I would kill for a Dunkin' Doughnuts to open up here. Sigh, guess I'll have to make due with our fantastic coffee shacks and not-so-fantastic Safeway doughnuts.
Cleo, thats so funny because since my hubby and i moved to NE, there are Dunkin's on every corner. Literally. Starbucks has no chance here! Tim hortons went outta business. There is ONE starbucks in whole town I live in, wait, 2, one is inside supermarket. So weird. And i dont even drink ciffee! Lol
Oh, and enty, you wld die and go to heaven, there is famiky business that makes donuts and the make a DONUT CAKE!!!!! It is to die for! You have to buy two, it goes so fast! And no leftovers ever!!
I'm in the land of D&D's but wish we had crispy cream around here.
One of my favorite memories of staying at the Luxor in Vegas was that you could order your donut at Crispy Cream & watch it get made from start to finish.
Okay, proper post up for next book club suggestions! Also movie suggestions! I put yours in there and the date June 29. Hopefully that will work for everyone
TTM - If you ever have a chance to get Krispy Kreme, make sure it's at one of their stores and was just made. You can sometimes find them in supermarkets and they're good there -- but if you start with those, you won't understand why people like them so much.
Writergirl, nice to find another Spudnuts fan! There's one about 2 miles from my house and the best thing ever is when I'm driving by and see the "fresh out of the oven" sign switch on. Naturally, I end up making a u-turn so I can go in and grab a dozen. (Does that make me sound fat? lol) I love them and Peace, Love, & Little Donuts (maple bacon donuts and cherry cheesecake donuts FTW!)
I just got a hot fresh dozen of Krispy Kreme this morning and I just put the extra next to me on sofa for after I check in on what's new here. Haha. Jinx.
Krispy Kremes opened a stall in the city near to me. So much excitement only to end up so disappointed. Sainsbury's jammy doughnuts are far superior and cost £1 for 5. Result.
I'm originally from Boston, so I grew up on dunkin donuts. Once you have dunkin...absolutely nothing else can compare. Peet's coffee does though. Love Peet's coffee. Starbucks iced mocha latte is pretty good too.
I read that first as coconuts and I was confused as shit. My ex used to call Krispy Kreme crappy Cromb doorknobs. Many a nite would we would leave the bar the double door and drive past Krispy Kreme on Independence Boulevard and see the fresh donuts now sign. There was always a stop. I don't care for them at all anymore.
@Sherry the Krispy Kreme on Independence near Matthews? Went there with friends late one night and there were two women there that brought a pint of vanilla Haagen Dazs and were scooping it out and making glazed doughnut ice cream sandwiches. Just watching that one go down made one of my friends sing the Jay and Silent Bob rap part that goes "Smokin' weed, weed, weed".
I don't even know what a Cronut is :( but there is this place that makes a butterfinger donut, it's kind of magical how it melts in my mouth and finds it's way to my hips.
TTM-when you come to booze it up in FL with me I will introduce you to the only KK that matters in this world. And it's even better when the light is on.
Nobobdy has anything on the place that was a street over from my high school. They had one donut but I just can't recall the name of at the moment that me and the rest of the rifle team would get every morning after practice (We had to get there at 6:30am and practiced until the start of school at 8:10, since we had to be there so early our first period teachers let us come in about 8:45 so we could get some breakfast). They were chocolate donuts but instead of bein round, they were more like fritters, just huge, about 6 inches long and about 4 inches wide. Theyh then added chocolate glaze, whipped cream and cherry's on top. We could get those and a soda or milk for less than a buck (when we had to pay, they knew we were in JROTC and were getting doe with practice so most of the time, they just had orders ready for us and just gave them to us when we walked in)
The same bakery made cakes and got our addresses from the school and delivered to all of us seniors on graduation day where the cakes all said "Thank you for your years of friendship! Congrats and best luck for your bright futures!" along with a dozen of the donuts we got every morning. Meant a lot to us and got my brother hooked on those donuts for when he went to the same school lol
@derek...yeah same in Vancouver. There used to be a few donut chains around but Tim Horton's came along and everything else is gone. There is a Krispy Kreme somewhere in the Lower Mainland, but I haven't seen it yet. And what exactly is a cronut?
Sainsbury 5 £1 jammies rock. I have a theory that you could leave a KK donut on a shelf for a month, and it'd look exactly the same. That's not a good thing.
@Alita it is a cross between a croissant and a donut, I had one in a bakery in Bathurst strangely enough and it was amaze. Adriano Zumbo also does one but the pretentious little git calls them 'Zonuts'!
I lived on Tim Hortons when I backpacked around Canadia....I was alllll about the Tim Bits....not so much the coffee...
TTM I've been to Krispie Kreme in Calgary (that's where you are, right?). Whatevs. Take a Timmy's honey dip and stick it in the microwave for a few seconds.
Y'all need to come south and get some donuts at Shipley's. Yum yum! We have a local place right by us that is extraordinary - I'm pretty sure no one needs to be quite that close to a donut place, but dang if they're not good!
@TTM--Robins sounds familiar, but I don't think I ever went into one. About two years ago Timmys started changing their cup sizes and the coffee went down hill. The last time I had a cup of coffee there it tasted like water.
Don't get the Krispy Kreme thing aTall! It's a fresh, plain glazed donut. Give me a mom n pop Apple Fritter or Chocolate Buttermilk any day. ACTUALLY, donuts are on my "never eat" list. And Chimechangas. Of coarse Bacon is a Hell yeah!
I would kill for a Dunkin' Doughnuts to open up here. Sigh, guess I'll have to make due with our fantastic coffee shacks and not-so-fantastic Safeway doughnuts.

