This actress was probably B list back in the day but she married into an A++ list Hollywood family. Traces of that A list family are everywhere still today throughout Beverly Hills and portions of their life are tour stops for the buses. Anyway, this actress caught her husband cheating on her for the millionth time and already had a life threatening STD she caught from him. They got into a fight and he poisoned her. He paid off police and walked away with nothing but his infected peen and a new girlfriend a few days later.
Olive Thomas/Jack Pickford
Olive Thomas is a totally new name to me.
ReplyDeleteMe too, sandybrook.
ReplyDeletedon't know em cause I am not 100 but men can be pigs---makes Terry Richard look like Maya Angelou
ReplyDeleteA couple of people actually got it--congrats VeraL and my girl Rangers Girl!
ReplyDeleteHe was Mary Pickford's younger brother.
ReplyDeleteThey were in Paris & she drank his syphillis medication. The label was in french, officially they think she thought it was alcohol.
Jeebus! That's a big one
ReplyDeleteMehh.
ReplyDeleteHe also beat the wives he had after her death.
ReplyDeleteI think Ill go mosey over to wikipedia and read about her and whether she was poisoned by him or not.
ReplyDelete@vera crushed it!!!!
ReplyDeleteGood job woman
Seems to have been a self induced death by accidental poisoning Enty.
ReplyDelete"Hollywood Babylon" retread
ReplyDeleteYep, just what I was thinking, this was in "Hollywood Babylon".
ReplyDeleteShe had also been a model/ziegfeld girl before becoming a Hollywood actress. They were known for their partying & fighting. Apparently rumors of how she really did ruined his career, so not really a blind.
Didn't know this and loved it. Thanks, enty!
ReplyDeleteOr ent lawyer. Sounds like I should get Hollywood Babylon.
DeleteWow..Olive was beautiful and so different looking for that time era ..Gorgeous . Jack was a pig . Poor thing .I had never heard this before .Thanx
ReplyDeleteAFTERNOON, everyone. Derek, I'm not 100 but I do have a thing for old Hollywood.
ReplyDelete100....harrumf!
from wiki..On September 10, 1920, Thomas died of acute nephritis in Paris five days after consuming mercury bichloride. Although her death was ruled accidental, news of the incident and Thomas' subsequent death were the subject of media speculation. Thomas' death has been cited as one of the first heavily publicized Hollywood scandals.
ReplyDeleteOh and PIECE OF SHIT he is!!
ReplyDeleteChronic Syphilis
ReplyDeleteI googled her. She was beautiful. Interesting that her facial features, untouched by surgery, are different than what is considered desirable in our time. Like her mouth-- it's tiny, looks like a perfect little bow. And her face seems very soft and full. Nowadays makeup, dieting, and surgery create more angles and contours.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, this was an interesting blind, it's kind of cool to learn about old Hollywood.
TCM shows one of her surviving films called "The Flapper" every now and again. She was very lovely and talented, which her husband was not.
ReplyDeleteMany film critics would disagree, Jennmcn. Jack was an ass, promiscuous sbd cruel, but he was talented. O love Olive, and The Flapper showed she was a good comedienne, but then and now she was known more for her beauty than her talent.
DeleteI know right Mary ..she was lush ? is that the right word?
ReplyDeleteI knew about her but never heard this story. I always thought she committed suicide. Interesting!
ReplyDeleteHere's a good article about her: http://www1.assumption.edu/ahc/1920s/Olive%20Thomas/
Cool ..thanx Lioness ..off to read
ReplyDeleteThis can't have been a blind, even Wikipedia details her poisoning and the associated scandal for goodness sake.
ReplyDeleteNever heard of her and didn't know Mary Pickford had a brother. Interesting story.
ReplyDelete@Mary S-Even looking at syndicated shows from the 70's and 80's like Charlie's Angels or any of the cop/detective/mystery shows, the women are beautiful but would be considered chunky today. The women aren't botoxed and they are thin but not overly toned.
ReplyDeleteI saw a Marie Osmond ad recently and she looked like the lost Kardashian. The hair, makeup, and bronzer were copied from Kim.
And yeah, this was in Holywood Babylon.
Holy shit!! Guess it was easier to do in old days without forensics and internet pics.
ReplyDeleteAnd i never get poisoning someone. There is no one, save hitler( which is moot as he's dead) that i wld poison.
Zach,
ReplyDeleteHollywood Babylon is mostly fiction. It is entertaining. But I would read it as a starting off point to old Hollywood gossip. If you read a story and find it interesting do some googling to find out the real story.
Here is an example:
ReplyDeletehttp://willmckinley.wordpress.com/2012/09/24/new-book-on-lupe-velez-debunks-the-myths-of-hollywood-babylon/
Olive Thomas was really lovely to look at, even by today's vastly different standards.
ReplyDeleteI see someone's been reading ancient Hollywood gossip books again... Nobody knows how Olive Thomas really died and I'd be seriously surprised if whoever writes these "blinds" had any new information. Please just stop with these pathetic Wikipedia blind items.
ReplyDeleteRIP "The most beautiful girl in the world"
ReplyDeleteI love Olive Thomas! It would be really tough for Jack Pickford to make her injest that much mercury by force, though. She probably committed suicide impulsively after some drunken partying in Paris. Rumors that he poisoned her have been around since the incident in 1920, and they were nonsense then and nonsense today. He was no saint, and he did have syphilis, but no evidence he was a killer.
ReplyDeleteYes, but it makes a great story!!!! Dont let facts ruin the tale, lol
