Back on the very first season of 16 & Pregnant which begat Teen Mom and a porn star Catelynn Lowell and her boyfriend Tyler Baltierra were alone among their peers on the show in deciding to give up their baby for adoption. Despite that, they managed to make it to the Teen Mom season and have one of the more interesting story lines in the show. We saw them get engaged at the end of the first season of the show and they remained engaged until they appeared on Couple's Therapy which will cause anyone to question their relationship. They remained together though. They are the guardians for Tyler's sister. They both have full-time jobs taking care of mentally disabled adults. They own their own home and each have a car. The money they make from Teen Mom is almost all in savings. There has been a lot of growing up they have shared together over the past six years and I don't know if any of those things would have happened if they had not given up their baby for adoption. It is for that reason that I have always liked them included on the show because you see what happens to teens with different situations in their lives and how their teen pregnancies affect not only their lives, but the lives of their families and the kids themselves.

ReplyDeleteLotta I have a friend who's dad Is married to her husband's mum (both had been widowed). They are known as 'the parents'. If you think about it too hard though it hurts the brain.

Delete@Derek, I watched. I thought a lot of her whining carrying the dog cage was towards the film crew. I was feeling she wanted them to do it for her and they obviously don't. I don't like the way the dogs are kept in cages all the time and no one seems to walk them or care for them. I am not sure why they even have them.

ReplyDeleteI was in NYC a few years ago and saw them, the first baby and the adoptive parents all getting brunch in the UWS. I had no idea they were any different from any other family (two parents, two teenaged kids, and one late 'surprise') until I noticed the camera crew there. Once I heard that they were the ones that gave up their baby on Teen Mom (which I don't watch) I had so much respect for all involved for being able to interact together, even if it's for TV. It must've been hard for Caitlynn watching the adoptive mom fussing over her/their baby. I'm glad the two of them got their lives together and have a real adult relationship (unlike janelle and the porn star girl)

ReplyDeleteThe show doesn't help you see how people in different situations and their families get on with their lives. My niece was one of the 16 and pregnant girls. The producers decide on a narrative and story line for that girl and that is what they show. It is not scripted, but carefully edited. Her father decided not to participate in the show, so it seemed like he wasn't in her life. Her story had a happy ending, but it was never mentioned in the followup segment.

ReplyDeleteTheir story arc was fill of twists and turns. Catelynns meth mom was awful yet you felt sorry for her. These two souls gad zero parenting, no parental live, fought so hard to overcome the dysfunction around them that i will be and am thrilled for their happiness and sucess in life.

ReplyDeleteCatelyn and Tyler were and still are my favorites. Of all the teen moms (or at least most) they really had a rough time just with how they were raised with their parents. Yet they seemed the most mature and made decisions that were hard for them, but they chose not to be selfish and choose what was right for their baby. I remember watching and Catelyn's mom was so pissed with the decision. They both have had their struggles but they finished high school and it sounds like they've been smart with their money (they always seemed very frugal). Good for them now that they are older and have things together that they are having a baby (but like someone else said I hope they get married now).

ReplyDeleteI have no idea who these people are but I sincerely hope it works out for them. Keeping the adoption open will make a huge difference. A friend of mine's parents had a baby that they were forced to give up for adoption as teenagers. They eventually got married and had three more boys. It was not a happy marriage but Irish Catholics mate for Life.
ReplyDeleteEventually the first boy found his mother after the father had died.He was very, very bitter and made life Hell for her. He grew up in a much nicer family(no abuse, alcoholism,plenty of money) than my friend's but could never reconcile that he was given up for adoption. He hasn't been able to forgive even after all these years and has no relationship with his mother or 3 brothers. Very sad.
