There are some of you reading this who don't know and don't care who Lisa Robertson is, but she has been on QVC for 20 years and has been watched by far more people than have ever watched the Kardashians or lots of network shows. Millions of people have watched Lisa Robertson host on the channel and I think most people thought she would keep hosting forever. This weekend, Lisa announced that she is leaving the network but hasn't told anyone what she is planning on doing. For those of you who read me frequently, my number one piece of advice to all celebrities is to never leave a show or gig that is high paying until you get fired or the show ends. Yes, you might think that you are a huge star or there is more money to be made elsewhere, but it is too hard to get a good, high paying job and you should stick with it, until you are not allowed to go back. At this point, maybe Lisa realized what Mike Rowe realized a long time ago. There is only so often you can get excited about a product and to do it five days a week for twenty years, might just be long enough. I hope she has a job that is going to make her some money and that she is not going to be like a soap star who walks away, but a few years later decides that maybe the show was the better thing out there.
No Lisa, please don't leave!!! You're the best part of QVC.
ReplyDeleteMaybe she actually does have something planned or maybe she realized what a dead end QVC is. Best of luck to her.
ReplyDeleteShe's big on the cosmetic brands isn't she…maybe she got a great offer
ReplyDeleteWow! Enty is right. She's 49, almost 50. What is she going to do? I hope for her sake she has a better job lined up.
ReplyDelete+1
DeleteMaybe she just wants to quit working completely. I'd hope that after all this she's been able to save up enough money to retire.
ReplyDeleteAlso, it's entirely possible that QVC is letting her "quit" so that they can replace her with someone younger.
Don't be shocked if she comes back as a rep for
ReplyDeleteEstee Lauder's lines
@sherry my father worked for QVC for 25 years. put me through college and law school, as well as my brothers, and he retired comfortably at 53 years old. I'd hardly call QVC a dead end.
ReplyDeleteJeez, Enty, lighten the fuck up! How's about just wishing her well on the next stage of this journey we call life?
ReplyDeleteShe's the best host on QVC. Sad to see her go.
ReplyDeletePain in the ass and a snob in real life. Dated a family friend for years
ReplyDelete@Boozie, I think Sherry meant that QVC is a dead end for someone trying to be famous.
ReplyDeleteIf Lisa is leaving to peddle some overpriced cosmetics or jewelry line, please remember that paying the fees of "celebrity" spokespersons are part of the reason the products are overpriced to begin with. You can find most cosmetic products for a lot cheaper than QVC, if you didn't know.
ReplyDeleteShe's actually been stalked pretty hard... http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2605126/EXCLUSIVE-If-theres-sound-night-I-lay-awake-wondering-QVC-queen-Lisa-Robertson-lives-fear-having-FOUR-stalkers-one-bragging-got-close-movie-smell-popcorn-eating.html
ReplyDeleteThank you Karen..That is EXACTLY what I meant. As a performer it won't get you to your next gig necessarily. Mike Roe had to create his own "next thing.
ReplyDeleteThey were pushing her show off the main channel and prime time to the smaller channels. At one time I thought she was really hawt!
ReplyDeleteI have a co-worker who watches nothing but QVC in her down time. I have never understood the appeal of constant viewing.
ReplyDeleteMaybe she sees Lori's success on Shark Tank and wants to achieve something in a broader market as well.
If she's 50 she should have enough to retire. Hope she has a good life, away from stalkers!
ReplyDeleteI have a friend who loves her. Watches her whenever she's on. She also was spending lots of money buying stuff. She then found out some of the things she wanted to buy could be found on EBay, still new, but for much less money.
ReplyDeleteYes her stalker is giving her panic attacks. He watches her show obsessively. I think she's getting off air so stalker won't fixate on her anymore
ReplyDeleteMaybe she just got bored.
ReplyDeleteIt must be grindingly dull feigning excitement over a jar of cream day in & day out.
