Amanda Bynes Almost Got Her 5150 Reversed

Acting without an attorney, yesterday afternoon, Amanda Bynes spoke up in mental health court and almost convinced a judge that she should be released late yesterday when her 72 hour 5150 hold expired. The doctors at the Pasadena hospital and her parents asked for the judge to extend the 5150 hold for an additional 14 days to allow them to obtain another conservatorship over their daughter. The judge however only extended the hold for three more days and then will revisit the issue. Apparently, even though not all of the meds have started working, Amanda managed to hold herself together and checked off a list of several reasons why she should no longer be held. She told the judge she had not harmed herself or others and that she how she chose to live her life was her business.  She said she broke no laws, although, either one of the stores she attempted to shoplift from could have squashed that. She stated there were no grounds to keep her under a 5150 hold and was lucid and really made a strong case. Her parents better hurry if they want her to not to be out on her own again very soon.

  2. All a judge has to do is read a newspaper to see how much help she needs.

  3. If she was lucid it was because of the meds they gave her when they took her to the hospital. No way should she be released.

  4. She will stop taking the meds the minute she gets out, if the parents don't get conservatorship.

  5. All I can say, I'm pretty impressed she has managed to hold onto the same pair of sunglasses being as out of it as she is.....I lose 2 pairs a year just by leaving them behind in restaurants...

  6. Could we please stop using people's mental illness as a spectator sport?

  8. There are people in the world who act a lot more odd and say a lot more crazier things than amanda bynes. As long as she isnt harming herself maybe she should be free to live her life the way she wants. Perhaps this is her new normal. Maybe she did one drug that mentally fucked her up permanently and this now her new normal. You have some strange druggies on the streets that function a lot crazier than her and are allowed to live their lives freely. Amanda is a science project now but im not so sure that her rights arent being violated. I guess the best way to analyze this is to put your own self in her shoes.

    1. Doesn't she have 2 or 3 DUI's in the past couple years? It's just a matter of time before she hurts herself or someone else if they don't lock her up.

    2. Exactly, @Dorothy...she hasn't harmed herself or anyone else YET. It's not as though her behavior is safe behavior, she has just been very lucky that none of her episodes has harmed anyone. Too many DUIs, there was a report the other week that she just walked right out into traffic.... It's really only a matter of time. Unfortunately, I feel this way whether or not her parents get the conservatorship..

    3. Theres common folk in the street that have more duis than that. They aren't being put on 5150 holds. My point is that just because someone fucked up their brain with drugs and act crazy or weird doesnt mean we should automaticallly assume theyre crazy. If we started doing that for everyone, a large percentage of americans would be on 5150 holds, more than a few cdaners included. Shit that might not be a half bad idea now I come to think about it.

Bytw, I should point out this is all just theiry. Amanda may batshit crazy or she mighta did too much acid and be a different person. I dont think either has been proven uncategorically one wsy or the other.

Source: I know some people who have dropped acid too many times and changed overnight- like a personslity swap. Parents wanted to throw them in the looney bin too.

  11. One of the reasons her shenanigans have become public sport is that she insists on broadcasting herself through social media, won't stop giving interview, etc. If she and mental issues kept quietly to themselves, we would have far less opportunity to scrutinize her.

  12. I hope the parents get conservatorship again even if just long enough to do a money grab & put it in trust for her. so she doesn't blow thru every penny & wind up being one of those poor souls you see in every major city that is destitute and obviously very ill.

altho it is obvious amanda has a problem, and given her history it will escalate until she IS a problem to society I have to agree that she's getting attention because of the publicity and her posts on twitter.

i saw a video clip on the 'net where she was coming in to LA and I had to turn it off. the press was surrounding her goading her and it was heartbreaking. for someone who's on a mental teeter totter like her having large #'s of people thrusting cameras flashing lights and intrusive almost beligerant goading questions can't be helping.

  13. 'attempted' to shoplift. No crime was actually committed.

  14. touche SNJ

Well I have to say I could find a number of other offences in that video/pictures of that attempted shoplifting incident - like assaulting the security guard for one, causing a disturbance, you know things a non celebrity or poor crazy or non crazy person would have been charged with.

    1. Omg Tina in what video did she assault a security guard??? You wouldn't be talking about the one where she asks her driver to help her unfasten a fanny pack she tried on and the buckle got stuck, would you? And then she danced funny all around the store as the cashier rings up her bill which she then signs? Is there another video I missed?

  15. For God's sake, if they wanted to I could be in a 5150 hold. I'm a grown ass man (38) that collects Transformer toys, to some, that could be construed as crazy (And I'm sure a few of you who read this will no doubt say I am for doing it).

Being different isn't the same as being crazy. She never got a chance to rebel, to be a kid who learned right from wrong. Let her break the law and spend some time in lockup, that will do her a lot more good than just plying her with more pills. Basically, using an analogy she's being a 13 year old acting out an sneaking out of the house to go see a concert her parents forbid her to go to.

  16. Generally anti-psychotics take just 4-5 days to lesson the hallucinations, depending on the person of course and how many relapses they have had. Can take a little longer though to treat all of the symptoms of psychosis and schizoaffective which I am pretty sure is what she has been suffering with given her behaviour. I hope they are able to keep her that long, so that she can actually make a sound decision.
Her family must be really going through hell right now.

  17. I really dont get why so many here are saying hey shes okay She shows all signs of schizophrenia and needs mefication on a daily, permanent basis. Denying she's ill will put her right back where she was: setting fires, talking about the chip in her head, walking around undressed and texting about it. She mentally ill, not eccentric.
