Today's Blind Items - The Stroke

This actor used to be A list. Actually, if you include his franchise, which is all he really did, he was probably A+ list. Movies. On top of the world. Started spending money and doing drugs like crazy. He blew millions of dollars on women and booze and drugs and ended up having a stroke. A bad one. Drug related. The story has always been that he just didn't want to act any longer. Nope. He couldn't. He couldn't remember lines and he had a speech issue and he had trouble with his physical movements. When he was all set to make a comeback in another installment of his franchise he did physical therapy for almost a year before they started shooting, but it just wasn't quite the same. He looked ok, but his timing was off and he couldn't do the same things he did before. He did get a huge paycheck though. Monstrous and blew a lot of it on drugs again and had another stroke. This time he vowed to never use drugs again and is slowly regaining his old form. He has a new woman in his life who also is his sober coach. Our actor is still really young, so hopefully he can get it all together and be back on top like he used to be.

    1. Dena, I thought of him, but he's not that young.

    2. I thought he was just jacked up from that bad car wreck

  2. Brendan Fraser or Michael Keaton. (Sorry to his biggest fan on this board)

    1. @Sandy: NOT BETTLEJUICE

    2. Can't be mah boo. He wouldn't be described as 'really young'

      Delete
    3. @Sandy but Brandon Fraser is a really good guess. (My phone has capslockangst issues)

      Delete
    4. Also like Brendan guess unfortunately.

      Delete
    5. #BeetleJuice has a movie coming out w/ Emma Stone.

      Delete
    6. Fraser has been working pretty consistently since the mummy.

    7. sadly Keaton was blacklisted from Hollywood, when he wouldn't continue the Batman franchise with the 3rd movie. Lame reason, but I'd be pissed too with sloppy Val Kilmer as the legendary icon

      Delete
  3. Couldn't be Hamill. He has acted in several movies and done lots of voice acting. Busey is a good guess but he isn't that young. I suck at blinds so I have no guess :(

    1. Orlando jumped from pirates to lotr.

  5. It sounds like his franchise might have been when he was a teen or in his 20's for him to still be really young now. But, I have no guess.

    ReplyDelete
  6. I thought Orlando Bloom too, but he's worked steadily and actually has two franchises.

    ReplyDelete
  7. Well we could count R2D2 or C3PO or Chewbacca because those 3 betches are A++ and have never done shit except a franchise.

    ReplyDelete
  8. Eh prolly not Shia but the whole franchise thing and not wanting to act was what made me think of him.

    ReplyDelete
  9. Vin Diesel. Skipped some of the Fast & Furious movies and then came back. In between did only video games and voice work.

    ReplyDelete

    1. @Beth Pitch Black is his other franchise though. I am admittedly a huge Riddick fangirl. Except you know all but the first movie suck.

  10. I honestly think Fraser would be a better answer then Keaton. I think hes got some troubles. Keaton just didn't work.

  11. This is a tough one, Paul Hogan-Crocodile Dundee?

    1. I thought he went to jail. Is jail the new stroke??

      Delete
  13. Hogan is really old Montana.
Wesley Snipes has been in jail and just got out Derek

  14. Brendan Fraser is also a good guess. 7 year layoff between Mummy II and Mummy III (after I and II were more-or-less back to back).

    ReplyDelete
  15. Keaton recently did The Other Guys. He was awesome in it. Not him

    1. Indeed. Keaton has 3 movies coming out this year, not too shabby!

      Delete
    2. Right, also Keaton has done a lot if voice acting for animated films, mainly Pixar films. Cars movies, Toy Story, etc.

      Delete
  16. Also pro-Brendan: There is definitely a new-ish girlfriend that there have been very recent rumors about him getting engaged to.

Anti-Brendan: How does Gods & Monsters fit in? Filmed post-rehab/pre-second stroke, perhaps?

  17. Not sure about BF per the BI his franchise is the ONLY thing he has done. BF has an extensive resume.

    ReplyDelete

    1. I'll go with whatever Montana comes up with. Homey is masterful at the main blind.

      Delete
  18. Fraser does have an extensive resume, but the timeline fits with the last Mummy movie, his divorce, new woman, etc. His credits from 03-06 are pretty thin. Voice work and very minor TV/Movie appearances. Pretty steep drop from where he was late 90's early 00's with no real reason.

  23. Vin Diesel has had steady box office releases for almost 15 years. Like them or not. And technically has 3 franchises if you count the XXX movies.

