Today's Blind Items- More Old Hollywood
There were so many blinds and reveals yesterday, but still didn't get to them all, so here are a few more until the next Old Hollywood day.
#1 This murder victim of one of Hollywood's most notorious unsolved murders was no innocent starlet. She was a high priced call girl with her madam being the ex girlfriend of an infamous mobster. She also had several famous men as her clientele. In the weeks leading up to her death she slept with two Oscar winning/nominated triple threats (actor-director-writer), two B-list actors turned criminals, a newspaper editor turned nightclub owner, studio heads and the aforementioned mobster. He had her killed so she wouldn't talk and had a local surgeon who specialized in slicing up cadavers for research labs cut up the starlet's remains and had his goons dump them near the home of his ex girlfriend. Needless so say she wasn't scared and conspired with some of his enemies to have him killed.
#2 - What A-list character actor who started out on Broadway was also one of show biz' biggest racists? He had a rule that he never take a curtain call with a costar who was not white. Needless to say, this rubbed a lot of his colleagues the wrong way and he didn't make many allies. Did I mention he was also gay? He didn't come out during his long career but it was an open secret. He also carried his curtain call rule over to the bedroom.
#3 - This B-list actor who reached almost A-list level had an open secret about his parentage. He was biracial, his mother being a Pacific Islander and his father a white European, but was very light skinned that it was hard to tell. His studio's PR people at various times stated either he was full blooded Pacific Islander or full blooded European. Either way, they made him darken his skin with light brown makeup in almost every movie he was in to make him look more exotic. Basically it was another form of blackface.
1)Black dahlia
ReplyDelete2)Mickey Rooney
ReplyDelete3) Yul Brynner?
ReplyDeleteHer name was Elizabeth Short
ReplyDelete3)Rudolph Valentino maybe
ReplyDelete20 Danny Kaye?
ReplyDeleteAssume the Mobster was Capone
ReplyDeleteThe director actor/Cecille B DeMille and Hitchcock maybe
1) Bugsy Siegel, who died 6 months after Short.
ReplyDeleteWhat a surprise that I've studied the Black Dahlia case for 30 years.
ReplyDeleteIt's still fairly nebulous, so I most sincerely doubt Enty has any inside info that hasn't already been published several times.
The doctor in question is most likely George Hodel (again, published everywhere for over a decade, although other physicians have also been implicated) who was associated with the avante garde photog Man Ray. Staying with Man Ray at the time of the murder was Marcel Duchamp, another cutting edge photog whose images in "Étant donnés" are said to bear a striking/influential resemblance to the way the Dahlia's corpse was dismembered & displayed. The themes are also present in the Man Ray photo "Minotaure", which Hodel's son claims is the blueprint for the murder. Salvador Dali also hung with this crowd.
That concludes today's chapter of "Shit No One Cares About".
Yep!
ReplyDeleteAll that unnecessarily having been said - even if the Dahlia was a mobster hit, someone who participated did it for fun, not profit. No one who knws ever told the truth and we will never know. Unless Enty channels the Dahlia herself.
ReplyDeleteI do@kno-I am fascinated by it. Even sat through that atrocity of a film to see if they would put pieces together.
ReplyDeleteManRay-yes, thats it
Valentino was definitely Italian, Yul Brynner's son has said he was half Swiss, half Tartar, born in Russia.
ReplyDelete1. Victim: Elizabeth Short AKA The Black Dahlia. Mobster: Bugsy Segel Mobster Ex GF/Madam: Virginia Hill Doctor: George Hodel
ReplyDeleteOne very minor note about #2:
ReplyDeleteEverything else Enty says here is just as vile as Enty says it is... But I see nothing wrong with that last part: Anybody has a right to invite whoever they want into their bed. You get to have whatever sexual tastes you have.
.Jon Hall's biography looks interesting. He was raised in Tahiti. His studio was Universal and he played in lots of movies set in foreign lands.
ReplyDeleteAgreed, JAS. I don't think that "not attracted to" = racism.
ReplyDelete3. Tyrone Power or Roman Navarro?
ReplyDeleteOn its own, "not attracted to" does not equal racism.
ReplyDeleteWhen a proven racist of many years is the one spouting that attitude, it's racism.
@Kno,I found Steve Hodel's theory regarding his father compelling regarding Elizabeth Short and other women & are you kidding me @ kno, it's wild-it's one of the most famous unsolved mysteries of all time...summer nights with the dali & man ray,lee miller gang must've been a trip
ReplyDeleteHow is #2 Danny Kaye? He was on The Cosby Show a few times as the dentist, and he was supposedly a good friend of Bill Cosby's.
ReplyDeleteSteve Hodel seemed convincing... I was convinced. But you know he's gone on to say his father was also the Zodiac, right? He's really gone off the edge with that one.
ReplyDeletePlease tell me that number 2 is NOT Montey Woolley. He is one of my all time favorites, but fits with Broadway and semi-openly gay.
ReplyDeleteI am curious that enty reported that Elizabeth slept with two actor/director/writers, one being Orson Welle. Could the other be Charlie Chaplin or was there another dynamo around at the time? Also listed are 2 B actors turned criminals? Who could that be?
ReplyDeleteGeorge Raft maybe, he was known to have mob connections, he was denied entry into the United Kingdom due to his underworld associations.
ReplyDelete1) This is just another theory like there is already more than dozen of. Nobody solved it and never will. I really doubt that Enty knows the truth.
ReplyDeleteWhat about Natalie Wood for the first one? She was one boat and supposedly fell off and her body was never found. She was on a boat with two famous actors at the time...I can't remember right now who, though.
