George Clooney Got Hitched

Apparently George Clooney really did find true love or at least someone to marry in a hurry because he got married yesterday in Venice to Amal Alamuddin. Today (above) they showed up to hang out with friends because that is what George does. It seems like there is never really alone time, he always has to be with someone. So, no honeymoon? I know he has to film a movie in New Orleans and Puerto Rico with Sandra Bullock that has actually started shooting so maybe that will be their honeymoon or maybe we will only see Amal at awards season.

Anyone watch SNL last night with Ariana Grande? She is such a crap performer and those songs! ugh just awful...

    1. @ derek harvey, curiosity killed the cat! I just watched part of a performance. Something about her irks me. Mayhaps her nasal heavy gasping singing style (not that I sing better, just that I know one is supposed to sing from the diaphragm), or how Fake she comes off...
I love strong female talent and welcome young entertainers- but that one doesn't do it for me! Too much diva, thirsty child.

  8. Wow. That dress looks drafty.

I'm happy if they're happy, but I somehow have a bad feeling about all this. It's all just a little too...something. Quick? Flamboyant? Perfect? ...something.

  14. @Misch, I'm with you. She wore a similar version to rehearsal dinner that was longer. Maybe it would look better with a softer fabric that flowed better, and wasn't so rigid.

  16. It was revealed here about a month ago that she wanted more money to supplement what she's going to be losing in future earnings...anyone find the reveal?

  18. How can he be called a bachelor when he was married before? And she has beautful legs, not liking the dress though.

  19. BTW, where the hell was Brad Pitt at this brouhaha? Does anyone else think that maybe Angie is really sick? She does look like crap these days, and after all that double-mastectomy stuff last year, it makes me wonder.

  20. Amal has insanely gorgeous legs but for her age I think that dress is a tad too short in front.

    ReplyDelete
  21. My guess is that he is somehow involved in that LA scandal. Marrying his attorney ensures that she will not be breaking any laws by refusing to testify about things he may have told her (not all communication is protected by attorney-client).

So, the marriage is based upon trust.

  24. She's pretty but that oddly constructed dress is too short for a woman her age. She tends to dress a bit twee anyhow. Yeah great legs though and hey, good luck guys.

    ReplyDelete
  25. @Cobe, that's an interesting angle I hadn't heard before. Is Amal licensed to practice in the US? The whole relationship seems strategically mapped out. I like George, so part of me doesn't want it to be true and hopes that he finally met someone to settle down with. But my conspiracy loving side hopes for something far more interesting.

I know it may sound anachronistic but I’m loosing respect. get your shit together woman, your not supposed to be a famewhore.

but i like the construction of it. just would've liked it better if it were a little longer in front and had a normal hemline. she's too old for high thigh hemlines, IMO.

  37. As an aside I was reading somewhere just last week an article that said a study showed that preventive masectomies are not 100 per cent guarantees.

Of course all surgeries have the potential for other complications. You solve one problem you create another.

All of what one has to weigh when making these decisions and keeping your fingers crossed you have skilled physicians and other health care providers around you. And stuff happens even with the best care.

  38. They look winderful together and estatically happy. Mazel. Cant believe how the press is losing its shit over this!!!!! Relax!! Its just 2 humans! Now if anniston shows up pregnant, media will implode and be no more. Lollol

  39. She is good, even great for him - however he is not going to be good for her professional career IMO. I mean how is the legal community she was working in going to respect her when her wedding is a cover story in Vogue. A la Kimye.

I don't know her background - if she already comes from a wealthy family in the first place. So either that community will see her higher profile as a bonus or a negative.

  40. I was going to say it would be like Julian Assange dating a Kardashian. It would taint his rep with many who see him as a hero and make those who think he was just out for attention, well just confirm it.

Of course a lawyer who doesn't need to get paid or can do all work pro bono is a bonus too.

    ReplyDelete
  41. LOL @auntliddy, that would be awesome!

Mazel to them. They look happy and while it seems sudden, maybe there's that teeny tiny sliver of optimistic hope that says they may truly be in love.

I disagree that it's an odd pairing. Clooney carries a lot of weight and is involved in politics. Marrying an international lawyer makes more sense than being with the Keebler Elf.

I find the swiftness of this marriage odd too only because he was single and then engaged. No courtship, no prolonged dating or being arm candy during awards shows.

