if your asking who my fav designers are----Marc Jacobs and John Varvatos....not that I can afford much--Club Monaco is just as good for guys and a lot cheaper
@teresa! Welcome back my glam sista newlywed! Congrats and I eventually want the wedding deets! But for now...I demand details on the dress!!!! Mwah!!!!! XoXo
I would have said Dolce and Gabbana 20 years ago, still wear their perfumes though, but now I would say Giorgio Armani. Armani does simple and classic, always had, always will.
Armani clothes are beautiful. Just the cut & feeling the fabric, it's fabulous. I bought an Armani leather coat a few months ago. It's my pride & joy. Very gorgeous. Leather trench. Very soft. I've just got to get the guts to wear it outside!
Great question about the perfume. It's Armani 'she' for me, followed by Mania. D&G the one. Wear my perfume everyday, no matter what I'm doing. Chanel no 5 forever. It's very special.
My dress was really simple, floaty and backless. I loved it. It's too bad that you only wear your dress for that one night b/c I would totally rock it again given the chance :D
I honestly couldn't care less about any of them. You want to impress me? Show me someone who can make clothes that look good on people, instead of just on hangers.
Derek at 6' and 160# you are not a fat ass...I'm 5'9" and weigh more than you!
But in the olden days when I was 120# I used to go to Azzedine Alaia and try on dresses. Everyone though I was a model because models can actually look quite plain, the designers need a blank canvas. It was so much fun but no way could I ever buy any of it..
I love Tom Ford and CK and Elie Saab dresses are gorgeous if you're curvy.. Sadly I am built like a boy.
I love Tadashi Shoji and have several of his gowns. I also have several Ralph Lauren gowns and a bunch of his dresses because the fit my fat ass so well. I need a new gown every year for the Marine Corps Ball or I wouldn't own so many gowns.
That being said, I would choose Coco Chanel, so very classy.
When I was in my 20s I had 4 Pucci outfits, but once I had kids i never had a flat stomach again...1st kid 9lbs, 2nd kid 10lbs 2oz. I'm 5'2". Silk jersey isn't forgiving. Now, in my 60s I love Carolina Herrera. There is an outlet in Woodbury Commons that used to sell the same garments that were sold in Saks and Neiman Marcus for 80% off. I bought several pieces and the fabrics were unbelievable and the strapless dresses have bras built in that hook up before you zip up. The last time I went there, 3 or 4 years ago, they had no designer garments, but had instead a line called CH which looked like it was made just for outlets or Walmart. Each and every Oscar de la Renta garment is a magnificent piece of artistry. His color pallet and his fabrics are perfection, but my lifestyle is more informal. Every fashion week I view his collection on Getty and it is pure joy. Now, my favorite designers are L.L.Bean and Eileen Fisher...comfort.
@Blasie I hear you! Comfort has become paramount to me too. I also live in the sticks and have to order clothes online. My go to's are Ann Taylor, Loft, Ralph Lauren and J.Jill. I find that their sizing is consistent. If I lived in a cold weather state again, L L Bean would definitely be a go to. Growing up I loved their flannel lined jeans and duck boots. We would make a yearly pilgrimage to Freeport to shop in the middle of the night night.
Actually my mom dressed me when I was growing up (as in, she sewed all my clothes) and I was mortified to be walking around in couture clothes as a young teenager. Little did I know how lucky I was back then.
When I was 15 she made me this suit that I dream about to this day, and wish I had kept it though there's no way it would fit me today.
I wore it with a pair of high heel leather ankle booties.
My mom dressed me up in that and we went downtown, she in her own couture suit that she had made for herself (she looked like a cross between Grace Kelly and Ingrid Bergman, she was so beautiful).
I remember that day still ... and how embarrassed I was because everybody was staring at us.
Don't DO that to your 15 year old daughters, they will not appreciate it until maybe 30 years later...
Alexander McQueen (sorry Oscar)

ReplyDeleteWhen I was 15 she made me this suit that I dream about to this day, and wish I had kept it though there's no way it would fit me today.
Imagine a Chanel-style suit with a short jacket and a mini skirt, made of green bouclé wool in a plaid shot through with skinny pink, aqua, orange and yellow stripes. With self-buttons rimmed in gold and a nehru style collar. The jacket was lined in hot pink raw silk.
I wore it with a pair of high heel leather ankle booties.
My mom dressed me up in that and we went downtown, she in her own couture suit that she had made for herself (she looked like a cross between Grace Kelly and Ingrid Bergman, she was so beautiful).

pb.. any clue who your mom was?? please??
ReplyDelete@sugarbread, she wasn't famous. Not even locally.
ReplyDeleteFirst Choice: Alexander McQueen
ReplyDeleteSecond Choice: Versace
but they would both have to be alive and dressing only me.
