Elizabeth Pena Has Died
More sad news. Actress Elizabeth Pena, most known for her role in La Bamba, passed away on Tuesday at the age of 55 from natural causes. Far too young.
Pena's resume was huge, the result of a successful career spanning 40 years. Besides La Bamba, she appeared in Lone Star, Jacob's Ladder, and Rush Hour, just to name a few. Most recently she played the mother of Sophia Vergara's character on Modern Family. She will be missed.

Highly underrated RIP.
ReplyDeleteRIP beautiful lady
ReplyDeleteThis stinks. Rest in peace and good journey, elizabeth.
ReplyDeleteRIP Elizabeth. She was a great actress---I'll always remember her in Lone Star.
ReplyDeleteI read about this last night. Very sad. I've always loved her in everything I saw her in, starting with Batteries Not Included.
ReplyDeleteClassic movie!
DeleteHow do you die of natural causes at the age of 55. There had to be an illness of some sort. Otherwise...I can't see it being natural.
ReplyDeleteMy thoughts exactly! I'm curious about how she died. So sad.
DeleteNatural causes means not homicide suicide or catastrophic accident. It means illness.
DeleteSuch sad news. I always liked her. I'll miss her voice.
ReplyDeleteVery sad news, she was lovely.
ReplyDeleteAlso, not old enough to play Vergaras mother! they are only 12 years apart!
I actually liked "I Married Dora" with a young Juliette Lewis. RIP.
ReplyDeleteSo sad. Loved her in Lone Star. I always thought of her as a Latina Barbara Stanwyk. Weird, I know, but they actually had similar voices and facial structure.
ReplyDeleteWow. That is so accurate. They could elicit respect for their characters seemingly without effort.
Delete@Crila16, heart attack, for example, or an aneurysm.
ReplyDeleteLove her very much, and as far as I've heard, she was a very nice person.
So beautiful, so underrated.
ReplyDeleteRIP

ReplyDeleteAnnalynn McCord/Dallas Reboot.
ReplyDeleteAnnalynn doesn't really have anything coming up, except for Killer Photo.
55 isn't old, but it isn't too young for a heart attack, stroke, aneurism, etc.
ReplyDeleteI liked her. RIP and sympathies to her family.
Her scenes with Chris Cooper in Lone Star have stuck in my mind all these years. Among the most fully-present moments Ive seen on film.
ReplyDeleteI think I read she had a 'brief illness'
ReplyDeletethis makes me so sad. She was so young.
RIP.
ReplyDeleteOh wow, hadn't seen this. This sucks. She was great in Lone Star and a great 'straight' man in Rush Hour.
