This 24 year old single mom just won $66M in Mega Millions and says she plans to spend it on vacations and cars and tuition for her son. Yeah, that sounds like a way to make sure it lasts forever.

Maggie is out promoting her tv series, the honourable woman, and it's brilliant. we've already seen half of it in the UK. I will eat my hat if she doesn't get an emmy nomination next year.

ReplyDeleteTrue enough but other than possible kidnapping, vacations and tuition for the kid won't put a dent in that 66 mill, please. My friend has it all planned out since you have to pose for a photo in Canada to get the prize it's one of the conditions - she has a good scheme to avoid the plethora of people bugging you for money if you win the big one apparently people get bugged for small amounts too. She would have it all set up before she picked up the cheque.

ReplyDeleteAfter taxes, she will have $27 million - opting to take the lump sum pay out.

ReplyDeleteIf I won the lottery, first thing I would do is disconnect my phone, but only after hiring a financial manager. And yes, in Canada, they post your picture and name EVERYWHERE, especially if it is a big one, but we don't have to pay taxes on it until we start spending it. LOL
ReplyDeleteIt's funny, quite a few people in my city have won the lottery and the local paper ran a story about what happened next. Most of them blew it within a few years because they simply aren't used to having that kind of money and it seems like it will always be there, which of course it won't unless you are smart about it.
Ummm...vacations, cars and tuition...sounds about right to me! At least she's honest and not one of those liars that says their lives won't change and they are giving it all to charity...
