Her mother said there were no drugs involved in the death of Skye Bartusiak who died this past summer. Her mother said the former "Patriot" actress died from choking after suffering a seizure which she had suffered from most of her life due to epilepsy. The report from the Harris County Coroner in Texas says that Skye died of an accidental overdose after she mixed several different kinds of heavy duty prescription pills and huffing, presumably from spray paint cans. Sky was found by her boyfriend and paramedics spent 45 minutes trying to bring her back to life. Her mother said Skye never drank or did drugs. I don't know if it was a case of her mother really not knowing or if she just didn't want people to think her daughter was a drug addict. I don't have any problem with the latter, and think she should remember her daughter and try and have people remember her daughter for something other than dying of an overdose.
This is so sad. Huffing is the wooooorst but she also had Oxy in her system I believe. Be careful folks. Addiction kills and it does not discriminate. RIP Skye
ReplyDeleteWell that's depressing....what a pretty young lady with a dirty, ugly habit....
ReplyDeleteI liked her in Love Comes Softly. Ha, I know sappy movie but she was great in it
ReplyDeleteAnd why would huffing sound like a good idea to anyone let alone someone with epilepsy. Death wish.
ReplyDeleteI've never heard of huffing...but why??? The smell of spray paint cans is gross.
ReplyDeleteI disagree with hiding addiction and fatal outcomes. Consider it a public service. Turning a blind eye to addiction isn't fruitful.
ReplyDeleteThat said, her family has a right to privacy. They will do as they wish. I disagree but I respect their desire.
What a pretty girl....so sorry she fell prey to the lies drugs tell.
ReplyDeleteWell I guess it beats sniffing glue or drinking anti freeze. Popular with some teens with much less financial resources.
ReplyDeleteI remember as well that the pharmacies were only selling antihistamines behind the counter because something about snorting crushed antihistamines gives you a high?
I guess the ultimate question is why do so many human beings often human beings who are not living in misery not compared to billions of people living in absolute abject poverty feel the need to get high all the time to deal with their ever so hard lives, boo hoo, I wanted an iPhone 6 and Daddy said no! and find ever more dangerous ways to do it.
I used to work at a pharmacy. We had to card people for cough syrup, since kids were abusing it to get high. No one under 18 could purchase it.
DeleteThe reason that Sudafed and other over the counter decongestants got moved to the pharmacy is because they are the active ingredient in meth. The Feds put a daily limit on the amount an individual can purchase, and photo ID is required, along with a log that requires the purchaser's signature.
@bellaluna: those federal restrictions had a lot of inadvertent consequences. A newer cartel comprised of Christian fundamentalist narcotraffickers rose after the 2005 crackdowns to fill in a void in the US meth market. They specialize predominately in meth, Here is a good article on LFM.
DeleteMexico has started some similar crackdowns which has left other countries like Honduras in a lot of trouble because precursors for manufacturing meth are much more available there now. Lots of increased LFM, Sinaloa and Zetas presence there now. It's crazy how we think stupid regulations like that work. Meth is popular as fuck and all they've accomplished is making it hard for law abiding citizens to get their fucking cold flu relief!
Sentences I didn't expect to read today (or ever):
Delete"... newer cartel comprised of Christian fundamentalist narcotraffickers ..."
A font of information as always, Lady H!
@ALITTTTTTTAAAAAA aka Alitatotle!!!!!!!
DeleteI know right? LFM holds prayers before every meeting, but they're apparently fine with decapitation being their calling card. You cannot make that kind of shit up. LFM has completely cornered the Southern California meth market in recent years and are now the #1 meth providers in this region, among countless others.
I'm so happy to see your name pop up again! How have you been darlin?!
