All You Need To Know About The Video Music Awards In One Award

You will notice today there is no winners list of Video Music Awards. That is because all of the awards are pre-determined and invented with the goal of getting performers to show up and hopefully perform. I have talked about this before so feel there is no need to go into it all again. For those teens out there who still think the awards are not rigged or manipulated let us take a look at one category from last night. Best Rock Video. There were some strong nominations with Imagine Dragons, The Black Keys, Arctic Monkeys and Linkin Park. All of them had pretty decent years and any of them would have been a good choice to win the award. So, who actually won the award for Best Rock Video? Lorde. Yep. The show wanted her to come, but there were no categories they could slide her into that had already not been promised. There were no more new awards they felt they could invent for this edition so they stuck her in the Best Rock Video category and surprising no one in her camp, she won. Royals is a good song, although at this point I don't ever want to hear it again. It is not a rock song. It is not even close. Lorde showed up though and her bff Taylor Swift was there so Lorde had to get an award.

  1. I tried to watch this shit last night to take part in the snarkfest. I got through the pre--show and didn't make it 5 minutes into the show because the first performance was so horrid.
Pop music is so embarrassing even the people who actually do it and sat in the audience listening to it thought it was garbage. I wouldnt sit through 15 minutes of Beyonce gin if she handed me $1 million. Been there done that in Super Bowl.

  3. I don't know about you guys, but I am totally convinced that Beyonce and Jay Z are the real deal, that they truly love each other, and it's just a beautiful life. Now....since they have convinced me, will they PLEASE GO AWAY?

  6. The one and only reason to see VMA and who deserved many awards was Beyoncé's show .She's a slayer. The others were shitty next to her

    1. Ariana sings ok but I'm over her sexy baby act and I want to punch her every time she does a backflip to get photographed on her "good side"

  9. I wish I could have a time machine so I could fast forward to 2024 and see where both Taylor and Lorde are with their careers. I see Lorde as a sort of Joan Armatrading type, touring small venues with a committed fan base. Taylor is harder. She's rocking the good-girl, slightly asexual vibe, so any scandal surrounding her will shake her image that much more. At least she can write songs, so if it all goes to hell she can still write songs for other people.

    1. She's so over and doesn't know it yet. I don't know anyone that's excited about her. File her next to Lady Gaga, the schtick is old

  12. @Sandy

I agree I could barely stand to watch the pre show. Pop music is supposed to be fun but I was bored the whole time.

    @Derek

Yep Bey slayed. Iggy and Rita got on by blowing the right people. The end. I want Ariana to make an R&B album. I can't stand to watch her prance around in a onesie looking like a toddler smdh And I was confused on who the Black Eyes were as well lmao

  13. @AY---so disrespectful to the black keys---you could tell Nina Dobrev was thinking "um should I correct him"---but didn't---Lorde should have said something as well but shes just a very young girl

  14. Although pretty cool of Miley to put the homeless teen up there....um stop trying to make yourself cry on camera and wiping away fake tears...like what he said was moving to you. You were not crying...thanks to high def we all can see that. Just like we can see the Kardashian-west/Jenner trash texting and tweeting while there was a moment of silence for Ferguson and Michael Brown...

  15. @unknown--I agree---still tolerate Miley a little more for at least doing something different. What was the point of even having 3 seconds of silence anyways?

  16. Jessie J also killed it!

  17. This will be unpopular but I thought Beyonce's whole performance was just about her telling the narrative she wants out there.
She shouldn't even dignify the speculation about her marriage, but she devoted her video vanguard to convincing us they had problems but are happy blah blah blah.
Oh, and she's a sexy feminist stripper mom. Girl power!

  23. I hope they didn't choose "Royals" over "Radioactive". The latter had more gleeful animosity in one minute than Royals' tweaker boxers who like swimming and TV. :/

  24. And this is why I don't watch any awards shows. We accidentally were flipping channels a few times and saw a few bits and pieces - but mainly of Beyonce because that biotch was on the screen forever.

  25. Beyonce's performance bored me. Her whole existence is beginning to bore me. Why does she always have to perform in a high cut leotard and fishnet stockings? Is she too insecure to wear a miniskirt, or even pants?

Perhaps a few of the ladies who performed last night should take a look at Tina Turner, Sade, Anita Baker and even early Whitney videos and see that talent and class can actually sell records without prancing around in your underwear. I only half watched the VMA's, and I just felt tired when it was over, it was all so samey and unoriginal.

  26. Why is MTV still handing out awards for videos when they aren't played on that station any longer?

  30. Audrey, does MTV even play music videos? Thought it's all shit reality shows about pregnant drug-addled teens who go on to do anal porn. (Not all at the same time though, that'd be gross).
