Blind Item #7

This closeted A list just about everything he touches never runs any errands for himself. None. A few weeks ago though he was driving himself which is also rare and stopped at a Starbucks and fell in lust with a guy working there. Our A lister now makes a Starbucks run several times a day just to talk to the guy.

    2. Wow. Where do I even begin with this?

      1. You may not be aware of this, Derek, but a single member of any given race sharing their PERSONAL opinion(s) about something does not make them a representative of an entire ethnicity or the likes/dislikes of those therein. The fact that you felt that adding the fact that your "friend is black" makes this post any more legitimate is even more absurd.

And 2. "The blacks"? Seriously?!? Wow. This has to be some of the most ignorant and bigoted nonsense that I have seen lately and that's saying something. Were you also keeping track of what types of drinks that all Asian, Hispanic, and Caucasian customers "only" ordered? What a world...

Hell yes I am and will always be a bitch in the face of ignorance! Maybe take the time to actually read a person's response all the way through before responding. Particularly before responding so aggressively. No need to resort to calling names.

  30. @PJ - I didn't read his saying his friend is black as anything more than trying to point out that this opinion is not coming from a white guy opining about blacks. It appeared to me to be a light hearted comment that his black lady friend was making. Why are you reading so deeply into it and taking it so personally?

  33. thanks el80ne---that sums it up nicely are more intelligently than I did----
Also - I acknowledge saying "the blacks" sounds old fashioned and like a racist grandpa or something but is it really racist? I mean if a black person owned a restaurant and the customers were mostly black and the owner says something like "well when the whites come in they like their coffee" is that racist? Don't think so.
Also---of course that reader is going to notice what different ethnicities order if she works at Starbucks--she has eyes and a brain and if it is the readers experience that the black people that went to her location like fraps that is an observation--
are we 10 years old now and claiming to be "color blind" to all people?!!?

    ReplyDelete
  34. It's called CULTURE. Those of us who have kids know that at some point during every school year, our munchkins have to do some stupid "culture" project, when they bring in something reflecting their "culture." There is nothing wrong with acknowledging that there are differences between ethnicities, races, sexes, etc! Some people like to only recognize and embrace the "beautiful" parts of culture, like the silk saris from India, silver jewelry from Mexico, etc., but cultures are funny, people! American culture is known around the globe as hot dogs, hamburgers and apple pies, among other things. Does that mean we all like those things? Of course not, but those things are very much a part of our culture. Stereotypes also exist for a reason. People didn't make up the "Oh. My. GAWD." accent for white girls for no reason, just like the writers on SNL didn't pull the whole "Oh, yeah…pass the Hennessy" skit out of their asses. More whites like certain things, just like more blacks like certain things. For crying out loud, people. If our kids are encouraged to embrace cultural differences, why can't we?

the funny thing was when I (or rather we) made the joke about black people not loving Starbucks like white people I JUST KNEW someone was going to get uppity over it---------
I just don't like when readers preach at people for stating something in a manner that they would not. I am all for freedom of speech but don't go around lecturing people and acting like a school marm...its like that transgender situation where people were bitching about the ed at the end---when it is not offensive at all---and it was not even trans people "educating" us common folk---anyways backing away from the computer---have a good night everyone xo

  47. Maybe Starbucks is better in the US - I tried it in a couple countries in my region when it was all 'ohhh, that American Starbucks thing is here - wow!' and it tasted awful.

Worst one - I asked for a macchiato (ie, should come in an espresso glass) and it came in a milkshake cup with some caramel rubbish latticed over the top. Shudder. And it was not billed as a 'long,' that's just how they roll.

Hey Astro! Good weather, eh! I feel good about Starbucks not making it here (or even in NZ). The best was when I lived in Newtown, and the Maccas closed. Thus the locals spaketh!
