This permanent A+ list mostly movie actor is being honored with a big award this fall, but wants to make sure that it does not turn into a roast. Just a tribute. The guy hates when people make fun of him and he has threatened to not show up if he hears it will be a roast.
Robert DeNiro (Friar's Club)
I'd certainly be too scare to make fun of him to his face.
ReplyDeleteWhat a sourpuss, it's not like he's had a scandelous past.
ReplyDeleteOh Bobby, lighten up and some to the stoner party.
ReplyDeletewell he is an awesome actor and has the right to call the shots
ReplyDeleteHey everyone!
ReplyDeleteI am kinda bummed about this reveal. I don't want to think of DeNiro as no fun...
and he was HOT when he was younger
ReplyDeleteHere you go, Derek! :)
DeleteI concur!!!
DeleteBut Pacino melts my butter better. (Used to get them mixed up. Used to!)
hey now!
Delete@VIP, Whoa there! Something for the fellas too. ;-)
DeleteYou talking to me? You talking to me!
ReplyDeleteDeNiro, with no script in front of him, is inarticulate and almost wooden. It's amazing how he can "turn it on" when using someone else's words.
ReplyDeleteIt's absolutely amazing. When interviewed, he's unable to disguise at all how uncomfortable he is. I wonder why he hasn't figured out yet how to fake it better.
Delete@VIP loll--
ReplyDeleteIt's totally idiot why accept to be honored at Friars Club if you don't want to be mocked
ReplyDeleteI liked Hollywood dime's blind about DeNiro better! Where you at girl? I hope DeNiro didn't ship you off to Belize for sharing that! ;)
ReplyDeleteWhat was H. Dime's blind? Bobby D. had a nice face, but those teeth.
DeleteDime reported that DeNiro has a handful of young mistresses. He puts them all up in a string of nice apartments, I can't recall which area, but if I recall correctly, some swanky NYC neighborhood. BUT the main kick was that Bobby D has a type: the fuglier, the better.
DeleteLove him!! And I totally understand. What fun is it sitting around watching and listening to others make fun of you. Id pass on that shit too.
ReplyDeleteI don't blame him, I am SHOCKED at how mean some of those roasts are!
ReplyDeleteIn comparison to some others, his past has been "normal".
ReplyDeleteExcept for his stupid involvement with the psycho-biatch Naomi Campbell
Hey, Bobby, if you frickin' retire already and stop pumping out absolute garbage, we won't roast you.
ReplyDeleteDeal?
No one makes fun of Bobby DeNiro.
ReplyDelete@NJFF. "Wooden" is interesting and good observation. As a female I chose to see him more as "quiet confidence" and / or "mysterious". Pfffft.
ReplyDeleteOT - my favorite steak place in the whole wide world is (was?) Arthur's. (Not in Hoboken but in _______(???)_. Near a train station. U know???
(Off to get coffee, then google)
I thought of asking Count, but I think he's So Jersey. I was thinking you were closer. IDK.
Grudge Match deserves all the roasting it gets
ReplyDeleteAnyone can tell he has no sense of humor, but I don't know if I could sit through a roast.
ReplyDeleteThere were Arthur's steakhouses in Hoboken, New Brunswick and Morris Plains. The Emerson location was near a train station, not sure about the others.
ReplyDeleteMorris Plains. THATS IT!! SIgh. We went often. Some people would wait out in tbe snow a table. We squeezed out way into the bar no matter what it took. $11.95 for huge tastey steak and potatoes roasted in tbe juices.
DeleteWell, if they're gone, I won't be Jonesin' for NJ.
But I will say Jersey is far more beautiful than people give credit. But then, we did have a service that plowed are driveway in tbe winters.
@Lotta - I own that shit on Blu-Ray. What? I'm a Bertolucci fan. Geez, you people.
ReplyDelete@JBE- I wouldn't expect anything less from you. Nice blog BTW.
DeleteDidn't he check Jay-Z once? Cause in that case I still like him.
ReplyDeleteHe's not wooden, he just doesn't like doing PR or dealing with the press. He's hosted SNL three times and they have satirized him, so he's not unwilling to be made fun of.
ReplyDelete(He is wooden as an SNL host though. Legendarily terrible.)
One of my profs in grad school directed him in a play. Said he was quite nice and professional, just on the quiet side. He can be very demanding about getting notes from the director though, but everyone knows that about him.
I concur on the "Just what do you think the Friar's Club is?" mentality. They're comedians! In exchange for being the butt of their jokes for an hour, they give you a prestigious award. And dinner.
ReplyDeleteJust don't show up, Bobby. Let someone with a sense of humor about themselves get the honor instead. What a baby.
Oh I think Bobby boy has the odd skeleton in his closet..

ReplyDelete@Sincerely,Your Friend - Pacino > DeNiro. Maybe not by a whole heck of a lot, but still. :-)
ReplyDeleteI hear ya!!
DeletePS. I've gotten to see Pacino out and about, doing Daddy duty n stuff. He comes up to my bewbs but I STILL WOULD!
I don't picture Bobby to be tooooo much taller than Al.
But who cares?
Pacino has been a scenery-chewer for the last couple of decades. He's lost most of his ability to underplay scenes. During the Godfather days they were comparable, but for quite a while it's been DeNiro better by leagues.
ReplyDeleteBobby D is extremely shy.
ReplyDelete@Lady H.
ReplyDeleteThey are more appreciative...
No, DeNiro's type is well-known. He likes model-tall, pretty black women. He might have a string of jump-offs stashed around, but they'll be pretty and black.
ReplyDeleteI have privileges at the Friar's Club. Trust me, it's a roast. If they were honoring him, then it would be at The Player's Club in NYC.
ReplyDeleteThank you Lotta.
ReplyDeleteWriterGirl, From what I've observed, Robert enjoys a little ribbing as long as it's in the Billy Crystal/Robin Williams style but if you're talking actual Roast grilling, I have a feeling there could be some Max Cady shit going down.
I love De Niro. But you'd think after being in Hollywood all this time etc that his hide would have toughened up a bit? Geez.
ReplyDeleteFriar's Club agreed = a roast. He'd better get his big boy panties on.
The Friars club have two basic events- their comedy roasts and this honorary award. They are separate and distinct. He is being honored with the Friars Club Entertainment Icon award. Past honorees are Frank Sinantra, Cary Grant, Douglas Fairbanks, and apparently Tom Cruise. I'm sure they would like to give him a roast and not sure why he wouldn't want that honor also but he has accepted the Icon award. A Friars clud roast is not like the raunchy comedy central roasts.
ReplyDeleteHey Bobby, Not to worry, the king of roasting is no longer with us.
ReplyDeleteRIP Greg.
I think when you get to a certain age you're allowed to say no thank you!
