We're in a new place too, but I take my little one to another neighborhood to trick-or-treat.
As for the candy, I'll pass some out if we're home early enough, but I have no problem telling lazy teens who don't even bother to dress up to get off my porch.
Depends on the night, weekend night get more volume and the weather of course
varied from 20 - 80 over the years, and cut off is usually around 8pm which is when it totally tapers off unless I run out earlier only happened once, or if I got a lot of stuff left over I'll hang on until 9 pm
I have only had one slow year. We try to keep count every year. One year we got about 300 kids. Pretty much it starts at about 5:30 (youngest and first timers). Found out it goes till about 8:30. Only ran out once. Not a whole lot leftover usually.
I live in a subdivision, so you can do pretty well in a short amount of time. Have a couple of neighbors who do not believe in Halloween. I go all out.
I have steady stream. I put loads of prewrapped candy in giant bowl and sign that says help yourself. After thats gone, they on their own. So im not answering the door 40 x a night!
None, I live in a building with 400 apartments…we have a list for those who want Trick or Treaters at the door… What I do is leave a very large shopper's bag full of candy for the kids at the doorman's station and they help themselves… The doorbell makes my dogs wild…
The first year we lived at our house, we had over 300 kids show up. Totally not prepared for that! The second year I had two grocery bags filled to the top with mini candy bars and still ran out. I have since stopped handing out candy. It was just too much. They actually come in to our neighborhood with cars full of kids and line the streets. We live in a subdivision and it's easy to go house to house and get tons of treats in a short amount of time.
We used to hand out candy all of the time! We had loads of kids. Now we get teenagers with no costumes and adults saying they're collecting "for their poor child that's in the hospital!" Now it's lights out and drinks for me and the mister!
Zero...I live in a commercial district in the city and no one knows there's an apt and no one would dare visit at Blanc Debris..We're a trick or treater free zone in both places.
I am the only person for several miles around that decorates for Halloween. It always makes me feel good when the children thank me for "having Halloween".... :D
I get a ton of people. I live the little ones, but then teens and even adults piss me off. I even had somebody's grandparents dressed up like robbers and the man had a you gun and said "stick em up" when I answered the door. Ugh. My hooligans keep ringing the doorbell until maybe 9:30-10.
My town always has Halloween on the Saturday before the 31st.
We're having three Halloween parties the Saturday before. One, from 11-1 for the five-year olds. Two, from 2-5 for the 10-year olds. Then we throw a bunch of fresh sodas and glow sticks in the backyard for the 13-year olds from 5 until the guy comes to pick-up the bounce house.
We usually get around 40-50. And it's dark early here in northern Alberta (although not as early as it was before they changed the date ending Daylight Savings Time), and dark equals cold so the kiddos are usually finished by 7:30 or 8. At 8:30 the teens come out, and they get the leftovers.
There's a colour coding you do around these parts - if you have orange and black balloons (or fancier decorations), then you're open for Halloween business. I think it's good, people can play if they want and not I'd they don't.
The idea of teenagers showing up demanding lollies without dressing is sucky, but parents showing without children "collecting for little Johnny who's in the hospital" is just offensive (per @Tillie's comment)! Who does that!?!! They need a photo shaming Instagram for that rubbish!
My town lists trick or treat hours from 5-8pm. We all shut the front light off at 8 to discourage hooligans from continuing. I wrestle my kids into bed then too.
I think we go thru about 500 pieces of candy. It's crazy. Our village has it the Thursday before Halloween, always, and we get kids from all over the county I swear... Don't really mind, tho, it's my favorite holiday and I like seeing all the costumes. Kids and adults. Some really go all out and it's awesome.
Zero. We go out to dinner every Halloween. I've never been big on Halloween and now that the kids are grown, I am highly non-paticipitory on most holidays except Thanksgiving. My birthday was a month ago, my husband hasn't gotten me a present yet and it's no big deal.Sunday was my oldest son's birthday, I made pot roast with all the fixings and a homemade cake. I still make a big deal out of the kid's birthdays at 27, 27 and 24. The girl will be 28 in December. Yes, Catholic twins!
I buy lollies and little toys every year with the hope we get trick or treated. However being aussies it never happens. So hubby eats sweets and party trinkets go to nephews and nieces.
Bee Haven - don't know where you're at, but maybe the colour coding is around your 'ville too? Try putting orange and black balloons out at your letter box, and see what happens.
Mine, all mine! I ain't sharing!
ReplyDeleteI live in a building, no trick or treaters allowed! Candy all mine! My candy! MIne! Mine! Mine!
ReplyDeleteNone! I live in Brentwood and am always prepared but have candy for a year later.
ReplyDelete100, probably. 9pm or when we run out of candy.
ReplyDeleteI don't know yet because we have a new apartment. I will probably dress like Snow White and make the kiddos happy for a few hours.
ReplyDeleteCandy runs freely until we run out or until my boyfriend gets grumpy pants and decides to light up.
Ha! Mine too!
DeleteWe're in a new place too, but I take my little one to another neighborhood to trick-or-treat.

Uh oh kiddos! Watch out for @bellaluna!!! LOL
DeleteJust everyone please promise me that these two little guys get their candy and LadyH will be happy :)
Hahahaha! You never cease to make me laugh, LadyH! :D
DeleteWe make the lazy teens dance for our amusement if they want candy. No dancing, no candy.
DeleteSince I'm usually working, none.
ReplyDeleteAlthough I am 30 I live in a condo community made up mostly of 80 year olds. No one answers their door for trick or treaters so we never get any.
ReplyDeleteIt really depends on the year and/or weather. Some years we have 50+, and a year or three ago we had zero trick-or-treaters. Cut off is around 8pm.
ReplyDeleteNone because I dont use the signals the town wants you to use to.let kids know you are doing Halloween (lighted patio, porch.)

If I just buy candy I like, I get a lot..if I buy crap candy, very few..Halloween hex.
ReplyDeleteOne. Sad. Candy is all mine

300 and 8:00
ReplyDeleteWe had around 30 last year, but will probably have more this year since it's a Friday night. Cut-off time is 9, 9:30.

We always have about 100 or so. I am wondering if there will be more or less this year because Halloween is on a Friday.
ReplyDeleteCatsup- hope it rains!! Lol
DeleteHad close to 100 one year. We turn off the outdoor lights now. It get exhausting.

ReplyDelete@AuntLiddy - a rain save would be great..but, then, I'd have all the candy, something my ass doesn't need.
ReplyDeleteCatsup- my trick is to buy good stuff- but stuff i dont like and wont eat!! Its a lifesaver!
DeleteZero...I live in a commercial district in the city and no one knows there's an apt and no one would dare visit at Blanc Debris..We're a trick or treater free zone in both places.
ReplyDeleteI normally get about 50+ kids (in groups) because I give out good sweets and I keep going till its all gone (I don't want to have to eat it)
ReplyDeleteNone, that pagan thing ain't customary here. And I live in a building which doesn't open to beggars, therefore customs aren't the only issue with it.

ReplyDeleteNo idea, I'm too busy pimping my kids around the neighborhood for candy. "NO, YOU CAN'T GO HOME NOW! THERE'S A LIGHT STILL ON SIX BLOCKS AWAY!"
ReplyDeleteHi all! Good to see you.

ReplyDeleteI did actually hear about that Alita - but completely forgot. So thanks! I get all excited and buy all this stuff. Cheers!
Delete:-)
No trick or treaters in West Hollywood!