HeisenHugs
Lady Heisenberg :)))
DeleteGood to see you, and good to be seen! I'm great - I visited America, LA, Venice, then OC. Work thing, but took some extra time. Got back a couple weeks ago. I was really disappointed because many of my anticipated stereotypes weren't apparent. Tu wit - I found LA drivers quite courteous. I wasn't ever served an insanely large meal (probably because of the types of places I visited though - all organic or healthy choice places). Umm people were friendly without being stepford or ungenuine. I got through Homeland Security really fast and without being asked tricky questions about my intent - debarked the plane and was through within ten minutes. Very few people drove monster vehicles; indeed small European and Japanese cars were clearly popular. I did see streets with footpaths though. In no way do I hunt minutiae, huh ;)
I did find out how you crazy freaks do street address building numbering. This is not logical! The mathematician in me rejects this abstract methodology. And I thought I saw Bieber, but it was just some twat (my running joke was thinking I saw Bieber, because I really wanted to punch him while there).
But if I'd be really lucky I would have made Lilo's list. I almost stumped up for Chateau Marmont, but in the end decided that even in an ironic hipster way I couldn't justify it.
Life treating you well, my lady of principled uncertainty?
That is amazing @Alita! I'm glad us Yankee Doodles weren't too big of an embarrassment to the world. Then again you were in hippie/hipster central. Everyone here seems to be on some alternative diet and we are a pretty chill folk. It's also too expensive to afford gas guzzlers anymore in areas that are sprawled out and have little to no public transportation.
DeleteI commute between SD/OC/LA very very frequently and I would have to say that our worst drivers locally hail from Irvine. Seriously, I don't know why though.
Everything good over here but not as good as you! Glad to hear all is well. You should say hello more often now, ya hear?!?
I went to Irvine. Probably drove right by you ;)
DeleteOne of my colleagues reckons that people were courteous with my driving because they're so used to bad drivers - that doesn't even count as a backhanded compliment, eh ;) I drove - didn't know right turns on red were legal - but nobody beeped me at all.
I dropped in here once briefly when I was sitting in a café on Venice, and again on Saturday night last weekend. There was some kerfuffle that I didn't read through but my name was mentioned, oh yeah (even if only mentioned as someone that is not liked by someone else - whatever, it's all publicity ;). Today has awful weather and I'm at a loose end as my plans were canceled. So I dropped in. I stopped CDaNing after the July reveals day (not because of them though), so maybe it's time I got my celebrity gossip back on occasionally.
There's a bunch of people I recall that appear to not be here now. I assume there was some epic CDaN meltdown at some point. It reminds me of the lame Matrix explanation (and BSG explanation) - 'all this has happened before, and it will all happen again.' You recall that I'm a nerd, right ;)
Stay cool, LadyH. It's always a pleasure chatting :)
Inhalants are cheap, fast/easy to score, legal to possess in many cases and finally- they're very effective. They also fry your brain out worse than anything I've ever seen. I've had many students over the years that just destroyed any chance for normal neurological functioning due to huffing.
ReplyDeleteThese include household aerosols, amyl nitrite, butyl nitrite, nitrous oxide etc Spray paint cans have become especially popular around these parts and the bangers even discovered that gold and silver colors tend to have the highest concentrations of toluene, which produces the high. Those tend to be the most abused paints.
Wow LadyH. That's so sad.
ReplyDeleteTina antihistamines can be used in the production of Meth.
ReplyDeleteIn our county, you cannot purchase spray paint without showing ID. That's happened to us twice at Lowe's.
ReplyDeleteSort of OT, I am always annoyed by the "enlarged heart" cause of death. My husband's best friend, who was a recovering heroine addict, overdosed on methadone a few months before our wedding (he was supposed to be the Best Man). But the official COD was "enlarged heart." Maybe it gives the family peace; I think it tends to hide the true cause, which could be used as a message.
I remember Chris Penn (Sean's brother) having the same COD listed.
She's walking on sunshine

ReplyDeleteI certainly hope this young lady's mother is simply ignorant of the truth about her daughter, rather than willfully ignoring it. And I agree with @QueenAnne - it's a public service to talk about it. (It's also deeply dysfunctional to lie about it.)

