Mr. X Blind Item #2 - Old Hollywood
Before she was famous, this future A++ list actress and Oscar winner/nominee was hoofing it up on Broadway in the chorus line of a second rate revue. She was also making ends meet by prostituting herself to shady men who lived near the apartment she was renting out. Her pimp was psychically and mentally abusive towards her and one night she had enough. She was determined to get rid of him for good, so she ran him over with her car... killing him. The landlady called the police and our future star spent the night in jail, but was eventually released after she told the cops that he was drunk and she had no other choice but to run him over (phew!) Fast forward a year and she has a new alias and she's under contract to the studio she would call home for a few decades. Magically, her arrest record disappeared after some money exchanged hands.
Joan Crawford
ReplyDeleteLauren Bacall
ReplyDeleteShirley McLaine?
ReplyDeleteLauren Bacall or Audrey Hepburn
ReplyDeleteI agree with Crawford.
ReplyDeleteI heard back in the day, Lucille Ball was a call girl.
ReplyDelete@ nobias- yes I heard that as well. Thought of her, but she was only nommed/won GG's no AA
ReplyDeleteJoan Crawford or Barbara Stanwyck
ReplyDeleteBarbara Stanwyck
ReplyDeleteI think Crawford, she was discovered first in a chorus line in Detroit, got to NYC.
ReplyDeleteStanwyck, had an older sister who was also a model/actress in NY looking out for her.
Bacall was still underage when she was on Broadway & living with her parents.
I think Joan Crawford too.
ReplyDeleteold hollywood blinds are soooo juicy. Those asshole stars were STAAAAHS
ReplyDeletePsychically abusive?
ReplyDeleteHe used his brain powers to abuse her?
Bacall was a star on Broadway at 17 & lived with her parents, got signed to the studio at 18 and married Bogie. She never really struggled.
ReplyDeleteStanwyck's older sister was already established Zeigfeld girl
Think this is Crawford, she clawed her way to the top. She was married breifly when in NYC, some biographies state he was her pimp. She doesn't talk about him or that marriage. Think it was him she killed.
So Joan Crawford was a stage name? Interesting!
ReplyDeleteJoan's real name was Lucy LeSueur.
