Kesha Sues Dr. Luke For Sex Abuse- He Says It's All Lies

In a lawsuit filed yesterday, Kesha alleges that for a ten year period beginning when she was 18, her manager, Lukas Gottwald aka Dr.Luke sexually, verbally and physically abused her. She says that Dr.Luke gave her a date rape drug so he could sexually assault her while she was unconscious. He repeatedly called her fat which led to her becoming bulimic. She concludes by saying that her doctors have advised her to have no further contact with Dr. Luke because it could kill her. Her lawyer, Mark Geragos, who also represents Chris Brown says Kesha is also trying to get out of an unfair contract she was induced to sign.

In a counter complaint filed by Dr.Luke he says the contract is valid and that Kesha and her mother have launched continued personal attacks against him in an effort to get him to dissolve the contract. He is suing for damages and his lawyer says he expects to win. Well,no one expects to lose. OK, well as a Washington fan, I expect to lose every week, but in court you never expect to lose or why would you bother? Rumors have been circulating for years about Dr. Luke and what he has done to Kesha and others but Kesha is at a point in her career where she wants to make her own deal and not be locked into giving up a ton of money and she did go to rehab for a very long time and I'm sure that continued contact with the trigger for her issues does not help.

  1. I'm Team Kesha on this one.

  2. I was beginning to think this is the "norm" in the music industry which is a shame but I don't doubt that Kesha was a willing participant in the beginning.

  3. If the contract is worded in such a way that it is air-tight, which might be so considering he's so controlling, it may be extremely difficult to break.
In any event she seems to have turned her life around and looks really healthy and good now so good luck to her.

  5. Hope Kesha finds a way to get out of the contract. He seems like every other usual music industry exec. Glad she got herself some care and is addressing any issues.

  6. Dr. Pepper > Dr. Luke

  7. I've no doubt some bad shit happened to the girl. Proving it will be the hard part.
    I hope she'll be okay.

  8. Well no contract is unbreakable in the sense that she may have to pay him off to go away - George Michael has tangled with big record companies twice though not without costs but I guess he figured his dignity was worth it. Like the first contract WHAM signed, of course these managers and record companies take advantage of young artists every day and more than just financially.

Does Dr. Luke want his dirty laundry dragged out so long he won't be able to sign another client ever? It's already going to be like that so then again he may hang on as long as he can.

Sometimes better to settle with the jerk out so you can have dignity and peace of mind. i don't think any court is going to force her to work with this man ever again and I hope she has a smoking gun.

  9. So glad im poor and unpopular

  10. FSP - No need to sully the good name of Dr Pepper in this. Mr. Pibb > Dr. Luke would suffice even in its inferiority to Dr Pepper.

That said, I don't doubt that she was plied with drugs and sexually abused. I hope that this case shakes out some of the music industry slimeballs and sets a precedent for young girls that their sanity and dignity is worth more than a record deal.

  11. Dr Luke is the name of a marvel villain, Ke$ha is a dumb name. I usually prefer evil than dumbness, but I will make an exception in this case.

  12. Sad. This scum also manages becky g. She's so young and talented and thirsty for the spot light. I know this scumbag had been using that to his advantage.

  13. The entertainment industry is full of stories of abuse and rape and exploitation. And every day, we all say "why doesn't someone do something about it (enty)" or "why doesn't she leave?" Well, Kesha is doing just that. She's standing up for herself. Personally, I will defend her to the ends of the earth, because she is risking her career and reputation to do the right thing. If all she wanted to do was get out of a contract, she would do it in ways that don't risk her career. She's doing this because she wants to let the world know what goes on. Go Kesha. I will make a point of buying any music she produces from her on out, and hope everyone on this board who has been disgusted by Enty's tales of rape and abuse will also do the same.

Don't agree with anybody here. According to the DM, Ke$ha's mother has already admitted that they have been lying.

In my book anybody who names themselves Ke$ha is already 10 steps behind, and stripping herself naked at the Kennedy memorial to attract the press sort of did it for me.

  15. BS, K$hit. No one made her do drugs for almost a decade and celebrate doing drugs in her 'songs', her 'show', etc. She happily did that all on her own

So Miss AutoTune wants a new deal and label. Boo. Hoo. There is no pent up market demand for a former one hit wonder and her autotune.