ReplyDeleteThis might get me in trouble but fuck it, one of the biggest suppliers of meth for the entire country is located in a small, I mean TINY town in Oklahoma. The cops look the other way since their entire police force is out just giving tickets to people with Arkansas license plates. I swear it seems half of their population is making it. You can't drive by houses there on Tuesday (garbage day) without seeing bottles for the chemicals and boxes of medicine they use in production overflowing from almost every garbage can.
ReplyDeleteThat's not surprising at all to me @Rowdy but very interesting. Makes a lot of sense actually. There are only four "official" and mutually recognized factions of Mexican Mafia but the Oklahoma faction has recently been growing a lot. Many experts believe Oklahoma will soon gain official recognition by the other four factions.
DeleteChroming is such an epidemic here with young people. I've had clients who we've had to remove hair spray, paint, petrol, air freshener, deodorant, soda stream canisters from.
ReplyDelete@Lady H, the scary part is the small town is seriously less than two blocks from where I live. We also have neighbors four houses down that have the same type of garbage and two windows, with trees in front of the windows mind you, covered in aluminum, so there's no sun really getting into the room because of the trees and they only seem to leave the house at night and only very rarely. Pretty much a red flag.
ReplyDeleteThat's crazy, Rowdy. Even if local law enforcement is intentionally blind, wouldn't your feds step in? If it's as blatant as you say, isn't there a next level of action? I thought America felt really strongly about that sort of thing.
ReplyDeleteHeisen San, does that mean the Oklahoma gang is Mexican in origin? Mexican cartels have been infiltrating over here and those people are scary as hell. I think the government is going ask out to try and stop it happening.

ReplyDelete(Sorry i keep deleting things, i just don't want to post too much info since this is the type of thing that can get people killed, not worried about myself but I have family that well, you get the idea. Thank God for Conceal Carry lol)
ReplyDelete@Alita Don't kid yourself, the feds don't care as long as they get their cut and why would they actually try to stop any of the gangs and producers when that would mean that they would get less money in the budget. Government is just another word for money.
The Oklahoma connection is that they are the ones that supply the Mexican gangs with the stuff. The people making it are usually white, high school educated (about 50/50 split on graduation) and drive beat up old clunkers as to not give away that they have money. You'd be surprised at the number of homes I've been in that look like a shack on the outside but the inside is like a mansion. Plasma TV's in every room, hi quality sound systems, computers and brand new gaming systems in every room and a veritable arsenal they take pride in showing off.
Rumor has it that it was an accelerant used in refrigeration. My husband dated a gal until he found out she huffed Freon. I guess it's something to do in Texas.
ReplyDeleteI read something like this and all the comments (about meth etc.) and I'm still amazed as hell that pot STILL is illegal almost everywhere. When I lived in Okla. City years ago, huffing was rampant. A good friend of ours did that shit when he was in high school. I didn't know him back then (I was living in Colo.) but as an adult he's the twitchiest most ADD motherfucker I've met. I'm sure the huffing is to blame for most if not all of it. . It's a super cheap super easy super dangerous high. Personally I'd much rather my kid smoke a little weed rather than resort to huffing or even alcohol.
ReplyDeleteOkay I hadn't read all the comments to the bottom. I just read Rowdy's comments on Oklahoma and that does not surprise me at all. I haven't lived there in over a decade but when I was there the quantity of drugs readily available was astonishing. At one point it seemed like half the people we knew were doing heroin (was married to a musician back then). Oh yeah and apparently huffing gasoline was a big thing there for awhile. That and Scotchbrite. That meth scene sounds terrible. I've got a few guesses as to which towns it would be too. Scary shit.
ReplyDeleteHere is what I know based off of testimony by a defected member and some DOJ guys. Several years ago, the California faction- which is made up predominately of Mexican Americans- sanctioned some of their top guys to go to Oklahoma and build up the organization and drug trafficking there. They specialize in meth and heroin, mainly. From there, they started the unofficial Eme chapter also known as Las Oklas. It is the only unofficial faction which uses the Black Hand tattoo (allegedly with the blessing of the official four factions) and they are predicted to become the fifth
