@Karen: Your typical Starbucks baristO basically summarizes that the best part of his day is misspelling the 500+ names that come in. Just to infuriate you for his amusement. Overpriced coffee shop trolling in it's poorest form. The End.
@Lace, I have common name with an unusual spelling, too. I've taken to giving them celeb names. Helena, Janiston, Miley, Carrie Underwood, etc. The only one they've mispronounced so far is Cersei. {pout}
I have a Spanish last name. It starts and begins with an "a" with a couple of "l"s thrown in there. If I had a dollar for every time I've been at a Dr's/dentist's office and my last name has been mispronounced as "Al-Qaeda". You haven't lived until you've heard yourself referred to as: "Miss Al-Qaeda please come to the front desk please. Miss Al-Qaeda to the front desk please.". Having to deal with all the stares that follow that mispronunciation make it 100X worse.
I tell them my name is 'Huh,' then they repeat their question again. So I say, "No, my name is Huh. Then, I get THE LOOK! When my order is ready, they yell out "HUH!" How many ways can you misspell it?
My name is Joy. Easy to spell, easy to remember, not trendy or unusual, but you wouldn't know it from the reactions it gets. I always want to add a disclaimer, "Hi, my name is Joy, but I didn't pick it".
I just wish they could read it off the little gold card they give you. If you hand someone something with your name like a debit card, why are you asking my name? It's on the thing I handed you, spelled correctly. There are 2 Ns in bunny not 1!
i've been doing this to starfucks forever. i'm just a very middle-aged man, but always give a name like, "Lois" or "Blanche." there's a little old lady worker who i freak out every time...and it pleases me.
The weirdest part was the first name he spelled after explaining stuff and showing "Gessica" was Chris, my name and I was thinking "how could they misspell my name other than KRIS?" If someone put Khris, I would know they were fucking with me since there is literally no one I have ever seen spell the name like that.
I hate when strangers yell my name out in public so when they ask I tell them Jane!
ReplyDeleteThey spell your name wrong because you touch yourself at night, Enty!!!!
ReplyDeleteTl:dw also dont waste time or money with Starbucks
ReplyDeleteim black and the spelling of my name usually befuddles non-blacks. tehehehehe

DeleteThis guy is irritating as hell. If he really works at Starbucks, they should fire him. Super dick head.

ReplyDeleteI think Joy is a beautiful name and those others are idiots!
DeleteYoj, (never once did I see that that was Joy spelled backwards), I like the disclaimer, "My parents hadn't met me yet [when they picked that name]."
DeleteI just wish they could read it off the little gold card they give you. If you hand someone something with your name like a debit card, why are you asking my name? It's on the thing I handed you, spelled correctly. There are 2 Ns in bunny not 1!
ReplyDelete@missbunny--agreed. My name is on the card, yet they ask every time. On the plus side, they never spell it wrong, or mess up my order.

ReplyDelete@SYF : I think I am going to start using my CDAN name at Starbucks! It is so much easier than my real name
ReplyDeletePlus it comes from the daytime soap opera Passions so it's pretty amazing ;)
I know a girl called Euphoria.
ReplyDeleteShe doesn't drink in Starbucks.
@MissInfo
ReplyDeleteThank you, you're very kind.
@WUWT?
"...and now they're thinking of changing it to long-suffering."
Yoj was a childhood nickname. I was stuck between a rock and a hard place.
