Blind Item #3
There is finally an opening in her armor. This A list celebrity who rules over a section of the entertainment world with an icy stare is actually in danger of losing her job. Her bosses are not happy that the A lister is pushing the career of a person they, and most people find offensive. They have warned her to stop. So far she has said no.
Anna wintour
ReplyDeleteAnd kanye
Deletegood guess Tricia---Anna has lost her Mojo---she is also pushing the career of Kendal
ReplyDeleteYep D....why...she must be close friends with Richard tischi lol
DeleteOr pushing Kim
ReplyDeleteI think she only pushed Kim cuz she has some affinity, no one understands, for kanye..maybe it is riccardo tischi related(kanyes)BF
DeleteAnna AND the big bottom is racist controversy
ReplyDeleteYep Anna Wintaur and Kanye.
ReplyDeleteAnna wintour & Kendall k.(per DM she banned Kim from her fashion shows) & she just landed ModelCo.makeup contract which competes w/sistas' line, right?
ReplyDeleteDear God please let Anna and Kanye go down in a fiery plane crash together. Privately chartered, so as no one else gets hurt. Amen.
ReplyDeleteAnna Wintour and John Galliano
ReplyDeleteAnna refused for so long to put the Ks in her magazine. Why did she finally give in? Does Kanye have something on her?
ReplyDeleteThat's exactly what I was wondering. There can't be any other reason. Can't wait to see her taken down by the corporate money guys.
DeleteAgree. There is no other reason. I'm all for letting Anna go and getting someone new with integrity. I haven't even looked at one of those mags since she started with Kanye.
DeleteAnna W.
ReplyDeleteoh yea, Kanye for sure.i just saw someone "offensive" good, way overdue.
ReplyDeleteThe met gala next year will feature designs by Galliano plus her obsession with making the Kartrashian happen is lol worthy. .
ReplyDeleteAfter hearing what Kanye said to the handicapped people in his audience I'm with rosie the riviter about the plane crash (as long as the pilot has a parachute).
ReplyDeleteHaha I almost typed *save the pilot too. Thanks for the add on
DeleteShould have been labeled easy-easy!
ReplyDelete@Lace, bonus points with the Illuminati!
Seriously, though, I've said this before - Anna is ruining Vogue by putting celebs on the cover instead of models or people of style substance. Her credibility as a fashion expert, much less an editor, is in the toilet and someone's gonna flush.
This is definitely Anna W and the Kardashians
ReplyDeleteI don't get it
Kanye must have something on her
@rosie....I chuckling...
ReplyDeleteAmerican Vogue has long lost its cachet. The Kim and Kanye cover was the nail in Wintour's coffin. When you resort to putting trash on the cover of Vogue--resulting in canceled subscriptions--it's apparent Anna no longer gives a f*ck.
ReplyDeleteYep, Anna and Kanye, pretty obvious.
ReplyDeleteI think it's Anna Wintour and John Galliano.
ReplyDeletehttp://pagesix.com/2014/09/12/anna-wintour-giving-john-gallianos-career-a-second-life/
I wonder what kind of dirt the kardashians have on anna to get her to support them the way she has.
ReplyDeleteBefore I get bombarded with hate, can I just say that I said this because of what kanye did to those people in his audience- I log HUNDREDS of hours each month advocating for my disabled clients- what he did was beyond forgivable. To hell w him.
ReplyDelete@rosie the video released today shows he didn't heckle the guy in the wheelchair at all, just wanted to know if he was in one as he was arrogantly making the whole arena stand up. He's still a massive douche but not for making someone in a wheelchair stand up...
DeleteOprah Winfrey
ReplyDeleteBut Kim and Kanye Vogue cover was one of Vogues biggest sellers. I highly doubt the publishers give 2 shits who is on the cover as long as it makes money.
ReplyDeleteThat being said , Even though her rating doesn't quite fit {def A list, and has an EGOT to prove it, so she isn't "just" a celebrity) could Whoopie be trying to get someone like Kathy Griffin on The View?
It actually wasn't that big of a seller compared to what they thought it'd be.
DeleteBasil, that vogue cover was a huge seller bc the Kardashian's bought all the copies and that was part of the deal that got them the cover. They simply wouldn't allow the embarrassment of letting the real sales numbers be public.
DeleteThink it was around 225k. Copies. Nowhere near the 3 50k of the beygengcy or mobama.
DeleteOk so it wasn't huge but it wasn't as low as it should have been
DeleteI'd LOVE it if she got canned! Maybe that'll bring her down a notch or two...
