Bewitched Returning To NBC Next Year

Next fall, to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the original show, NBC is going to air Bewitched. They haven't even shot the pilot yet, but NBC paid a lot of money to acquire the rights so you can bet it will be aired. I remember when they made the Bewitched movie I was pretty excited to see how they were going to shoot it and thought it was going to be a can't miss. Then of course they cast Nicole Kidman and Will Ferrell and asked them to pretend they had the hots for each other and they had the chemistry of a meth lab explosion. I think the movie had promise, but who they cast was just horrible and I hope everyone in the studio responsible for it got fired. I want them to have new jobs now, and they probably do. They are probably the brains behind Bad Judge or something like that. Anyway, the new show will focus on the granddaughter and how she has magic, but how even her magic can't find her love.

  2. Big "Bewitched" fan here who isn't thrilled but will only pass judgement once it's been produced and viewed.

(Calling her Daphne, though? I instantly think of Scooby-Doo. Shouldn't they stick to the "ends-in-'A'" theme?)

  5. It's from the same people who did the terrible movie. This will end badly.

  6. Let us please be frank. It was never a great show to start with. It was mediochre at best. Cant the networks crank open a window in their nailed shut minds and put on something new??? Wld that be so awful??? I am so sick of low rent retreads!

  7. No Elizabeth Montgomery, no Bewitched. Call it something else.

  8. It wasn't a great show, but in the context of the time, it was passable and pretty standard fare.

    1. Kno- yes, exactly- in the context of its time. 50 yrs later, after sopranos, dexter, breaking bad, sons of anarchy and boardwalk empire???? Not bloody likely to be remotely interesting.

  9. Where's my Endorra sound cue to flush this turd of an idea?

  10. Surely there'd be lots of chemistry in a meth lab explosion?

  15. I loved the original series, and when they announced the movie, I had very high (albeit unrealistic) hopes...
Then, I saw what they unleashed. And in all truth, called everyone I knew and told them not to bother and to tell everyone they knew not to bother.
At the time, I also had high hopes for "Tabitha" (the original failed sequel) ... and again, disappointment.
Is three times the charm? I can only hope.
One of the things about doing sequels or spin offs is the ability to stunt cast the original cast - you can't do that with this show...all the principals have died.
One major plot line point, how are you going to explain the absence of Samantha and or Endora ? You can't say "they died" ... because while they did age (somewhat), the witches were semi-immortal in the original.
(Yeah, too much of a fan boy)

  16. There are no original ideas left in H'wood any more. I should just go crawl under a rock now!

  17. The movie had a stupid premise, they were actors filming a tv show, but the unknown for Sam really was a witch, & Darwood was an ego manica star, & the witch really did love him.

  18. I thought the Bewitched movie wasn't too bad. Supporting cast was fun to watch. Yes Will as Derwood-no
    redeemable qualities.

  20. I loved this in reruns….they will ruin it…again

  21. @Merlin - there's no such thing as too much of a fan boy when it comes to Bewitched.
If you're feeling under the fan boy weather, surely you remember this:
    Calling Doctor Bombay!
    Calling Doctor Bombay!
    Emergency! Come right away!

  23. I can't say much about the rest of her performance but Nicole K could do the nose twitch.

Also don't forget they've tried a spin off already:Tabitha wth Lisa Hartman.

  24. Ugh, no. "The chemistry of a meth lab explosion" made me LOL.

  25. Yeah there is loads of chemistry in a meth lab explosion.

Why why why? Think of something new, not using "reality" but actual scripted good ideas. Money spent they will never get back..

Speaking of original, anyone see "Black-ish"? Laurence Fishburne is exec producer and plays dad..It's a really good show IMHO. Newsflsh!! African Americans aren't cliche. I think it's pretty smart and one of the best new ones I've seen in a long time. Dare I predict it may start sweeping Emmys like Modern Family? One can only hope..

  26. Let's see, we've already had how many witch themed shows? Do we really need another one and why would they even attempt to remake a classic? Even based on a classic? Would you make a show saying you were Ricky and Lucy's grandkid and expect anyone to watch it or care? They should just air the original series or forget it.

  27. No. Just fucking no! Why do they have to ruin everything from my childhood? This is why I watch TCM so much and rarely watch remakes, reboots or as Hollywood likes to so dishonestly put it "reimaginings". No good will come of this.
