I think Lady H. has it. Queen Latifah doesn't act often, but I wouldn't call her a "former" actress. Also, her description should mention her music background.
Given the use of the word "secretly", I have to lean towards the Whoopster. Would "comedienne" have also been mentioned? I hate when my brain keep running after I shut it off. I also hate being old enough to remember Whoopi's stand-up.

I have never felt the need to stand on rooftops shouting that I'm straight, so I don't see why do people expect people who are gay to make big announcements and come out?

These gays on women's talk shows have driven the subject level to the basement. Oprah, to her credit, often had serious subjects and issues about women's health, etc. These gay women's talk shows are as innocuous and worthless as cotton candy. They aren't doing anything groundbreaking, just HIDING their private life, and trying to PANDER to women with children.
Mine would be....john malkovich during his La Liaison Dangereuse period..one of my all time faves....he was..ahh. Divine.(definitely no nekkid dancing malky from Being John Malkovich)

@Studio ---although I could think of better wording than "those gays" I agree----daytime tv talk shows are such crap these days---just fluff particularly Ellen. Even the old Sally Jessy and Ricki Lake shows were better...
Interesting comment. Women love to be pandered to though so I don't think it matters. I agree about the shows though. Ellen's, Queen's and the View are all just pointless fluff. I normally watch Wendy Williams. She tells everything about herself, good and bad.
It's the queen! Latifah that is. I just don't see whoopi as gay. I think her lack of traditional "good looks" has created the rumors. Personally I think she is just kinda a hippy lady who isn't into the whole girlie look, but she likes guys.
