Old Hollywood: Which foreign-born Olympian turned Hollywood girl next
door initially worried studio execs when she was signed to a
long-term contract because she and her family were close associates to
several high ranking Nazis, including Hitler himself?

Old Hollywood: Which A++ list Oscar winning/nominated actor who was a
struggling B for the first half of the 1930s cheated on his first wife
with her best friend, an A/B-list Oscar winning actress who had the
public image of a goody two shoes?
Idk. I'm not THAT old...
ReplyDeleteWhat.ever
ReplyDeleteThat was not at you, TNC
Delete*sniffling*... Oh. Okay....
DeleteSonya Hening for Olympian turned actress.
ReplyDeleteSonia Henie for the Olympian.
ReplyDeleteBrando / Doris Day

ReplyDeleteHow is this a blind item? Sonja Henie's Nazi connections are on her wikipedia page.
ReplyDelete*Henie
ReplyDeleteSonja Henie (April 8, 1912 – October 12, 1969) was a Norwegian figure skater and film star. She was a three-time Olympic Champion (1928, 1932, 1936) in Ladies Singles, a ten-time World Champion (1927–1936) and a six-time European Champion (1931–1936). Henie won more Olympic and World titles than any other ladies figure skater. At the height of her acting career she was one of the highest paid stars in Hollywood.
ReplyDeleteSonja Henning
ReplyDeleteClark Gable/Loretta Young
If we stop commenting on Mr X's Not!Blinds will they stop appearing?
ReplyDeleteI scrolled down to say the same thing. I'm commenting just to say, don't comment on these! But now...
DeleteIf I got this blind first than they are waaaaay too easy.
ReplyDeleteLOL.
Sonja Henie's tutu! (I couldn't resist - I miss car talk!)
ReplyDeleteshopgirl, if no one had said that, I was going to have to!
DeleteI miss car talk too.
Sonya Henie?
ReplyDeleteClark Gable
ReplyDeleteMaria Franklin Prentiss Lucas Langham
Loretta Young
Five? FIVE???
ReplyDeleteOkay my guesses are what was said above by anyone else. But I'm going to brush my teeth. This is me in a snit. Hmph!
Forget the Old Hollywood crap. Got any dirt from the American Revolution? Dead people can't sue, why the blinding of items?
ReplyDeleteI love old Hollywood blinds in general. But not these specically.
ReplyDeleteThe drunken punch filled brawls between Ava Gardner and Frank Sinatra make most of current stuff look tame.
.....waiting for the next post .... I find It's true, a watched pot never boils!
ReplyDeleteDo one, Mr X.
ReplyDelete12) marlon Brando his wife Movite and
ReplyDeleteDebbie Reynolds
Esther Williams
ReplyDeleteI don't care how goody two shoes you are, if a young marlon Brando or Clark cable came a calling, you'd just have to answer that siren song,,,,
ReplyDeleteI hate to be that guy, but Marlon Brando?! He was six years old in 1930 and his first acting appearance (on TV) was in '49, so...
ReplyDeleteClark Gable might work, but his struggling was actually in the '20s -- we're talking REALLY Old Hollywood! -- so I don't know about him, either.
Some of these Old Hollywood "reveals" are so easily solvable by using IMDb or Wikipedia, or they're pretty much common knowledge. That's just not much fun. Just saying.
That said, I'd love some good Old Hollywood reveals, and since most of those folks are gone now anyway, why can't we have 'em?!
i'm old so i like the old hollywood blinds. i think it's gable/young. she did have the goody two shoes reputation but didn't she have a child with him as a result of their affair?
ReplyDeleteThe best friend got pregnant and HAD the baby? Damn that is scandalous. I'm going to google!!!
DeleteYeah, Young/Gable. Wasn't the child named "Judy", & had his (XL) ears? I think she ended up writing a book. A friend of mine was born in the 40s, famous parents & famous stepfather. His memories and anecdotes are incredible, & he has NOTHING nice to say about Loretta Young. Nothing.
Delete@veee It's not much of a blind. I think it's geared towards the young'uns who maybe haven't heard of that scandal yet. You know, those kids who also don't know where the "In like Flynn" saying came from.
ReplyDelete#2 - Clark Gable...first wife Josephine Dillon
ReplyDelete#2 gotta be John Wayne. He was in cheapo westerns in the 30s. Don't remember who the gal is.
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDelete11 - Sonja Henie
ReplyDelete12 - Humphrey Bogart, wife Mayo Methot.
I dont mind Mr X.
ReplyDelete11. Sonja Henie
ReplyDelete12. Spencer Tracey and Loretta Young
I was surprised people were guessing Brando since he was too young in the 30's.
ReplyDeleteOtherwise I'm with what everyone else has said. Some of these are pretty common knowledge. My first thought was Esther Williams for #1 but a quick trip to Wiki solved that.
11 = Sonja Henie
ReplyDelete12 - I'm going with Dick Powell, Joan Blondell as the wife, and June Allyson as the friend. But I think Blondell hated Allyson, whom she says was a hooker back East despite her goody-goody image, so I could be wrong. Or she might have hated her after she found out about the cheating.
Never mind, no Oscar for June Allyson.
ReplyDeleteSonia Hening was a Liberache beard. How'd that happen?
ReplyDeleteHenie, Gable is correct.
ReplyDeleteJesus Christ some of these guesses are bad, Brando only was born in '24.
Topper got it.I always wondered how the very devout Catholic Loretta Young slept at night. Obviously on a mountain is cash. She had a very long run in Hollywood.

ReplyDeleteAgree -
ReplyDeleteHenie,
Gable, second wife, Loretta Young.
Yes, Sonia Henie, the "love of Liberace's life" according to Lee Liberace.
ReplyDeleteThe Gable/Young is probably the best answer for #2 but Gable only struggled until 1931. That's when he hit it big opposite some of M-G-M's biggest female stars -- Joan Crawford, Greta Garbo, Jean Harlow and Norma Shearer.
ReplyDeleteNumber 1 is Sonja Henie
