Mr. X Blind Item #1-Old Hollywood

This actress was A-list for only a short period of time, then as soon as her popularity started to wane she left Hollywood for good. Partly because she got married, partly because the talkies were causing her endless stress, partly because of something else she was unaware of. Our star didn't know that from birth she suffered from a mild form of epilepsy, which was only discovered after she passed away. They didn't have accessible medication for epilepsy in those days, so she coped with alcohol to control her erratic behavior. Eventually, she had several nervous breakdowns and the first of several heart attacks due to these seizures and was briefly confined to a mental hospital after several suicide attempts. Very sad

  8. Think this is an actress who is lesser known or forgotten by the general public today.

    Frances Farmer?

She ended up in mental institutions.

Almost certainly Clara Bow. Active in transition to talkies, alcohol, suicide bids, hospitalization.

I agree with this - as far as not being as well known. Someone who had trouble with talkies wouldn't be on the tip of everyone's tongue. I still watch silents, but I don't know anyone else who does.
I LOVED Jessica Lange's Frances Farmer, btw. Farmer was still driving in 1942, so I think this is too early for her.
+1 Sandybrook, Mary Pickford, who left films for production when talkies arrived and slid into alcoholism. She was in her 30s at the advent of talkies.

  12. What hurt Clara Bow was her slutty reputation, she was engaged to multiple men at the same time. The rumor about her & the football team was around back then, not just in Hollywood Babylon.

Clara's secretary stole money, and Clara sued her. In the trial the secretary told stories of drugs, alcohol, bestiality. It got published in the news papers & ruined Clara's career.

Not Clara Bow. Louise Brooks who fled to Europe and dropped fast and was an alcoholic until she was rediscovered by film students later in the day.

Clara Bow..there's a documentary on her and it fits..she married the cowboy actor and moved to the desert but always had problems.

Clara Bow's mother suffered from epilepsy, nearly killed her own daughter once, so I'm going with Clara B.