  50. @Tina I also questioned her throwing away a very promising legal career to become a "Mrs." but then I thought she now has the opportunity to start a non-profit organization to help raise money for her/their political passions. 63. This whole thing is weird to me. It seems like one big giant PR extravaganza & yet I kinda see them as a couple at least. Then I keep getting told how amazing she is, how her work is astounding, she's not just arm candy etc etc & yet...is she ever in work anymore?? Since she got with George you see her flying off places, regularly out & about not working & yet she apparently is still one of the top lawyers in the world? I thought they had crazy hours!

Then obviously you have he whole George & his women PR angle & what he's leading up to. There's something going on & yet I don't feel it's the obvious option, he's being too blatant about all this.

    ReplyDelete
  64. CoBe - Whats the LA scandal?

I really don't think this marriage is to augment George's potential political career seeing as the bride is Arab. I'm not judging, but let's face it, others will. If this was a strategic marriage, he would have picked an all-American Carolyn Bessette type.

    ReplyDelete
  68. What's with all the "she has great legs?" Um, skinny as hell and no visible muscle tone. Her thighs are the same circumference as her calves.

    ReplyDelete
  69. @Little Miss Smoke

It's not about the wedding day itself to me, sure enjoy yourself, whatever you want, go for it! It's the days/weeks/months before that bother me with her. She's apparently this great lawyer, internationally renowned (& I don't doubt her actual credentials) & yet when/how is she doing any work in the last 6-9 months? Ever since this relationship became public knowledge (via Clooney & his PR guys letting people know) they've been seen fairly regularly, never in one place that often, lot of travel, lot of dinners etc & yet she is somehow also fitting in work?

I certainly see how Clooney gains from this & if she can't be arsed with doing lawyer work anymore, I see how she gains. But if she still wants to actually work & be a respected lawyer I really do not see how any of this helps her whatsoever, she's become a WAG. Diminishes her entirely & that I'm not happy about if indeed she is as great a lawyer/person as is said.

    ReplyDelete
  70. Btw I don't mean to sound too negative on her personally, I'm merely confused as to how/why media are selling her as this Kate Middleton-esque happy wife/fashion clothes horse when she's apparently so much more that that.

Either she's happy to be sold that way or media are doing her a great disservice. Either way this whole thing is a weird mix of PR selling & misrepresentation.

    ReplyDelete
  71. Rosso - Thanks for replying. I do see your point. I had heard that part of the prenup negotiations included her sacrifice of her earnings, so maybe she's giving it up? Or likely, won't be a 9-5 lawyer anymore (or 7-7), but basically write her ticket and take up causes she's interested in? I can't begin to presume the lifestyle at that level of celebrity and fortune.

    ReplyDelete
  72. I have to say.. Its nice to see a classy hollywood event. She is graceful and elegant. Put Kardashian in any of these dresses and she is still a porn star.

    ReplyDelete
  73. Amal has not put her career on hold to be Clooney's little wifey. She still practices and lectures, and in August wrote a piece for HuffPost about Egyptian constitutional law titled "The Anatomy of an Unfair Trial", and had a book published in June.

    @Rosso, what's a WAG?

    ReplyDelete
  74. @Seven of Eleven

British slang shortening for Wives & Girlfriends (WAGs) initially used for football (soccer) wives/girlfriends & the fact they just go shopping, spend their husband's money, occasionally have jobs of their own but almost always media related, be it reality shows or fashion etc. Victoria Beckham is usually credited as a big start to the modern WAG culture in Britain but that was years ago, even she has moved beyond WAG status now. Blokes get called HABs (Husbands & Boyfriends) but that's far rarer than WAGs.

    ReplyDelete
  75. I do hope she's not just being a WAG then. Would be disappointing if a woman with all these qualifications, opportunites, contacts & experience became a fashion-horse piece of arm candy just because she got married. Hopefully my ambivalence to her is media trying to sell me an image that isn't a reality.

    ReplyDelete
  76. There is something smelling in Denmark about this wedding. I can't believe I'm writing this, but I respect Brange better for the way they handled their nuptials.

    ReplyDelete
  77. Well, this doesn't ring true to me either. I've lost all respect for George because of his past manipulations. Why doesn't he just let it go? Why pander to public opinion to such a degree. So many in Hollywood supposedly stand up for the gay community, unless it comes to their personal life, and then they smokescreen it to death. I don't believe him any more, nor care. He lost me a few beards back. Don't even think he is a very good head wagging actor any more either. I think Brad didn't show up because it is not for real. I really think Randy Gerber is his true love. I would respect him if he were truthful. I don't think he is. He doesn't owe the world an explanation of his private life, but ye gads, he goes to a ton of trouble and money to manipulate public opinion. I don't like being yanked around. As for Amal, she is a lovely girl, but how respectable can anyone be if they can be bought or contracted. I haven't a doubt in my mind that this is a contract of some kind. And, what gets me is, so she is perceived as married, and what if she wanted a real relationship, or a real marriage. Ah well. Their business. I just don't believe him any more and have lost respect and interest.