She should focu s on her sobriety and transitioning to a more nor, sober life. Touring music acts are paved with addiction, shady characters who provide for those addictions. Everyone knows this. And that IS the attraction for many.

  16. Well if this is true, she needs this to help with her recovery, taking control vs her abuser.

In terms of the addiction issue, whether or not it applies here, don't tell that manager and agents don't turn their clients onto stuff because it makes them easier to manage [sometimes steal their money] to lose weight etc and if they were minors at the time I think that's a crime or two or three never mind the sexual abuse.

Yes it would have been better if they walked away but you know how many people were sexually abused as children and took decades to come to terms with it.

The good question would be in the case of minors in the entertainment industry is where is mom and dad though, seems to me the children that had parents that were truly looking out for the best interests have come out of the process of child stardom fairly intact and healthy like I think Hillary Duff for one example I hope.

This is why anyone who loves their children should never allow them i this industry unless they are prepared to chaperone 24-7.

This could also be both a power play and the truth. In what context was the mother admitting to lying. At a time she was in denial or felt threatened by this guy?

  17. I don't see how she could be lying. What would be her movite? I don't feel a wealthy celeb would ever want to sue for money, when they're loaded as it is. Why would she want to slander the name of someone and break off from their music label for no reason? All I can say is, I totally and completely believe her. She must have anger in order to put this out in the media for the world to see.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Oh and never mind the parents who are willing to pimp out their kids for stardom. And really parents who really love their kid would say wait until you are 18 and even then adults get chewed up and spit out by this business.

  19. Team kesha. . What were the rumors of Dr Luke over the years??

  20. If "Ke-dollar-sign-ha" just wanted out of a contract, she could just fulfill it and put it behind her or bring less difficult-to-prove allegations.

If she just wanted money, she stands to make a LOT more *with* him than without.

If she's a crazy vindictive bitch, there should be a trail of other victims at this point. (Are there? That doesn't seem to be her reputation...)

If she just wanted press, she's gotten it plenty of other ways over the years that didn't risk her reputation and profession. Think about the music industry and how many other successful producers just might blacklist her b/c they don't want to risk allegations (or getting called out for actually doing this).

If I was betting on who is telling the truth, the odds seem to be in her favor. I just don't see a motivation that would benefit her enough to bring these kinds of allegations. She is taking on a much bigger risk to make the claim. Keep in mind, the burden of proof is on her.

  21. @Tru: Kesha's mom also followed her daughter into rehab with no rhyme or reason behind it. I wouldn't use her as a barometer of truth and honesty.

@QueenAnne: if all Kesha wanted was a new record deal, there are easier ways to do that than accuse your former producer of assault and other heinous acts. If anything, Kesha is risking several years of being blacklisted by go this route.

With all the time she spent in rehab, it seems that she is taking her sobriety VERY seriously. And who are we to say that what she's doing now isn't a way to confront demons that are haunting her?

Something went down with Dr. Luke. The questions are how much and how much of it can be proven.

  22. Someone's words *can* be the root of an eating disorder, i'll give Kesha that. But I don't really buy that Kesha was drugged or an unwilling participant in anything sexual that happened between them.

  23. I can't say as I care for her, but I am with Kesha on this. She is taking a BIG risk in her future career to bring this out of the open. Maybe she is doing it for herself as part of her recovery, or maybe she is trying to warn future young girls to stay away from this guy who at the least has very fluid morals.

  24. He sounds like a major d-bag but this stupidly named chick was 18 & a legal adult. Her lawyer is a huge a$$. He reps Chris Brown & was Scott Peterson's atty. Peterson was the guy who murdered Laci, his 8 month pregnant wife, tried to flee to MX & is now on death row in Calif.

I don't know if she's lying or not, but if this is a lie she has a lot to gain from it. A lot ot desperate artists sign contracts that make them little to no money, which is why many of them turn to other ventures. Getting out of the contract any other way could rack up all sorts of legal fees. Given the current attitudes towards gender based abuse right now if she could pull this off not only does she get out of her contract, but she could also make a living as an activist. She could still do music though. Somebody somewhere would sign her. Her mom was a prominent songwriter for a time, so she's got connections. Ke$ha isn't the grass roots artist she'd have people believe
