Mr. X Blind Item #10 - Old Hollywood
What Hollywood power couple both on and off-screen never officially confirmed their marriage, but there was that one time about a few years into their relationship that they both went to Mexico so he could get a quickie divorce from his wife [a devout Catholic like him] and they could get hitched? The female half of the couple never met his ex-wife until after the man died and eventually became good friends with both his kids.

ReplyDeleteThe A+ guy changed his mind about the divorce he wanted because his religion frowned on this. But they remained a A + couple and lived together but never married even though many thought they were married.

ReplyDeleteI think this is Sophia Loren and Carlo Ponti, Sr. She had a bio come out this year, and I remember when she was on the plane to go to Mexico with Carlo and Cary Grant had sent her yellow roses, and it pissed Carlo off...that's my guess.

ReplyDeleteTracy never divorced his wife, because he was such a devout Catholic as was his wife. (The same devout Catholic that caroused with multiple women and spent many weekends locked up in a hotel bathroom with many bottles of booze.)
ReplyDeleteTracy's wife wouldn't give him a divorce. When he died, Kate was barred from the funeral by said wife. Barely knew his kids, if at all. Not them.
ReplyDeleteLoren and Ponti--he was one of her johns. Mama set them up because he was rich, and Loren was not.
It was known to industry insiders that Spencer Tracy was deeply closeted. His gay side only came out when he was drunk. In fact, this was the main reason he drank--he couldn't accept himself as gay. Hepburn was widely known to be a lesbian. Their "relationship" which lasted more than 20 years was a complete fraud. He was gay, she was a lesbian. It worked for both of them. So this blind item is definitely not about Hepburn and Tracy.