ReplyDeleteNot to be mean, but karma is a bitch and I just don't want others getting hurt when the meteor strikes her, Kanye and Kim...
ReplyDelete@rosie - you didn't say anything wrong. Kayne is an asshole and now after what he did I'm wondering if PMK might look at him as a liability and tell Kim to get rid of him.
ReplyDeleteI find it more plausible that the career she is pushing and causing controversy is Galliano's. He is a lot more controversial in fashion circles than the K clan. He made horrible remarks, whilst the Ks are just trash.
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteJust to clarify, not sure the Kardashian's are considered by most people as *offensive*. Irritating, annoying, classless, crass, immoral, yes. Offensive? Not sure.
ReplyDeleteIn fairness, SusanB, Kanye was very specific about it being okay for handicapped people not to stand up if they actually couldn't.
ReplyDeleteSo it isn't what he said to them that makes him a douchebag, it's what he said to everybody else.
Listen, asshole-ye, they paid for their fucking tickets. You want a standing ovation, earn one, don't stand there and pout because you think you deserve one just for showing up.
Yes it's really quite the tossup who Anna is pissing off more the Jewish with Galliano or anyone not blind or mute with the Kartrashian. . 50/50 really. Lot of advertising is lead by Jewish people who would have her head for championing his return to fashion
ReplyDeleteAnna Wintour has been there 25 years now, and there've already been rumblings of who might replace her. She's not safe. That's what Enty means by the crack in her armor now.
ReplyDeleteIn fact, putting Kardashian on the cover came AFTER the rumblings earlier this year in the media world of names already being vetted to replace her. The Kardashian move was a Hail Mary stunt to try to save her position.
ReplyDeleteThe offensive person has to be Galliano.
ReplyDeleteK and K are just low class fame'hos but G has offended some important people and Ms. Anna can't seem to ignore him like the rest of the world has done.
PS: wishing death on someone is not very nice.
Shit. I never thought she'd get replaced. I think it's Galliano.
ReplyDeleteEXCELLENT guess Sophie---Sophie FTW
ReplyDeleteOne can only surmise that Wintour knows her days are numbered so she is pushing the limits to leave Vogue in worse shape when she leaves. Take that Conde Nast-y.
ReplyDelete@Carole D and @Robbie Pave'- Nice Call With The Goods!! Galliano as the offensive one!!
ReplyDeleteIm w/ your guess. Wintour & Galliano
I'm definitely on the Anna Wintour train. The offensive person(s) in question could be Galliano or the Kartrashians.
ReplyDeleteBOTH are offensive, just in different ways.
I think a few of us got it with Wintour and Galliano, but she's also recently been promoted to artistic director over all Condé Nast magazines. Anna has skills and drive the rest of us can just dream about.
ReplyDeletehttp://nymag.com/thecut/2013/03/wintours-promotion-causes-concern-at-cond-nast.html
Here's the best part whether it's Kimye or Galliano with Anna gone it will def limit their exposure on Vogue. I couldn't give a shit either way since Vogue is not my cuppa anyway.
ReplyDeleteKanye is one talented MF. His Black Skinhead cd and video are simply fantastic.
ReplyDeleteThat's why Wintour wants to cozy up to him, he introduces wild new concepts to music and video. She wants to soak up some of his ideas.
Problem is, Kanye doesn't know his limitations. Like Gwynneth Paltrow, he should shut up right now! His decision to contract with Kim and the Kadashians was so very misguided and unfortunate. He should have stuck with Amber Rose who could have broken the fashion barriers with big bang.
Kanye believes that because he is brilliant at one thing, he will be brilliant at all things. He ain't. Mirroring Jay Z in all things only shows how dreadfully insecure he is. If he had dropped the notion of becoming the groom in a power couple, of expanding his brand into areas of complete failure, if he would just realize that in many ways he is far more talented than Jay, he might have had a shot at being the most talented artist (in video form at least) over a couple of decades.
Kanye forms bad alliances. He buddied up to Jay on Jay's terms (which only diminished Kanye. Damn that "Otis" cut is awful.) Kim was a spectacularly bad choice. Kanye has been rudderless since his mother died, as far as personal/professional relationships go.
Plot I agree, kanye is ridiculously talented. Unfortunately his mom kept him grounded and I feel her passing was when he went downhill. He needs a worthy mentor and I hope it's not too late. I remember when his first album came out he was like the new Jesus to us. We were all so interested in what he had to say. Now, he freaks out if a kid in a wheel chair doesn't stand during his song because unfortunately he really does think he's Jesus.
