SNL Anniversary Show
Back in the day, this person was the most beloved person on the show. Every female cast member wanted to be her and every male cast member wanted to sleep with her. I had not thought about her in a long long time and last night her name popped up on the screen and I remember the first time I heard about her. She was an original employee of the show. From day one. I was having lunch with an actor who was for a brief moment in time A list. He had a string of great movies but there came a point in his life where something else happened. Life got in the way and he decided there were more important things in life then just making movies. That something else was the subject of a few minutes of our conversation at lunch and I asked him what that something else really loved about SNL and the first words that came to his mouth was the name of this woman who is the subject of our blind. From day one of the show, every single person who came into contact with her loved her. John Belushi would crash on her couch. She was the person you went to when Lorne was yelling at you. She was the one who could make everyone smile after three straight 24 hour coke furled days of working. She had a long running love affair with a couple of the male cast members but no one could get her to commit long term because she knew once they left the show they would leave her and she would still be there. She was an in the moment type person. The actor said he met her several times and even then when he saw her she had a way of capturing a room better than any actress or cast member or anyone else almost that he had ever met. Apparently she had a fling with this guy who was part of an A list foursome group that had no problems converting to three. That messed her up for a bit and she actually went to go work on a television show that spawned a permanent A lister in her first role and someone else on the show who will always be one of my buddies even if she did not have as big of a career. The show didn’t last long and she went back to SNL and has kept coming back when they needed her. I actually saw her a couple of years ago at some brunch and she is still stunning and still can capture a room and even though there was a party going on I think for her child’s birthday or college graduation or something, she was the center of attention. I guess that is why she got a bit of screen time last night when so many others did not.
Edie Baskin/Neil Young/Square Pegs/Sarah Jessica Parker/Jami Gertz
This reveal is confusing. It makes it sound like the "woman who could capture the room" was a regular on SNL but neither SJP or Gertz were.
ReplyDeleteAnd I just realized that Edie B. is the woman. NM.
ReplyDeleteGraphic designer blinds dont do it for me.
ReplyDeleteTo clarify her role, Edie was the person responsible for the distinctive photographs of the cast. Iconic, really.
ReplyDeleteAnd sounds like Enty's source on this was Rick Moranis, who deliberately walked away from stardom for the sake of his kids.
ReplyDelete@Hootspa, thanks for that info, the photographs were the best part of the show for me.
ReplyDeleteWho's Edie B?
ReplyDeleteGod damn it takes talent to write shit that hard to read and comprehend, WTF?
Except that Rick was never on SNL...
ReplyDeleteRick was indeed on SNL and he was my first guess as to who the brief A-lister was. Miss him like I miss Pauly Shore (being serious).
ReplyDeleteYou're right ---he hosted twice. The way it was written made it sound like his lunch companion was someone who'd spent more time there.
ReplyDeleteYou're right--- he did host two or three times. The way this was written, I thought it was a cast member doing the talking.
ReplyDeletesandybrook, you are the worst commenter on this website. If CDAN makes you so miserable that you have to comment something negative on literally every blind, find somewhere else to spend your time on the internet.
ReplyDeleteGo fuck yourself you worthless gutless piece of shit
ReplyDeleteYes, performers came and went, while Edie's hand-colored photos went on and on and on.
ReplyDeleteJust saw Jami Gertz the other day in Twister, good work in the thankless role of the requisite non-stormchasing girlfriend standing between Bill Paxton and Helen Hunt reconciling.

Former A list actor = Gene Wilder
"Something else happened" = Gilda Radner's fight with ovarian cancer; "something else" in the last sentence is Gilda Radner
RIP to both of them.
