys.
Lots of drugs. Good actor though and he used to be gorgeous. It's too bad.
Tough blind.
ReplyDeleteI heard Gary Oldman said things like this to Keanu Reeves way back in the day, but I am not sure if it was Oldman's "debut".
Great guesses here!!
It was 'Dracula" and apparantly Winona Ryder and Monica Bellucci also wasn't fond of Gary. (just to clarify what I was referring to).
ReplyDeleteKind of sounds like Charlie Sheen, maybe. His debut was in Ferris B's Day Off but all of his scenes were with Jennifer Gray. He was in Lucas with Corey Haim but Haim was like 11 when they filmed that and Sheen would've had to have been mainlining a lot of tiger blood to call an 11 year old a F****t. What I'm trying to say is I Dunno. I just like posting comments.
ReplyDeleteJust wondering: Could the "almost A-list" for the "debut" be because it was their debut in a movie TOGETHER rather than their individual debuts on the big screen...as in maybe they went on afterwards to work on other movies, or a sequel, together?
ReplyDeleteSutherland punched a child?
ReplyDeleteKilmer/Cruise but "all of them" would ALSO fit. I remember that still was regularly a thing 15 yrs ago.