ReplyDeleteQuestion: Has Galliano ever apologized for what he had to say about Jews, and not just in a "sorry if you were offended" way? There's a chapter in Simon Doonan's latest book, The Asylum, where he talks about Galliano and suggests that, if he sincerely apologizes and does his best to make it up to people and mend his ways, he might well be welcomed back into the fashion fold, especially if substance abuse was part of the reason he went off but now he's sober. Haven't really kept up w/the whole kerfluffle since the initial blow-up, so I'm wondering.
ReplyDeleteRobin, I personally believe Galliano did apologize. I felt he admitted his torture was addiction and he got help. Vanity Fair did a story on him and he was quite contricious (sp) but he asked for forgiveness too soon. That may be the problem. No doubt he's extremely talented.
DeleteThat wld be cool if anna got canned because of her kimyee love. She's so plasticine anyway, will we even be able to tell if shes upset? Yeah, but that is one batshit 'friendship'.
ReplyDeleteWhat did Kanye say to the handicapped people in his audience?
ReplyDelete@Sherry I think the word you were looking for is "contrite."
I was conflicted about Galliano because "in vino veritas" but he is hands down my favorite designer, his work is so beautiful.
So everyone else is probably right, But My guess is Barbara Walters bringing back that horribly offensive Rosie!
ReplyDeleteWarning, huge comment follows, CDAN has a 4096 character limit so I’ll be breaking it up into a couple of chunks.
ReplyDeleteAbout putting celebrities on the cover of Vogue, I recently did an analysis of this (I know, who DOES that, but I was interested).
Anna Wintour took over as editor-in-chief of Vogue in 1988.
In the 60's through 1990's very few celebrities scored covers. Vogue traditionally used only top fashion models on their covers, and the concept of the supermodel didn't really come about until the 1980's. I think the only people who knew the cover models' names in the early decades were fashion industry insiders, and maybe Vogue subscribers.
I have spotty records through 1983 and then starting in 1984 I have complete month-by-month data.
Audrey Hepburn was on the cover in 1964. And I would guess she got the cover more than once in that era, but as I said I have very spotty records, especially for the 60's.
I have the complete list for 1970 and 1971. Celebrities on the cover in those years:
Ali McGraw (March 1970)
Sophia Loren (December 1970)
Catherine Deneuve (February 1971)
Goldie Hawn (March 1971)
Elizabeth Taylor (April 1971)
Princess Grace (December 1971)
Cher was a favorite in the early 70's - she appeared on the cover twice in 1972, I don't have good data for 1973, and then she got the cover twice in 1974 and once in 1975. Considering the missing data, Cher may actually be the top all-time celebrity since the most any celebrity has scored in the modern era is 7 (Gwyneth Paltrow).
Sophia Loren and Raquel Welch also got covers in 1972.
Farrah Fawcett got at least one cover in each of 1977 and 1978, and Jaclyn Smith got a cover in 1978.
The 1980’s were almost entirely celebrity-free aside from celebrities who had started out as models (or maybe they were still models at the time, and not yet celebrities), such as Shari Belafonte, Brooke Shields, Nastassia Kinski, and Isabella Rossellini.
As far as I can tell, the only actual celebrity who was not also a model who got a cover in the 1980’s was Madonna (May 1989).
In the 1990’s, the pace picked up a bit with an average of 2 celebrities per year:
Ivana Trump (May 1990)
Kim Basinger (May 1991)
Michelle Pfeiffer (October 1991)
Madonna (October 1992, October 1996)
Richard Gere (October 1992 – with Cindy Crawford)
Princess Diana (May 1993)
Winona Ryder (October 1993, December 1996, October 1999)
Sharon Stone (December 1993)
Geena Davis (May 1994)
Julia Roberts (June 1994)
Demi Moore (October 1995)
Julia Ormond (December 1995)
Lisa Marie Presley (April 1996)
Gwyneth Paltrow (August 1996, September 1999)
Uma Thurman (June 1997)
Cameron Diaz (October 1997)
Sandra Bullock (June 1998)
Claire Danes (July 1998)
Renée Zellweger (September 1998)
Oprah Winfrey (October 1998)
Hillary Clinton (December 1998)
Jewel (January 1999)
Nicole Kidman (June 1999)
In 2000 and 2001 there were an average of four celebrity covers per year, so the pace was picking up.
Then in 2002 there was a sudden huge change. 11 of the 12 covers that year were celebrities. All of the covers in 2003 were celebrities, and since then almost all of the covers have been celebrities (at least 10 per year, usually all 12).
