Sarah Hyland Gets Restraining Order Against Her Ex
For the past four years of her relationship with her now ex-boyfriend Matt Prokop, Sarah Hyland says she was in an abusive relationship and knew she was in an abusive relationship, but never left. When she did finally break it off with her ex he threatened to kill her and himself and sent hundreds of texts and voice mails threatening her and himself. When Sarah did finally tell Matt she was leaving him she had friends at her house, including her Modern Family mother Julie Bowen who interceded when Matt started to become violent. Shortly after that Matt went to rehab but his doctors advised Sarah to get a restraining order against him because of the danger he posed to her.
This is some scary stuff. This is not a naked woman jumping into Keanu Reeves' pool when he is not home, this is a guy who would all Sarah horrible names when she was dressed in a way he thought was inappropriate and threaten her with violence and actually be violent towards her. When a doctor who is treating the guy calls and warns you about him then you know it must be something serious.

And a restraining order will help her how exactly? Shithead needs to be put away for her to be safe.
ReplyDeleteThey were saying on the radio this morning that his face needs a good meeting with a shovel. That that's the only thing for a punk like that.
DeleteThat is awful and I'm glad she got out. Dude looks like a little punk even.
ReplyDeleteGood for her, getting away from him finally. Love that Julie Bowen was there to help and support her, the Modern Family cast seem to really get along and seem really close.
ReplyDeleteThank God she had support and finally broke free. Let's hope we're not reading about their passionate reconciliation in several weeks....makes me absolutely crazy. I have no idea why this show about unnpleasant people being rude and unpleasant to their "loved ones" is popular, but thank heavens there was this kind of support from a castmate.
DeleteWhere are her parents in this scenario?? Even if she's 24 or whatever she is....my dad would have that kid never heard or seen again if u get my drift...old school.
ReplyDeleteOT..Vince Vaughn to star in True Detective this year...officially:)))
Glad she got out. That's never a good situation and Sandy is right ... dude needs to be put away. I swear I'll never understand a person who treats someone they supposedly love like this.
ReplyDeleteIf he's a danger to anyone, including himself, he should be locked up.
ReplyDeleteas much of a fuckup this kid is - his doctors shouldn't be talking to anyone about his medical condition or how his treatment is going. That's illegal. Unless he signed off on it.
ReplyDeleteAnyway yeah he's a fuckface.
The one time doctors can break confidentiality is when the patient is a harm to themselves or others. It's good he warned Sarah and hopefully informed the police about the guy too.
DeleteIf he poses a threat to someone the rehab is required to advise a restraining order
DeleteOk! Thanks for clarifying. Makes sense!
DeleteYes Jeanie. We always inform people confidentiality can be broken if there's a risk of harm to self or others. Hopefully the police will treat this restraining order with proper respect unlike the many they just ignore. Poor girl. Terrifying
DeleteHopefully her story helps other young women, who can relate, to model themselves on her strength.
That makes me so sad for her but thank God she had people around her to help her, and who doesn't adore Julie Bowen now?
ReplyDeleteXx JB
DeleteAgree!! I've been in a relationship like this before and to have someone supporting you is a godsend.
DeleteI'm glad she wised up enough to bail. I've tweeted back and forth with him a couple of times, and had no idea he wasn't a fairly ordinary, stable kind of guy. Guess that just shows that you never know. I do know, however, that there's absolutely NO excuse, EVER, for the type of behavior he's apparently been exhibiting around her. The fact that they've been "together" for a time, even that they've (likely) had a sexual relationship gives him no ownership of her, and only a punk or someone who's seriously disturbed would think it did.
ReplyDeleteI anticipate that this will end when her security detail shoots and kills Prokop for violating the resngaining order and trespassing.
ReplyDeleteIANAL, but it is not a violation of patient - doctor confidentiality if the doctor believes the patient is an immediate threat to himself or someone else.
I read somewhere else that Tarasoff law allowed the worker to inform about his threats.
ReplyDeleteCommunicating a threat is a crime and he should get jail time.
ReplyDeleteFirst she needs to move into a security building after that I guess a body guard for a while…he frightens me..
ReplyDeleteHe's an actor, I'm sure at one time or another he expected his movie career to take off. Sarah has been very successful with Modern Family, apparently they were living in her homes on her money.
ReplyDeleteFor a certain type of man and actor, that could be too much for their ego.