    ReplyDelete
  78. In the DM (a very unreliable source for anything) I mention this only because there was a direct quote from an Australian designer who when being interviewed thanked Anna Wintour and Vogue for selecting one of her dresses for Amal's best friend(the blonde in the boat next to Bill Murray). It's safe to assume that All of the dresses were selected by Vogue as the wedding will be a layout in an upcoming issue. The skirt on Amal's short dress was a bad proportion for the length of her legs and dangerous given the fact the paps were in boats and only had an upskirt angle. Emily Blunt's burnout velvet dress was so appropriate. It looked like Fortuni fabric which comes from Venice.

I think George wants kids and he wants them to be intelligent. As far as her career goes she is loaded with options. She could go on the speaking circuit and name her price and still pick and choose cases that interest her.

    ReplyDelete
  79. They're perfect for their respective agendas and (luckily) visually explosive. In love? I wouldn't bet my hard earned money on it, but whatever works for them. God Bless.

  80. @Dereck I watched part of SNL, loved Weekend Update, vast improvement over last year. Had to hit the mute button after 10 seconds of Ariana.

I don't think Mr. & Mrs Pitt attend any event where they don't get top billing.

    ReplyDelete
  81. Amal is apparently a big fan of (a) showing off her legs and (b) wearing dresses with uneven hem lengths (photo here)

So George Clooney and Rande Gerber (Cindy Crawford's husband) are partners in a tequila company. I heard Rande Gerber was best man. In any event, he knew the paparazzi photos would be distributed world-wide, so when he and Cindy arrived in Venice, he was wearing a t-shirt advertising his company. Smart.

Famous people on the guest list:
    - Matt Damon

    - Bill Murray

    - Ellen Barkin

    - Emily Blunt & John Krasinski

    - Anna Wintour (George Clooney is one of very few men every to make the cover of Vogue)

    - some comedian guy I recognize but I can't remember his name - (anybody?

    - Bono

    - Miguel Ferrer (George's first cousin, son of Rosemary Clooney and Jose Ferrer)

Amal's mom is a bit chubby and her little sister might want to consider a nose job. Her other sister is a looker too.

I'm not a fan of Anna Wintour's look - especially the hair with the bangs - but I'm particularly not a fan of her STYLE - for the editor-in-chief of Vogue, she's not exactly a fashion icon. Check it out.

I have to say, Amal is striking. She has beautiful bone structure, luscious lips, great skin and hair, a supermodel body, gorgeous teeth... I have never seen a photo of her where she doesn't look fabulous.

I wonder what her father looks like. No photos of him that I could see. And she must have gotten her height from him cuz her mother's not that tall.

George Clooney is aging beautifully. He's like Cary Grant in that way - he just keeps getting better.

    ReplyDelete
  82. I think Amal has a beautiful face, is very glamorous and elegant. George is very beautiful and he make a good couple. I like the dress but the left seems very short in front. And not like her thighs. They look like two sticks. I wish much happiness to the couple, I believe, is really passionate.

    ReplyDelete
  83. I don't know, it seems more like a media event than an intimate personal event and you don't see a lot of eye contact between the two of them, it's like she's very aware of all the media attention and very happy about it. Maybe she *is* content to become a WAG which is a shame, you'd think someone with her brains and accomplishments would be above that, but that sort of fame and celebrity is intoxicating I guess.

She went to NYU School of Law and practised in NYC for three years so she was definitely admitted to the New York bar. Her undergraduate degree at Oxford was in Jurisprudence (essentially, law) ... I don't know what the qualifications are to practise law in the UK or whether they have the equivalent of the bar exam but clearly she is fully qualified there as well.

While a law student she clerked for Sonia Sotomayor who is now on the US Supreme Court (then she was on the US Court of Appeals).

Anyway here is even more detail about her professional career. By any measure it has been brilliant to date.

I mean, I don't think you could make up someone like her, she's almost too good to be true.

    ReplyDelete
  84. If they're both onboard with this arrangement then more power to them. People get married for any number of reasons. You can bet this was well planned out which gives it a better than average chance I guess. I can't say I don't think it's weird but when has Hollywood ever NOT been weird? Congrats to them both.

  87. Prunells - The most important of that picture to me is that KAREN DUFFY (aka MTV VJ Duff) was in the boat! That's just weird to me since they used to date. It might've been the last time he dated anyone for real.