In case you’re wondering, the celebrities who’ve scored the most covers are:
ReplyDelete7: Gwyneth Paltrow
6: Nicole Kidman (one was shared), Charlize Theron, Sarah Jessica Parker
5: Cate Blanchett, Cher (at least 5, maybe more), Keira Knightley, Sandra Bullock, Kate Hudson (one was shared), Renée Zellweger (one was shared)
4: Angelina Jolie, Jennifer Aniston, Madonna, Natalie Portman, Reese Witherspoon, Winona Ryder, Penelope Cruz (one was shared)
3: Anne Hathaway, Blake Lively, Cameron Diaz, Drew Barrymore, Marion Cotillard (one shared), Rihanna, Sienna Miller, Uma Thurman
2: Beyoncé , Carey Mulligan, Claire Danes, Demi Moore, Gwen Stefani, Halle Berry, Jennifer Connelly, Jennifer Lopez, Julianne Moore, Kate Winslet, Kirsten Dunst, Lady Gaga, Michelle Obama, Michelle Williams, Rooney Mara, Scarlett Johanssen, Catherine Zeta Jones (one shared), Lisa Marie Presley (one shared)
Missed one - Emma Stone also has 2 solo Vogue covers.
ReplyDeleteYou know, it's weird that Julia Roberts only got one cover, in 1994. She is arguably very beautiful (or at least, the camera loves her) ... and she was Hollywood's IT girl for a long, long time.
ReplyDeletePerhaps Anna Wintour doesn't like her for some reason.
Prunella you are a saint!
Delete@Prunella Buggerweeds
ReplyDeleteThank you for doing that. It was an interesting read.
I'm not a fan of American Vogue but, in Anna's defence, the switch to favouring celebrities gave a big sales boost to the magazine. She was clever enough to see the change in popular culture to a celebrity-oriented media.
She was also instrumental in the creation of the red carpet industry in the early 00s. That had a direct effect on the way actresses bodies are expected to look since, in order to fit into designer samples, they need to be the same size as the models.
@Prunella Buggerweeds
ReplyDeleteJulia Roberts can't dress for shit, that's why. The women chosen for the cover have to have some association with fashion. Of course, exceptions are made for the most popular/iconic celebrities, such as Jolie and Bullock. Paltrow and Kidman have the most covers because in the 00s they were considered style icons.
Of course, if Anna Wintour does dislike Julia Roberts, then that's a point in Anna's favour, as far as I'm concerned.
@Yoj, exactly. Celebrity covers sell better than fashion model covers. In fact, even though they didn't start putting (almost) exclusively celebrities on the cover until 2003, starting in the late 1980's the concept of the supermodel came into being, and I think when THOSE supermodels were on the cover, they sold well.
ReplyDeleteIs it a coincidence that the rise of the supermodel coincided almost perfectly with the start of Anna Wintour's reign at the helm?
@Yoj, but you wouldn't include Julia Roberts as one of the most "popular/iconic" celebrities in the 1990's and early 2000's? True she's not known for her fashion sense, but I really don't think the celebrity covers went to style icons ... gotta disagree with you there. Drew Barrymore has had 3 solo covers (April 2005, February 2006, March 2008) and nobody thinks she's a style icon!
ReplyDeleteAnd the fact is, if you're going to put a celebrity on your cover to sell magazines (a la People or US Weekly) then Julia Roberts would have been on the very short short list. So I think there's a story there - Anna Wintour dislikes Julia Roberts - go dig it up, Enty!
ReplyDeleteSandra Bullocks is NOT a style icon.
ReplyDeleteI am surprised Lilo never got a cover back in the day
ReplyDeleteand yall are totally correct about Kanye being A FREAKKKIN GENNUIIIIIS (Anna Nicole Smith anyone?) Without him the world may be without leather jogging pants...
ReplyDeleteAnna Wintour! Ding Dong the Witch is almost gone? I can only hope! As I've posted many times before, she has done NOTHING for women designers in her 30 year reign, and turned over the WOMEN'S fashion industry to GAY MEN. Can you imagine a gay woman running the men's fashion world? It would NEVER happen.
ReplyDeleteI know she's supposed to be a mean bitch, but I like Anna. She was good on the Fashion Fund show. I don't think this is about the Ks, I'm going with Galliano.
ReplyDelete@derek harvey, I didn't list all the celebs who only got one cover (either shared or solo).
ReplyDeleteThere are about 60 total, too many to list. In this group are actresses, reality stars, pop stars, politicans and athletes. IOW everybody other than professional fashion models.
You can rest easy, LiLo has never had a cover. But Britney Spears has.
I love chewing on data! Stop me before I blather on and on.
ReplyDeleteBritney Spears' American Vogue cover was in November 2001, well before her crazy days.
