Drew Carey Offers Reward In ALS Ice Bucket Bullying

Even ALS ice bucket challenges are not without bullying. Last week two teens near Cleveland, OH convinced another teen with autism to take the challenge. Instead of filling a bucket with ice, the teens filled it with urine, feces, and spit and then filmed it all with the victim' phone and then posted it to Instagram. The mother of the autistic teen called the school and police and it was largely kept local until Drew Carey stepped in. On Saturday the game show host offered $10K to start a reward fund to find the teens behind the act. So far the school and police have no idea who did it. I wonder if the autistic teen knows, but is afraid to say anything about it. Someone will talk at some point and the teens will be caught, but I wonder if they will even learn a lesson or will just grow up and still be a-holes. What kind of kid thinks this is a good idea? When they do catch them, it will be interesting to hear what their parents have to say about the situation.

  1. Willing to bet the all of the kids parents are probably jackasses, too. Apple usually doesn't fall far from the tree where bullying is concerned.

  2. The parents of the kids who did it must know about this. It had to be on the news there. Carey shouldn't have to offer a bribe for people to do the right thing.

  3. Jenny mccarthy doubled the reward. Their behavior is beyond despicable. What kind of adults are they going to be?!

  4. Drew is one of the good ones.

  5. This just breaks my heart. Wtf is wrong with these kids :-(

  6. Jenny's husband Donnie threw in another 10k.

  7. Jenny's new husband Donnie Wahlberg has added another 10grand. It's 30 thousand now. That's a lot of money for an high school kid who heard something or was told something...

    1. Cece-even better, hopefully whoever is awarded money will donate it to autism research.

  8. Yep. Wonder if the guilty parties will use the "affluenza" defense. I have a sneaking suspicion they will.

  9. I hope they catch these punk kids. What terrible people.

  10. I don't know this guy but I like him.

  11. That was very kind of them. I would hope that the money be set up as a college scholarship fund for this kid because he's the one that really deserves it.

  12. I spent some time wondering what I would do if it were my kids that did that. For starters, I would feel that I had failed terribly as a parent.

    1. I agree, figgy. I just hope I am raising my kids well enough so that something like this would never even be a thought in their head. I once read a "Would You Rather" question that asked "Would you rather be the parent of a serial killer, or the parent of a victim of a serial killer?" I have never been able to answer that question.

    2. Agree a million percent. If one of my children did that to another human being, I'd be heartbroken. I hope they find these miserable little snot asses who did this.

  13. Drew Carey has been one of my secret crushes for years, since his sit-com. He's a great guy.

  14. Those kind of jerks will brag about what they did, especially since they filmed it. There usually isn't much loyalty among scum so someone will come forward. I also wouldn't be surprised if a teacher or parent hears something and calls the police.

    Sick Sad World

  15. What kind of sick freaks are they?
I have a severely mentally disabled brother and sister and I swear to all the gods if ANYONE pulled that kind of crap with them i would fuck them up.
I've taken down a few bullies in my time but for that shit I'd do some jail time.

  16. Perfectly put figgy. Disgusting.

  17. @figgy
    Agreed.
Parents spend so much time (understandably) worrying about what could happen to their children. I don't think enough parents worry about the quality of people they are raising. I realize this is presumptuous of me, given my childlessness.

  18. This is disgusting! Not to mention potentially harmful and a biohazard. Why kids do this in this day and age I will never comprehend.

  20. Sure, the teens acted like cruel dbags, but what they really want to do is direct.

  21. This brought tears to my eyes. I don't know why this particular story, as opposed to all the other wretched things humans do to each other every damn day-- thoughtlessly, or deliberately, or even officially--but this one broke my heart a little.

    Fuckers.

  22. As a quick aside--blimey, Drew's slimmed down!

  23. What the fuck is wrong with people? This is a horrible act, and they felt the need to film it? For laughs?

Shame on those teens, and their parents!

  24. As the parent and aunt of two autistic boys I am so happy that these celebs are doing this. To the little bastards who did it I'd love to have 10 minutes alone with them. It makes me effing stabby to think of that poor trusting autistic teen who just wanted to fit in.

  26. Poor kid. Drew Carey isn't all that funny although I love "Who's Line" , but he always seemed like he's a really good guy. Glad to see that he is.

  27. I hope this poor kid gets some love from the community, maybe brought on Ellen show and a nice vacation. This just sucks. Bullying kids is not ok...

  28. Terrible. I hope the parents of those assholes have a heart, but I have doubts because people aren't just born bullies. They have to learn it from somewhere, and it's usually from the household.

I'm so sick of the "victims should learn how to defend themselves" argument when it comes to bullying. Um no. You don't victimize anyone. Period. I feel so bad for the kid. Good on Drew Carey for stepping in. It just sucks that he has to use money to get people to do the right thing and identify the two assholes.

  29. I think Drew looks better a little heavier. I don't like skinny Drew.

I wish I lived in Cleveland. Then I'd at least have a shot at the 10K.

  31. This breaks my heart. That boy was so trusting, probably feeling he was being included - being autistic spectrum, he's likely to have some problems with socialisation. That's what makes this even more effed up.
Cruelty like that comes from little, nasty sh*ts who lack any degree of empathy. That stuff is learned. I hope they find these two, and teach them about accountability. Truly effed up.

  32. What in the ever loving hell is wrong with people? Yet another reason I'm glad I didn't have kids. My sister was relentlessly bullied through school because of a birth defect. We had to deal with assholes on a daily basis through jr high but NOTHING like this. My heart breaks for this kid and the parents. Makes you want to hate the world. Thank god there are nice people out there like Drew, Jenny & Donnie (in this instance). I wonder if the police would have done much if they hadn't gotten involved?

  33. Most of the news articles I've read about this say that local people, including the police, know who did it, but either can't or don't want to prove it.