The dr did the right thing, legal or not. Thrilled Julie Bowen was there to help her. Ive had a little experience with these intense abusive men, and they are very scary. Cant be reasoned with. Cdaner above is right, order of protec doesnt really protect, just greases skids for legal action. I wish her well, and i dnt even know really who she is!! lol
ReplyDeleteLong time lurker, infrequent commenter.
ReplyDeleteMental health professionals have a "duty to warn" possible victims if they believe that a patient poses a danger to themselves or to potential victims.
It does come from Tarasoff, but Tarasoff isn't technically a law in the sense that it wasn't passed by any legislative body (although there may be state laws that accomplish the same effect). It's a court-created doctrine (common law).
Doctors are bound by patient confidentiality, but they also have a duty to warn people who may be in danger of being harmed by a patient. It's a sensitive area, but countless lives have been saved because of it.
Awesome, thanks for clarifying.
DeleteIf you are a threat to yourself or others, doctors are required to intervene. Apparently they found him to be a legitimate threat to Hyland.
ReplyDeleteA restraining order isn't worth jack. If I were her I'd get a gun, and that's advice I don't usually give. But when the doctor calls to warn you that's the sign of a real problem.
ReplyDeleteRestraining orders are like gun banning: nutjobs and criminals don't give an f word about it, but leave the other people in a false calm.
ReplyDelete@Stranger, that ain't Love- it's control
ReplyDeleteg'morning btw :)
He must be followed 24/7 by authorities after his Rehab stint;as soon as he violates the restraining order, either by text, computer, letter, sending flowers, going anyway near her, etc. arrest him for violating the NoContact clause-then put him in either a psychiatric facility or prison for 5+ years.
ReplyDeleteI love that Julie Bowen was there. This poor girl, I hope she is hiring security.
ReplyDeleteThis is so sad. I remember reading an article about their romance and how supportive he had been of her illness (kidney transplant needed), recovery and career taking off.

ReplyDeleteJust think about the tens of thousands of women who are in this position in this country today, believe me the studio is going to have security for Sarah. She can also afford to hire security herself if she needs to. The LAPD threat assessment unit is also monitoring the situation if not providing security for Sarah. None of the other women in dangerous domestic situations have that kind of protection and many of them will die. Sarah will not die. How do we protect these women and children who need protection the most?
ReplyDeleteAmen, unknown. And that is when these women are in MOST danger of murder, when they try to leave.
DeleteIt was so cool of Julie Bowen to come help her with this. She should have called Ed O'Neil too as well as Sofia and her gigantic boyfriend. I hope she gets some therapy to help her deal with why she stuck with this loser for so long.
ReplyDeleteMichael-i thought your wrote sofia and her giant booty, lololo
DeleteThe real value of a restraining order is as a Get Out Of Jail Card after the cops find him outside your home ventilated with bullets from your new Glock.
ReplyDeleteLimoMan - true dat.
DeleteLimo-ventalated eith your glock bulletts-lololololol
DeleteScary stuff. Jesus.
ReplyDeleteI wish the law would catch up with these stalker/abusers (famous or otherwise). Some of these people straight up need to be locked up. We don't want another Rebecca Schaefer situation happening. Crazy is seriously scary because as was stated above - they don't care about restraining orders.
ReplyDeleteI must say, when I heard of diminutive Ms. Hyland choked up against a car, I got tingles in my tighties.
ReplyDeleteShe should move to Texas, post her address on Twitter or Facebook, and put a bullet in him when he knocks on the door. Dude is a damaged fuck and needs to be culled from the herd, because if he don't kill/hurt her, he going to do it to someone else. Fucking beta males.
The count having a heart!
DeleteHe looks like a noodle armed hipster bitch, and that haircut just screams mentally unstable. However, he has threatened her and she should get a concealed carry license, and a gun, and learn to shoot. Go talk to an ex-cop, some of them give lessons on things like situational awareness, how to fight and disarm people, and various self-defense tactics. Don't let someone else make you a victim, you can't control him or anyone else, but you can do everything in your power to take care of yourself. And IMO that does not include relying on the police or restraining orders to protect you. Shit like this is why I am so extremely pro-2nd Amendment. You can't rely on others to protect you, nor should you!
ReplyDeleteHe grew up in Victoria, TX - like an hour away from me. This really doesn't surprise me.
ReplyDeleteI don't have a good feeling about this, I really hope she invests in a glock.