I'm throwing my vote into the Fraser ring. The fact the blind refers to blowing tons of money also fits with his child support issues from a few months back.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Can't be Brendan Fraser or Keaton, because they've both been consistently working.

I do like the MacCauley guess and Keanu...and I also like Viggio Mortenson as a guess..

    ReplyDelete
  26. Who had a stroke is the key.

None of the following had a stroke: Orlando Bloom, Keanu Reeves, Vin Diesel.

    ReplyDelete
  27. I doubt Chris Klein ever had "millions of dollars" to blow on drugs and women. Maybe hundreds of dollars.

    ReplyDelete
  28. I like that spacecowboy kinda likes my guess. The OG commenters were saying he was one of the best at the blinds back the other day when his reader pic appeared.

    1. Chris Tucker went all churchy & didn't want to curse anymore after the Rush Hour movies. His roles dried up because of that.

      Delete
    2. Hi Bunni, I've never seen anything about that on the web but have seen plenty of links about his gambling and drug taking. I found a link today that talks about him in Silver Linings Playbook

      Delete
    3. And how he is excited to be reading scripts again because he likes reconnecting with his audience and did so during stand up tours after losing his money. (Sorry hit publish too soon). He also fits perfectly with the ratings. He was the highest paid actor in Hollywood for a bit and did other work but is really known for the Rush Hour movies.

  30. I was thinking Chris tucker or...

    Martin Lawrence

    ReplyDelete
  31. I think I'll tentatively jump on board the Brenad Fraser train - "monstrous" could allude to Gods and Monsters (UHMAZING movie btw). I'm thrown by "his franchise, which is all he really did," though. He's done plenty of movies.

Chris Tucker is also a great guess (Rush Hour being the franchise).

    ReplyDelete
  32. Kevin Sorbo had allthose heart attacks (Hercules)

    ReplyDelete

    1. I just saw him recently. No stroke issues; looked and talked like any normal healthy man his age. Hilarious too.

      Delete
  33. The only young actor I can think of who had a few strokes is Frankie Muniz but I can't get him to fit in this blind. I have no other guess.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Keanu's speech may be questionable, but that's not due to a stroke, it's due to, liiiike, L.A......ddduuude. Plus, he had done plenty movies and he rides a motorcycle.

Mac??? Nooooo. I hope not. I love him so.

Vin? I'll remain quiet. My mom said I should in this case.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Chris Tucker for sure has not done much else really other than the Rush Hour movies, but the blind says A list and A+ list if you include the franchise. If you take away Rush Hour from Chris Tucker, the rest of his credits don't add up to an A list actor.

    ReplyDelete
  36. This is going to be a great reveal.

    Unless its Keanu Reeves.

    Then it would suck.

    ReplyDelete
  37. They mention the actor is still really young so I doubt Reeves or Keaton fit

    ReplyDelete
  38. Stallone? He came back and did the movie with DeNiro and Kevin Hart.

    ReplyDelete
  39. I have to words Shia Lebouf...kind of fits...he's A list in my eyes...I hope I get this one because no one else guessed Shia...

    ReplyDelete
  40. Brendan Fraser did a lot of movies aside from his franchise. Otoh, he looks STRANGE now.

    ReplyDelete
  41. my immediate thought of one had a memorable "Comeback" imo is
Jean-Claude Van Damme in VOLVO(?) Commercial!!! my word, what er...'flexibility'..nice visual & he didn't need to say a word or a mumble.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Some of you have reading comprehension issues, the blind clearly says while he had a stroke no one was told that, they were told he just stopped acting.

    ReplyDelete

    1. Well it's not like we haven't tried crossing off the unnessary words from our computer screens with our crayons

  43. This seems like it fits Brendan Fraser and the Mummy franchise to a T.

    ReplyDelete
  44. I think people are taking the "nothing besides the franchise" part too literally. (Esp since he says A list/A+ w/ franchise... implying he did *something* other than the franchise literally-speaking.) If you look at BF's credits between the two mummies, there is virtually nothing other than voice work and video games (the latter of which might not even have required him to record new material). Enty exaggerates all the time; BF did a couple of other random projects. Only Gs & Ms throws me at all... and the timing on that could fit.

    ReplyDelete
  45. They say heavy coke use in yer 20s leads to an increased chance of early strokes (40s).

    ReplyDelete
  46. I think 10th Doctor got it with Chris Tucker. Nice!

    But poor Chris Tucker.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Oh and if you go to youtube and search 'Brendan Fraser Golden Globes Retard Clap' you can watch what appears to be a stroke of some sort.