Lena Dunham's cover earlier this year actually made her look good. Needless to say, it was a heavily made-up doe eyed head shot. The only way you could realistically photograph her for the cover of any fashion magazine IMO.
Gawd, she's a doughy horrible mess.
I don't get premium cable (I refuse to spend that much on what is essentially an addictive way to waste my life) so I have never seen her show. Is she good?
@derek harvey
ReplyDeleteCalm down, dear! No one suggested that Bullock was stylish.
@Prunella Buggerweeds
You're probably right about Anna having the last word on the cover and going with her own personal preferences. I'd do the same in her place! I'd be fired from the role pretty quickly, though, since out of your list I'd only allow Kidman, Dunst, Winona and Blanchett to be on the cover. Along with Maggie Cheung, Tilda Swinton and Charlotte Gainsbourg. It should only be actresses who've either championed cutting-edge fashion or captured the zeitgeist and consequently influenced designers.
I wonder how many people cancelled their subscriptions after the Kimye issue?
ReplyDeletewhen a big one falls 3 little ones move up...
ReplyDelete@PB.. your awesome.. i love that stuff.. and no , bertney is not a fashion icon, but she is a gay icon and pop culture treasure so she makes the cut. love that the apricot ashtray never made the cover.. hey pb.. did kate bozworth ever make the cover?? she seems so tight w/ anna i would have thought anna would have put her on the cover before.. anna seems to treat her like a lil lost puppy although i don't know why.. probably b/c she's tiny..
ReplyDeleteI'm more inclined to think this is Wintour trying to rehab Gallianos career.
ReplyDeleteHey so just to make it clear I am one of few people on the earth that want lilo to get better
ReplyDelete@Seven thanks for the insight. I'm not up to speed on all the illuminati stuff, so off to Google.
ReplyDelete@ Plot, you made some really good points that help better explain the current Kanye 1) he's talented but doesn't know his limits 2) he's been rudderless since his mom's death and 3) he forms bad alliances.
@sugarbread, yes, Kate Bosworth made the cover - once - in February of 2008.
ReplyDeleteJust to be complete, here are all the actresses, celebrities, athletes, politicians and pop stars who made the cover exactly once. Some shared the cover with another person, those are indicated with an asterisk.
ATHLETES
Hope Solo*, LeBron James*, Marion Jones, Ryan Lochte*, Serena Williams*
POLITICIANS
Hillary Clinton
POP STARS
Adele, Britney Spears, Emma Bunton*, Geri Halliwell*, Jennifer Hudson, Jewel Kilcher, Kanye West*, Katy Perry, Melanie Brown*, Melanie Chisholm*, Taylor Swift, Victoria Beckham*
CELEBRITIES
Diana, Princess of Wales, Elizabeth Hurley, Ivana Trump, Jane Birkin, Kim Kardashian*, Oprah Winfrey, Pilar Crespi, Princess Grace of Monaco, Priscilla Presley*, Riley Keough*
ACTORS/ACTRESSES
Ali MacGraw, Ashley Judd, Audrey Hepburn(a), Catherine Deneuve(a), Debra Messing, Elizabeth Taylor(a), Emma Watson, Geena Davis, George Clooney*, Goldie Hawn, Jaclyn Smith, Jennifer Lawrence, Jessica Biel, Jessica Chastain, Julia Ormond, Julia Roberts, Kate Bosworth, Kim Basinger, Kristen Stewart, Lena Dunham, Lupita Nyongo, Meryl Streep, Michelle Pfeiffer, Nastassia Kinski, Rachel McAdams, Rachel Weisz, Raquel Welch, Richard Gere*, Salma Hayek, Sharon Stone, Tina Fey
(a) may have appeared more than once - data incomplete for that era
*shared the cover with one or more other people
@pb you're awesome for posting all that.. i love stats.. i am very much a stats/math girl..
ReplyDeletefwiw i just watched the kanye video and i thought he was being funny saying "unless you're in a wheelchair, stand up!" but when the last 2 were in a wheelchair he just said "oh okay" and started singing.. i thought that was kind of funny *ducks* but kanye is having too many "episodes" lately.. way more episodes than an A+ list rap, hip hopper like himself is rationed per annum, and it's only september.. taper it off kanye...even the beygency knows when to cool it for awhie..
The Kimmy Kakes kover was not a best seller. Pretty average sales plus a lot of subscriptions cancelled. I have no doubt the Ks bought up every copy they could find and it still didn't have the numbers. Now put another of Anna's obsessions, Roger Federer, on the cover with his amazing sense of style- I'm all in.
ReplyDelete
