Fault In Our Stars Breaks Box Office Record

The movie Fault In Our Stars has not even opened yet, but it already holds one box office record. According to Fandango, the movie has become the number one biggest pre-selling romantic drama in the service's history. This doesn't mean the movie will be super huge because the previous record holders include The Vow, Safe Haven and Dear John. It is a nice little publicity boost though because now everyone will write a little piece about the record and people who were on the fence about going or didn't know about the movie might end up seeing it. The Vow did open to $41M in its first weekend. One thing Fandango made clear though is that the Twilight franchise is not included in the romantic drama category. Aren't you glad they aren't making any more of those movies? Well, not for awhile anyway. They will end up making some based on scripts rather than the books. Fandango says Twilight is classified as a fantasy romance. That category sounds like something Lindsay Lohan charges extra for.

    and so? Twilight was one of the biggest opening movies of all time and Gangham Style was one of the most popular songs. Just because something is popular does not make it good. I am tired of all the movies at my local Cineplex being Action movies with no plot, kids animated or Tween crap like this....

    I saw the film at a screening in May 28th. It wasn't nearly as emotionally manipulative or cheesy as I thought it would be. It was actually really good.

      @JSierra this was me and my sister opening night of A Walk To Remember. Still not ashamed, that movie and book were the only good things Nicolas Sparks did (IMO).

    Blerg. I am a women who hates "romantic dramas" with a passion. I'll never forget when I made that discovery - went to see Dirty Dancing when it came out, and I was the only girl in the theater who wasn't crying and cheering at the end. I'm a nice person, I swear, but this genre makes me stabby!

      Very, very rarely do I cry during these types of movies but for some reason even the previews get me teary so I'm preparing myself for a tear or two. The Notebook is actually the only romdram I have cried during, not counting Titanic but I had just started puberty so I don't think that counts.

      Fru fru- english patient was awful, i didnt care about the charactors at all. Mr liddy almost cried thru the notebook, and swore a promised he would do the same for me if i ever go off the rails. Meanwhile im thinking, yeah, you're going in a home buddy, lol

And geez, I always get irritated at those movies where the people have known each other like 12 hours, but it's hopeless true luv 4 ever. EYEROLL.

    I'll be dragged by my 14year old daughter to see this. She loved the book.

    @JSierra OMG the Notebook.. reduced me to total snot flinging, air gulping ugly crying. I totally freaked out the kids with my loud crying.

    Okay if anyone wants to see a good cry your eyes out movie (Even you Frufra would love this one, I promise!)

    Find "My Life Without Me". trust me on this.

    I think I should have been born with a penis. I've never seen ANY of the movies y'all listed above, nor read the books, and just reading about them makes me squirm. I can't do romance or emotional stuff. Obviously I didn't get hugged enough as a child.

    I am enjoying the book, didn't even know a movie was made. I will definitely not see the movie, I don't like "Afternoon Special" movies, anyone remember those?

    @Frufra - I thought I was the only one who didn't like Dirty Dancing. I never understood why every one of my friends went crazy over it.

    I did cry at Titanic though. Saw it like three times in the theatre and cried through the credits.

    I hate romantic movies. I hate drams. I like horror movies. I don't think it's a question of being male or female. It's just what you like. I do wish Hollywood would stop acting like women only want to see weepy dramatic shit though.

    Shame this looks like a hit because I loathe Shailene "i'm not a feminist cuz I like men, LOL" Woodley, what a fucking idiot.

    I'm not huge on teen literature either but an older lady recommended it to me. She reads a LOT so I figured if she liked it it must be good and it was. I thought it was fantastic. I especially love the parts about Peter Van Houton and his book An Imperial Affliction. Casting Willem DaFoe as Van Houton was genius. I can't wait to see the movie! And yes, my 13 year-old niece and all her friends are off their little rails over it.

    I generally do not like "teen lit", but a 17 year-old client of mine, who is extremely intelligent and well-read, kind of dared me to read it and not like it. She was right-it's a great story. I most certainly did not tell her about the ugly cry that erupted out of me while reading it.