    ReplyDelete
  48. @spacecowboy HA! i think "young" here means not knocking on hell's door. i like the chris tucker guess, but his new girl aint that new. i think this is fraser

    ReplyDelete
  49. Voice work is not that easy if you had a stroke that affected your speech - there is a degree of timing there I would think...

    ReplyDelete
  50. Like the Chris Tucker guess. I was actually thinking about him earlier, but I didn't think he was an A list, so I didn't consider it. Then I just read he was one of the highest paid actors in hollywood at one point. So....I guess he was an A. I only really remember him in the Rush Hour movies. It's got to be him.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Was Josh Hartnett ever in a franchise? He kinda disappeared.
I suppose Sin City has a sequel, but that's not really a franchise.

Never mind, go about yer bidness.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Even after all of shia's shenanigans I still find him really cute. The main problem is everything he does is blown out of proportion.

    ReplyDelete
  53. I'm with SueRH...McCauley Culkin. Has been a mess for years and looks ill. Home Alone is a franchise.

    ReplyDelete
  54. I don't know how this fits into the Fraser guess, but he recently went to court to have his child support lowered. He said he fell off the roof while clearing a branch and injured his back. He claims it has effected his ability to get into shape and do the type of movies he once did.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Not Brendan Fraser. He went out with the daughter of a friend of mine for a while. No strokes.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Was the daughter of your friend a gay man? That's who Brendan Fraser dates although he marries a beard occasionally.

    ReplyDelete
  57. I always heard that Tucker couldn't read, that is why he didn't do much.

    Friday > Rush Hour.

    ReplyDelete
  58. Nope. She was a real girl.

    ReplyDelete
  59. Of course that's not to say she wasn't a beard…maybe she was, but he didn't have a stroke, and therefore not two.

    ReplyDelete
  60. I am totally on board with the Macauley Culkin guess, he looks the part to a tee, and home alone was his huge franchise and pretty much all he ever did. Plus he is still young-ish

    ReplyDelete
  61. it's not Keanu Reeves. he's down here in n.o. doing a movie and looking very good i'm told. (as of last Sat. anyway).

    ReplyDelete

  63. I think, sadly that it's Macauley.

    ReplyDelete
  64. Leonardo DiCaprio

    ReplyDelete
  65. I know he was in only one of them but what about Edward furlong?

    ReplyDelete
  66. They did do in the past few years both a Home Alone 4 and Home Alone 5, I don't know if they tried to get Macaulay Culkin but the timing is pretty much right -- they might have given him a big advance to make an appearance, he might have tried to clean up his act, it certainly was during the years after he resurfaced

    ReplyDelete
  67. Martin Lawrence. He had a stroke in 1999 and there's eight years between the first and second bad boys movies.

    ReplyDelete
  68. Frankie Muniz is a great guess! @Noel

    ReplyDelete
  69. Why isn't this Macauley? He's still young, would be A+ list for his franchise of Home Alone movies, and clearly has had some kind of medical issue that has reduced him to skin and bones.

    ReplyDelete
  70. That Martin Lawrence guess seems right Quiet Storm.
Before your post I was leaning to Culkin.

    ReplyDelete
  71. Going with Chris Tucker.

  73. Actually, yeah, this is Mac. It never even occurred to me, but even in his terrific comeback role in 'Saved', he is wheelchair-bound. Regardless, I love him. Glad the blind ends on a happier note.

    ReplyDelete
  74. @Alabama You just saw who? Tucker?

I was thinking Martin Lawrence but the dude is 49. It's hard to think of 49 as 'still young'.

So if it's anyone that's been mentioned so far by default it's gotta be McCaulkin.

    ReplyDelete
  75. This is not Mac. He was 12 when HA2 was released. Never signed to or paid for the other ones, they wanted him for the 3rd film but he was kinda busy divorcing his parents at the time. He quit acting at 14 because of his Dadager From Hell then spent years in and out of family court. What judge would grant emancipation to a 16 y/o who suffered a drug-related stroke?

    ReplyDelete
  76. The above is not to suggest Mac hasn't done drugs, he was arrested for drug possession at some point. But he doesn't fit the timing:

12: Home Alone 2 is released
    14: Mac quit acting
    16: Mac is emanipated
17: HA3 is released (just for reference, he had no involvement)

Per the BI, the actor blew millions on drugs, had a stroke, then quit acting. Mac had no control over his finances until he was 16, at which point he'd already been retired. His parent's divorce was horrible, he was just an atm to his dad and that's why he walked away.
