  8. 4 times in the last year alone. Don't even get me started.

  9. @Gayeld - So, do you live "lighter"? Do you tend to accumulate less clutter because you might have to move it or to you accumulate more to compensate?
    Or none of the above?

    1. LOL! Not really. Most of the time it wasn't really pre-planned. My parents sold their house, but the trailer hadn't been delivered to the acreage they'd bought and were going to build their "dream house" on some day, so we lived in a really cheap rental (there were frogs in the bathtub) until it was ready (hence the three first grades.) My step-father got promoted, we moved to Hanford, he got fired, we moved to Atwater.... In college we moved around town looking for an affordable place, then moved looking for a safer place.

I've owned my house 17 years, but had to move out and back in for remodeling. Aside from that, I am so totally done. But I still have mad packing skills.

  10. Since I was born? Or in the last 20 years? Never counted.

  11. About 15 times, maybe a couple more. I'm thinking I'm gonna stay down here in VA or the area, so lovely. I just cannot imagine living in MI or NY again.

    I tend to live lighter.

  15. Way too many times. 10 were just in college alone. Actually, it was in one of my psych classes where I learned moving is ranked in the top 5 of life's most stressful events. Right up there with death of a loved one and divorce. I can't remember the other two off hand, but I'm guessing they were having a baby and losing a job.

  16. Didn't he already ask this in the last few months or so? Anyway, for me it's...less than ten. (I'm too tired to count, but it hasn't been very many.)

  17. I'm 51, and I think I've counted 36 addresses, give or take a couple. Most of these were as an adult. For some reason, I used to think I had to move every time my lease was up. So really, it's like 30 moves between the ages of 18 and 47.

Current address is that of my husband of 4 years, and he's lived here for 25 years. We are so different! But I'll probably be here for the next 40+.

  20. Five. A bit boring. My parents house to marriage apartment to first house to second house to this house. Altho.... Today just talking about moving to florida!

  21. I've lived in the same house for 30 years. I moved to San Diego twice but always came home. I moved a couple of times during the marriages years ago. Packing means cleaning and I try to avoid that.

  22. Thanks for the heads up, TrainRides. I haven't checked that email acct in a couple weeks.

  23. 25+ times between birth and age 30. Not a military brat either. :(

  24. Too many to count.

  25. 24-25 times.

Taking a break from unpacking right now.

    Moving is exhausting.

  26. As someone who hasn't moved in 35yrs, I would suggest getting a dumpster every 15yrs or so. If it hasn't been touched since the last dumpster, then it goes in the dumpster, unless it is a family heirloom.

  27. I think 11 times. Never when I was a kid - my mom just sold the house I grew up in. We've lived here 13 years, which is the longest we've lived anywhere. And I'm not moving again until it's time to go into a home. LOL

    ReplyDelete
  28. 25 times over 3 states and 26 years. This is the longest I have lived anywhere. And like Gayeld, I pack lighter, save less and I am known in my circles as "The Moving Nazi".

Do NOT call my ass to your apt to help you "move" and let me see shit in your dish drainer, in closets, etc and not in boxes. You asked me to help you move not pack. But if I do be prepared. You WILL say buh BYE to loads of shit (that you will never miss)...That teeny little measuring cup for Mr.Iron that's 15 yrs old you just may use one day? Oh hail NAW! My tossing it into the trash is the sound of the window of opportunity closing..

People truly move out of my way when I kick into gear but I get your shit done. And I never toss items of sentimental value. I know the difference. I will pack your bathroom and financial stuff so you don't freak about where it is or how you can get at it immediately. That's what people most fear.

Seriously thought about opening my own business doing it. I am that good.

    1. LOL @ Sherry. If you lived in Minneapolis I would have thought you were one of my friends incognito. She's totally like you.

  29. 6 times. I fucking hate moving.

  30. I moved for the first time almost a month ago. My parents are going to sell the only house I've ever lived in so I thought I'd move out on my own terms and make peace before they sell.