DeleteYes but are they as good as the ones here in NYC?
ReplyDeleteEveryone knows the really good cronuts cost $5-6. Silly enty.
ReplyDeleteI'm in the land of D&D's but wish we had crispy cream around here.
ReplyDeleteOne of my favorite memories of staying at the Luxor in Vegas was that you could order your donut at Crispy Cream & watch it get made from start to finish.
In Canada we have mostly Tim Hortons and its awful
ReplyDeleteI'm a Tim's Girl, and I can't deny it! Where would I be without it! We have DD, I never go!
DeleteCrispy Cremes never did it for me. But the fresh donuts from the place on the corner were awesome. I hope the new place going in is as good.
ReplyDeleteStill haven't tried.
ReplyDeleteKrispy Kreme ain't got nothing on Spudnuts. Donuts made from a potato batter. Best. Donuts. Ever!!!!!
ReplyDeleteSo, your Spudbuts comment has brought me out from lurking. Best donuts ever is right. Crazy that someone else here has Charlottesville ties.
DeleteI used to love krispy
ReplyDeleteI thought there was a patent on the cronut???
ReplyDeleteI don't even remember the last time I had a donut! But I've heard so much about Krispy Kreme that I would totally have to
ReplyDeleteAlso, we need more suggestions for book club for next meet,, although it seems like most of what we did was drink and talk shite.
What about the book, "Holes" it's actually pretty awesome!
DeleteI will add it, Melissa! Hope to see you there!
DeleteTTM, Let's do "The Fault is in our stars".
ReplyDeleteI'll put it on the voting list, Cleo! I should put up a proper post I guess
DeleteOkay, proper post up for next book club suggestions! Also movie suggestions! I put yours in there and the date June 29. Hopefully that will work for everyone
DeleteI am waay too fat to be reading about no $2 cronuts, quit it!!!
ReplyDeleteMr. Cruz, the last thing you are is fat, Mr. Man!
DeleteYou wouldn't be saying that if you saw me in my swimsuit ;)

ReplyDeleteI think I would have to travel for that, Zeeky. Krispy Kreme and Macy's: one day!

ReplyDeleteAre we still talking donuts, Dirty Bird? Or are we kidnapping hot dudes again?? Either way, I'm THERE!
DeleteBWAHAHA!! Krispy Kreme has a Hot Now sign they light up.
DeleteAs for kidnapping the hot dudes, what happens in the Red Room stays in the Red Room. Plus you can't kidnap the willing;)

Somebody clue me in, please. What is a cronut?
ReplyDeleteRocket Donuts in Bellingham, WA.
ReplyDeleteMaple Bacon Bar.
Mag's in OC sells a maple bacon cronut that you can have cream filled or not for $3.75. Tis delish.
ReplyDeleteIf I ever pay more than 2 bucks for a goddam doughnut (sp) with makeup, the next thing I will do is asking someone to punch me.
ReplyDelete@derek...yeah same in Vancouver. There used to be a few donut chains around but Tim Horton's came along and everything else is gone. There is a Krispy Kreme somewhere in the Lower Mainland, but I haven't seen it yet. And what exactly is a cronut?
ReplyDeleteRemember Robin's doughnuts, audrey?? Those were all over BC when I was growing up
DeleteIf you are even in Bridgeport, PA - Suzy-Jo's IS THE BEST!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteSainsbury 5 £1 jammies rock. I have a theory that you could leave a KK donut on a shelf for a month, and it'd look exactly the same. That's not a good thing.

ReplyDeleteI am NOT in Calgary, CeeKay. Tsk, tsk, as an Edmontonian I expect better
DeleteAlso, if everybody hates Tim Horton's so much WHY IS THERE ALWAYS A LINEUP?
ReplyDeleteY'all need to come south and get some donuts at Shipley's. Yum yum! We have a local place right by us that is extraordinary - I'm pretty sure no one needs to be quite that close to a donut place, but dang if they're not good!

ReplyDelete@audrey maybe the water they used there was depressed and needed a talking too from princess gwennith
ReplyDeleteLMAO @sugarbread maker.
ReplyDeleteaudrey.. glad you got that
ReplyDeleteChuck's Maple Bars.
ReplyDeleteEnough said.
Don't get the Krispy Kreme thing aTall!
ReplyDeleteIt's a fresh, plain glazed donut.
Give me a mom n pop Apple Fritter or Chocolate Buttermilk any day. ACTUALLY, donuts are on my "never eat" list. And Chimechangas. Of coarse Bacon is a Hell yeah!