Well maybe she just wants to retire, did she marry well? If you are not enjoying what you do and you've been good with your money unless other people who spend every cent so they have no choice but to hang onto a job they grow bored of or outright hate, nothing wrong with getting out and exploring other options.
ReplyDeleteIt's not like she is David Caruso saying I'm gonna be a movie star and we all snickered when he quit because we all knew he was going to regret that.
If she is a good pitch person she will have no trouble finding something else.
This goes back a decade, but my husband was a manager at a restaurant in the West Chester/Exton area. Lisa used to eat there somewhat regularly and he said she was a very nice, non-bitchy guest.
ReplyDeleteI rarely watch QVC but hell, even I know who Lisa Robertson is. There are a lot of old ladies in the country who'll be muy upset about this! :-)
Hi Jane!
DeleteI'm originally from Chester County (Kimberton, then Valley Forge growing up.). Miss the beauty of the area.
I used to watch QVC about 20 years ago before the Internet took off. Does anyone remember Kathy Levine? She was the top seller on QVC and a bud of Joan Rivers who was supposed to do something big and didn't.
ReplyDeleteI bet Robertson goes to HSN. That's where all the old QVC hosts go to retire.
I hate all of those shopping channels and wish they weren't taking up so much bandwidth.
ReplyDeleteI never cared that much gor her as a host, but i wish her well. I know she loved to travel; mb she socked away enough money to do that. She's also very tight with alot of shoe, jewelry and handbag makers in Italy, so mb she be importer.
ReplyDeleteLisa was not only the fan favorite but she made the biggest salary (more than $500K a year. I'm sure (hope) she has saved a little. She's probably leaving because of the stress of the stalkers. I wish her well.
ReplyDeleteOne of the bad things about that job is the never ending change of hours. They don't have a regular "shift", and work all times of the day and night.
ReplyDeletei love qvc.. in the kitchen w/ david is my crack addiction and i love temptations bakeware
ReplyDeleteshe will probably be a buyer rep for the vicenza italy jewelry line which is a huge seller
I like her too, thinks she's beautiful as well.
ReplyDeleteI did think she was older than she apparently is. I also thought she (some of them) made more than $500k a year.
I give my mom a hard time cuz she's a constant watcher and buyer.
Quack quack. Lol. Jk. (Yeah, my min has bought some Quacker Fac stuff, it's cute on her, but she doesn't quack-ever.)
she might do infomercials for a brand, she does have great skin and is very elegant.
ReplyDeleteI completely forget the name of the guy but he now does infomercials with the Ronco guy (Ron Popeil?) anyway, he was always my favorite on QVC. Dude knew almost everything and I loved when they'd have people like Stan Lee on and he spent the hour or two just being a fanboy and asking all the questions a normal person would ask. I haven't watched 10 minutes of QVC combined since he left.
ReplyDeleteDavid Venerable is the best host on QVC.
ReplyDeleteNo clue who she is. But, if she's almost 50 and she's had a "high-paying job for 20 years", maybe she's invested wisely and is just ready to retire and enjoy her life? I certainly would!
ReplyDeleteThat's a bummer. My fiance' recently saw her when I had QVC on one night and he developed the cutest crush on her. He'll be seriously sad ;) I also agree about the stalkers.
ReplyDeleteThe guy I was talking about was Steve Bryant. I was watching The Legend of Mick Dodge just now and the name just popped in my head. I used to watch him everyday but only bought two things, a Star Wars Episode IV poster signed by Drew Struzan and George Lucas (sold it for almost 20X what I paid for it) and a set of Marvel Masterworks signed by Stan Lee. I loved watching him, guy knew so much about so many things, that's back when QVC was fun and didn't take themselves so seriously. I even remember him making a joke about serial buyers by referencing the Mama's Family episode where she got hooked on buying stuff from their version of QVC.
ReplyDeleteI'd watch that Rowdy! (Yup. I'm a nerd)
