This is so sad for me. I loved Designing Women and it's reruns so it was always on in my house throughout the 80-90s and now recently. Mesach was wonderful amist all those strong women, may he RIP.
This saddens my heart. Meshach Taylor was awesome. "Hollywooooood" was hilarious and how can anyone not love his character, Anthony on Designing Women. /long sigh.... RIP Meshach Taylor. You will be missed.
I remember the song from Mannequin ---something about "Nooothins gonna stop us nowwww". Question: Did he play a gay man on Designing Women--as in actually had male relationships etc? Cause there was not much of that on tv in the 80s...
Last night twitter said he was on his deathbed and fading fast. I didn't think it would be this fast :( it was cancer but I don't remember which kind. Fuck cancer.
FWIW and not that it matters but he was married and had 4 children. Married since the 80s. Prayers for his family. If it was cancer, such a horrible way to go but he's not suffering now.
I was so saddened to hear this news this morning. I've watched quite a bit of "Designing Women" lately -- thanks, LOGO! -- and my brother and I were just talking about MANNEQUIN yesterday. Safe travels, Mr. Taylor.
Meshach Taylor was about the only thing I liked about Designing Women. Those smug, verbose speeches that Julia Sugarbaker gave every episode were cringeworthy.
When I read this on Dlisted this morning, it was like a punch in the gut. I wasn't a "fan" of his per se, but I loved Designing Woman when I was growing up, and loved his character in it, so it feels like I have just lost someone I actually knew.
I read something last night that his family stated on his Facebook or somewhere that he hasn't died but he was on his death bed. If it is true, RIP Meshach! We all loved you in Mannequin.
I saw him at the movies in Pasadena during the Designing Women run. I was shocked that he was with a woman. He was very sweet to the people who fanned him.
Frist?
ReplyDeleteAnd that's terrible, btw. RIP. :(
ReplyDeleteWasn't he in that cinematic masterpiece, Mannequin? My childhood weeps.
ReplyDeleteYes, he was Hollywood, the gay window designer in Mannequin. Sad, I liked him on designing women. RIP, sweetie. (SO watching Mannequin today)

RIP. Thanks for the wonderful laughs you gave us. You will be missed.
ReplyDeleteFirst thought that came to mind was seeing Mannequin 2: On the Move on an airplane. That memory aside, I hope he rests in peace, he was a funny guy.
