Martha Hyer Has Died
Martha Hyer, one of the last studio glamour girls of the Golden Age of Hollywood has died. She once turned down a date request from the young Sen. John F. Kennedy, Hyer was nominated for an Academy Award as best supporting actress for her work in 1958’s Some Came Running. She also starred in Sabrina as William Holden's fiancĂ©e She was 89.
She was gorgeous in Sabrina. RIP
ReplyDeleteI love Sabrina (original. Willi Holden - grrrrr.
DeleteShe's pretty but that dress needs a little lift in the boobage.
ReplyDeleteAwe :( RIP. Sabrina (the original and the remake) was one of my favorites. They just don't make actresses the way they used too.
ReplyDelete+ yes my dear
DeleteI thought that was a picture of Grace Kelly at first! Martha was gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteIt reads like she played the sabrina role at 89, lol. Rip.
ReplyDeleteRIP LOve the original Sabrina!! What a beauty!!
ReplyDeleteI original Sabrina was wonderful (as was Martha.) The less said about the remake, the better.
ReplyDeleteShe married Hal Wallis…she was no fool
ReplyDeleteThere were plenty of downfalls but there was also a lot to recommend about the studio system. People were groomed. It held a lot of glamour.
ReplyDeleteI try not to romanticise the studio years because I know too much about how tyrannical it really was, but it's always terribly sad every time we lose someone who was one of the few remaining links to that era.
ReplyDeleteRIP Martha. You were a beauty.
ReplyDeleteI read this interesting article about Martha this morning.

Sad.
ReplyDeleteRIP.
She was lovely.
ReplyDeleteNot only was she a classic beauty, but she was a good actress too.
ReplyDeleteI always thought she was so beautiful. RIP Martha.
ReplyDeleteShe also appeared in the wonderful 1959 movie The Best of Everything with Hope Lange, Diane Baker, Suzy Parker and Joan Crawford (who stole the picture from her younger co-stars.)
ReplyDeleteI think the studio system cut both ways. The studios infantilized the stars but they also protected them from scandal and had a vested interest in developing careers. Now, stars lurch from picture-to-picture and scandal-to-scandal.
@Abbies the database of remaining studio era major or mid level players is into the hundreds actually.
ReplyDeleteShe's classic - absolute stunner.
ReplyDeleteWish there were more of this...

She looks like Grace Kelly in that pic.
ReplyDelete....ya ya ya, well it's sad and my condolences. But...did she cheat with any married A listers
ReplyDelete@Sincerely
ReplyDelete...But...so did 90% of Hollywood in that era. Most especially the people famous for their "fantastic", "devoted" marriages.
