A first timer in the blinds today. Two years ago, none of you knew his name and two years from now, everyone will probably be asking what happened to him. He could have had it all. I think some part of him wanted to succeed at his chosen profession, but most of him got caught up in the fame and the idea of a quick buck with little to no work. Our celebrity is B+ list. A year ago he was closer to A list and he definitely had a list name recognition. A whirlwind of publicity followed by A listers reaching out to him and wanting to have dinner with him or a drink went to his head. All of that is just an illusion. It is fleeting. He didn’t know that. In order to keep any of that momentum going you need a great team and you need to stay on top of your game. He didn’t have a great team. They turned down the good and kept the bad and assumed offers would keep rolling in. Nope. They dried up along with all of that attention he had received earlier. The money was disappearing. So, he tired to mount a comeback, but it was going to be too hard. Too much drinking. Too much partying. He was cheating on his significant other like crazy. The significant other found out and has all kinds of juicy info. The last chance was gone. He threw it away to keep partying. If he is lucky he might get a job doing something related to his field. Maybe. He has burned a lot of bridges with a lot of people who were trying to help, but when he started star f**king he left them behind.

ReplyDeleteDerek did not NAIL IT. HE MUST TRY HARDER.
ReplyDeleteGiven ESPN's burning desire to be the social conscience of the sports world he will, no doubt, end up working as a football/social commentary analyst on ESPN.
ReplyDeleteDAMN ESPN/ABC/DISNEY for this. Within two years they have made the Arthur Ashe award into a joke! A award given to men and women of Courage, like Jimmy Valvano, Howard Cosell, Dean Smith and Pat Summitt among others, people who fought death and lost, but made a lasting legacy in sports and society.
ReplyDeleteWhen they awarded it to Nelson Mandella in 2009 for no other reason than getting the world cup in to South Aftica. It started a trend, mistaking Political Correctness for intestinal fortitude. The past two year were the most egregious of all. Especially this year that Jenner got the award over Lauren Hill from Mount St. Joe's. And you can thank PMK for that. She managed to get her ex the award so he could do that damned interview with Diana Saywer. Quid pro quo at it's most basic!
In short, DAMN ESPN
DAMN ABC!
DAMN DISNEY!
AND MOST OF ALL DAMN PMK!
I hope ESPN will find it's way back to people of real courage, but I ain't holding my breath.

ReplyDeleteI hope he gets the commentators position. Seeing the direction that ESPN is going in now. It actually might be timely and save his career.
who?
ReplyDeleteGoogle, you lazy shit.
ReplyDelete@doctor, yeah ESPN's Arthur Ashe Award used to be like a Nobel or Pulizter, innit, until they gave it to that totes uninspirational freedom fighter, political prisoner, equality activist and self sacrificing tool, Nelson Man-fecking-dela for bringing the globe's largest sporting event to a country that had undergone decades of apartheid and sporting boycotts...... You sir/madam are an undercover hater, racist homophobe much? p.s. I don't think you're a doctor.
