New Jersey Teen Who Sued Parents Gets Restraining Order Against Boyfriend
Do you remember Rachel Canning? She is the New Jersey teen who sued her parents this year when they kicked her out of the house and cut off her financial support in part because they didn't approve of her boyfriend. Eventually the teen was allowed to come home by her parents after she lost big time in court. It turns out that her parents were right about the boyfriend. This past weekend the boyfriend choked Rachel at a party and yesterday Rachel went to court and got a restraining order against her boyfriend. The boyfriend choked her out on a street and Rachel fled in her car and went to the police station where she filed a domestic violence complaint against her boyfriend.
You can never say we told you so though. Well you could I suppose.
ReplyDeleteCongrats
ReplyDeleteSo she's young and stupid, so are 100% of the people her age. She learns from this maybe aand starts to grow up a little eventually.
ReplyDelete@sandy - +1. Exactly correct. "Teenagers are Dumb" isn't exactly breaking news. Our parenting philosophy 'round here is to keep them alive until their brains start working again.
Delete@sandybrook- everyone her age is young, but don't try calling everyone stupid. Npt everyone needs to be physically assaulted to learn a bit of wisdom.
DeleteI'm not sure there's anything that can be said that doesn't sound like making fun of a domestic violence sitch, which no es bueno, but at least she has a good handle on using the court system. I hope it works out for her.
ReplyDeleteQuelle surprise?! Wha? But theirs was a love of the ages.!
ReplyDeleteWho?
ReplyDeleteAnyone who's ever been a teenager could tell you how this would end. Well, I was never choked out by a boyfriend, thank God, but the general spirit of the bad boy your parents warned you about and all that.
ReplyDeleteWhen does their *reality* show start?
ReplyDeleteHuh. So the parents weren't cluless, big meanies? Whadda ya know.
ReplyDeleteMy thoughts exactly.
DeleteAs my father so eloquently said about raising children: You're not there for the takeoff, just there for the crash landing."
ReplyDeleteI have to add, just because I'm bored and stuff, that the kid in that picture up there looks like a real smartass. Mrs. F the mom and Mrs. F the teacher would be on guard from the get-go when that smug mug presented itself. (I was going to say that he looks like he wasn't spanked enough as a child, but I don't want to stir up a spanking controversy this early in the morning. I'll just say "wasn't disciplined enough" when he was little.)
ReplyDeleteHonestly, I'd kind of like to slap the smug mug off her in her picture as well.
Delete@Gayeld - true that. Sister looks like a pill and a half. I'm not sad that I don't have daughters, and all the money in the world couldn't convince me to teach middle or high school. Lordy.
DeleteWeren't his parents the ones who helped her file the lawsuit?
ReplyDeleteI suggest she pursue a career in law, she's already had so much exposure to it.
ReplyDeleteMan, they both look like complete assholes. She at least has a chance, keep on being good parents Cannings! The boy doesn't stand a chance in hell. Idiot parents have raised an idiot child.
ReplyDeleteWith this sort of success under his belt, I'd say this guy has a future as a serial killer.he engineered her suing her parents, got his lawyer dad a job, temporarily alienated her from her parents...and when she rebelled against him , tried to choke her out.
ReplyDeleteI say he gets caught on his first kill and gets shanked in prison...
Man, I need to lighten up!
@Henriette it was the lawyer father of her best friend who filed the law suit. Her best friend's family took in the spoiled brat.
ReplyDeleteThis girl is a handful. Her future will be filled with drama queening.
It's great when other adults egg on asshole behavior
Delete@Steampunk Jazz the boyfriend's family did not drag her family into court.
ReplyDeleteIf the number of court incidents start to pile up, it will become more obvious that she is the problem, not the people around her.
ReplyDeleteA couple spoiled brats that have never had to work for anything that are in for a rude awakening when they get into the real world.
ReplyDeleteMy mom is a long time teacher, now school administrator, if I had ever pulled anything like this she would have kicked my ass.
I've been reading a lot about teenagers, and how their brains are such a mass of neurons at this age. The reason we remember our teenage years so vividly is due to how our brains are developing. I thought of that when I read about this.
ReplyDelete@Henriette - yep. It's biologically reality - teenaged brains are a mess - my heart breaks when teens make decisions in that developmental fog that ruin the rest of their lives. I also strongly object to teens being tried as adults. There's a reason why kids have parents, and a reason why parents are legally responsible for their kids until they're 18.
Delete@trudi
ReplyDeleteThat makes it worse if her best friend's family is that stupid. At least it made sense if it was the boyfriend doing the suing.
I guess dad was right about him being a loser.
ReplyDeleteBecause I don't think it's being emphasized enough here--it's too bad she was assaulted. Even if she's a spoiled brat, she doesn't deserve that sort of treatment.
ReplyDelete+1
DeleteGood for her for running to the police after the domestic violence.
ReplyDeleteThe whole situation is one of 'controlling a person and separating them from the ones they love". CLASSIC ABUSE!
ReplyDeleteYep @Frufra, neurologists say that the brain is not fully mature until around 25. And yet think of all the trouble "adults" can get into before then. (Witness my stepdaughter... oy... 22 next month, can't wait till her brain catches up! ha)
ReplyDeletewell maybe that age should be upped to 29 or 30
ReplyDeleteseems to be getting higher ever year
that so called age of maturity.......
she's a piece of work that one.....and I remember all of the press attention this was getting and people thinking she was abused-HA
Did that really happen this year? It seems like a long time ago.....
ReplyDeleteIf only her parents had bought land in the Sudan to make her a true princess.
ReplyDeleteWut?
Well, she is sure making some excellent decisions.
ReplyDeleteSay whatever you'd like, but 90% of all women are like this deep down... always the victim, always right, and screaming with a sense of entitlement.
ReplyDeleteSounds like she watches too many law dramas while growing up and thinks she has figured out the US legal system can help her in her personal life. Wouldn't believe a word out her mouth at this point.
ReplyDeleteOh Jordan, how I have missed thee.
ReplyDelete@Henriette: No, not his parents, her friend's dad, who has since gotten himself into hot water with the town he acted as attorney for, because of separate stuff.
ReplyDeleteI am happy to hear this bim is single now. Anyone know her twitter, so I can try to get some? She's a dunce w/ mental problems, so it shouldn't be too hard, and choking is on my No List, too.
This chick is a piece of work. Not exonerating the boyfriend, of course, but everything she accuses others of doing, I'm going to give side eye to until she can prove it. She's the worst. Also, I think she was fucking her friend's dad who was her lawyer when she was suing her parents.
ReplyDeleteI am not surprised at all by this
ReplyDeleteI thought she was fucking the dad too!!
At her age with 2 court cases already, as an employer I'd think twice about hiring her - I'd wonder if I'd be the target of her next lawsuit if she's not happy.
ReplyDeleteI thought she sounded like a spoiled brat, but still wondered if her parents were too strict and therefore wouldn't like any boyfriend. But now it sounds like they knew he was bad news.
ReplyDeleteSpoiled entitled brat. No sympathy.
ReplyDeleteWow, I can't imagine why anyone would want to choke her.
