Blind Items Revealed #3- Kindness

May 8, 2015

This foreign born former A list comic actor is probably a B now. He has been around forever and has been on so many shows and so many movies and is beloved by millions. He also has a very generous heart. If you have a charity event he will be there and work his butt off to raise money. All for free. At an event particularly close to his heart last week the goal had been to raise $1M. The event managed to raise about $800K. Our actor stepped up and wrote a check for the difference.

Some people are still old school and do charity events for free because they believe in what the group is undertaking. Hard to believe, I know.

Up until a few years ago, I had no idea that anyone was *paid* for charity appearances. I think if they're paid, it shouldn't be counted as charity work. It's just work.

I've working in non-profit most of my adult life, and I've never known anyone to pay a celebrity to show up to an event--ever. I question charities that do.

I have always agreed with Dorothy Gish: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8izFPtpBDOI

  6. Exactly. Charity is doing something & not getting anything out of it other than maybe feeling good about helping others. Getting paid for it has always seemed so sleazy to me.

  7. Any names you're willing to share that we might expect would ask for money that don't?

    I love Martin Short.

If Enty ever writes a bad blind item about him, I will hunt him down in whatever bar he's living in and...

Martin Short is ALWAYS funny...even when he's trying not to be funny.

Blind reveal doesn't surprise me at all, just makes me love him all the more.

He is absolutely fabulous as the Cat in the animated Cat in the Hat series, which teaches kids about science. Seriously wonderful and my favorite show to let the kids watch.

  13. For anyone that remembers Jackie Rogers Jr. on SCTV that was reason enough to love him. And now here's just one more! ?

I'm not a huge Martin Short fan. I like his characters, but his personality during interviews grates on me a bit.

Regardless, Good on Martin for his charitable contributions.

I saw him at the big Bob Costas charity deal he does for Cardinal Glennon's Children's Cancer Center this spring with Diana Ross. He was amazing, charming, wickedly talented...I've always loved him, but my raging crush on him renewed. He was really fantastic. He's lost NOTHING as he has aged--he still dances, sings, and his quips were lightning quick. Le sigh, I love him so.

By the by, Jon Hamm was there, too, and was brought up on stage for a planned Jiminy Glick bit. Some lady in front of me whispered to her companion that Jon Hamm was going to steal the scene, but Martin OWNED that stage.

Also, by the by, Jon Hamm was kind enough to take some photos from his seat at intermission (he, of course, was sitting in the local Millionaire's section, VIP, and it was likely only local millionaires even allowed there to ask for a photo in the first place) but he sat stone still in his chair for Diana Ross's whole set, even when the rest of the theatre (millionaire or otherwise) was on its feet and dancing.
