One of the more annoying people last night was this B- list mostly movie actress who used to star in a franchise and now doesn't do a whole lot. She got drunk and as the night wore on kept telling people that she could have been invited to the show but chose not to be because she wanted to give others a chance to attend who might not get another chance. She also kept reminding people that she turned down the role that Jennifer Lawrence won for which is not at all the truth. Our actress begged for an audition but had no shot of the part or even reading for it. Everyone wanted her to run into Jennifer Lawrence but it didn't happen.

This is probably futile and I shouldn't bother but I guess I do.
You said in your post about Efron's career today "He has had chances headlining movies and has failed every single time." - that's just simply not true.
I'm not going to get into his talent because that's a lot based on opinion but if you look at his movies with wide releases (what you call mainstream), he had at least 2 movies which qualify as successes post HSM.
The "golden rule" is an actor opening his movie above $20m is a star and a success (obviously not blockbusters or movies which sell themselves; I'm talking about small or medium sized movies which are sold on the actor).
And Efron has done that with 17 Again (which opened to $23.7 and made $135m ww on a $20m budget) and with The Lucky One (which opened to $22.5 and made $100m ww on a $25m budget). In both movies he was bascially the only draw and main selling point. They are not huge hits but they are moderate hits and definitely not failures.
He had 2 underperformers as lead since HSM, Charlie St. Cloud and That Awkward Moment. But 50% ain't that bad. And his upcoming Neighbors is going to be a success by every indication - critically and commercially.
Indies are obviously different and while they haven't turned out to be successes at the box office, he was still headlining movies which got into Cannes competition and Venice competition (twice). And those are the most prestigious film festivals around. Those are not some random ass indies nobody has heard of but he was working with high profile directors and cast.
Despite not being in a franchise or making many mainstream movies in the last few years, he was still on Vulture's 100 most valuable movie stars list this October (and that took his addiction problems already into account). That's a list which takes a lot of actual research data into consideration and he was actually on that list unlike many of your declared A-list stars.
Anyway, I probably wasted my energy here and this isn't going to change your mind - or Efron's career. And yes, he has a lot of challenges ahead and his addiction will surely cause some problems but his career so far is not the failure you make him out to be.

For the past few months things have been getting worse. What was always a volatile relationship has turned more violent than volatile. Family members have tried to help this C list reality star offspring of this former A+ list entertainer(singer). From people I have spoken to who have been inside the home of our C lister, things are bad. There are drugs everywhere. There is cash everywhere. It is like watching Scarface. The significant other of our C lister thinks he is the next Scarface. The thing is he sucks at business. He just uses the money of our C lister to make it seem like he is making millions of dollars. Instead he is spending every cent she gets in the second it comes in and has made her sign all types of documents which have basically cost her most of her future income for the next few years. When he doesn't keep her drugged up he beats her. He has all kinds of recordings of her doing anything he can think of just to keep her in line. He says he will release it all if she tries to leave him. She is scared of him and loves him at the same time. When he is wasted the beatings can be rough and there have been shots fired more than once. Everyone knows he is going to end up killing her one night. She will try and leave and he won't like that and will shoot her and kill her. The family hopes she can escape, but she has no place to go that she would accept help from.

According to a flight attendant on the flight, the couple spoke briefly a few times. They had to walk to the other person because they kept separated by the entire space of the passenger cabin. Now, according to Radar, Redman has filed a motion to have his extradition reversed. In his motion he says there is no evidence linking him to the death and the claims made by Mexico regarding evidence and witnesses they have to support his conviction in the trial have either been lost or don't exist in the first place.
"The Mexican government claimed to possess forensic evidence that would prove Beresford-Redman’s guilt: conveniently all this alleged evidence was lost/destroyed while in Mexican custody. The Mexican government claimed to have witnesses who heard a fight and screams from the hotel room: but again when asked to produce those witnesses the Mexican government could not.· The Mexican government claimed to have blood evidence from the crime scene: however there was no blood ever found of Beresford-Redman or his wife. Even if I believe the guy didn't kill his wife, which I don't, he is in Mexican custody. They fought to get him extradited after he illegally crossed the border back to the US, so I doubt they are going to let him just go back to the US even if the judge rules in Redman's favor. I don't ever want anyone to go to jail for a crime they didn't commit but he did some crazy things right before they went on this vacation and her family is convinced he did it because of the actions he took before the vacation and just in their marriage. If, what he says is true, then I would hope that during his trial he would be found not guilty. I do think it is strange that he has been locked up for over two years with no trial and that needs to change. The judge in the case will be watched during the trial and if anything shady or sketchy happens then he can make the argument that eh should be freed.

So far, I haven't seen anything from the Goopster apologizing or anything about how it was taken out of context or anything else that would make her likable. She just doesn't understand that she really needs to keep quiet because she never makes a good public statement, which considering who her publicist is and all the people in her support system seems almost impossible to do, but she manages to tick people off, every time she opens her mouth.
Zac Efron - Career Over?
Will he end up being a whatever happened to kind of actor? I actually think he has a chance to have a career. Studios don't give up on people they have bankrolled to previously headline movies. It has to get really bad for that to happen. If he can somehow sort out his sobriety issues he has a chance. A good chance. He has people that buy tickets and will see him in almost anything. The one downside I see is that he is not the greatest actor in the world so his upside is limited. After his recent string of failures he was going to need to take some supporting roles and build back up to a headlining chance. What we haven't seen from him and what everyone loves is him being honest or talking about his issues. Does he have to? Nope. It is his life and he doesn't owe the public any explanations. But, rules are different when you are counting on those same people to support you and spend their money on you.
