ReplyDeleteLead Actor in a drama--Billy Miller-- got fired, his replacement didn't even last 2 months and Billy replaced him in the role way back when.

ReplyDeleteThere's three soaps left now :-( Nice to see OLTL get some final awards but sadly I don't think any one watches or cares about these awards anymore. I remember being a kid and all the soap stars would get super dressed up and Lucci would get nominated yet not win.
At least my GH is still hanging on.
Sorry I missed book club TTM. Had out of town family visiting.

ReplyDeleteI don't watch the soaps anymore, but one of my former clients was an Emmy winner, he was a long standing director for for one of them. All the women were constantly asking about this person or that person. He was a sweetie.
GH has sucked ever since Sonny became the lead character and it became a crime drama instead of a hospital drama about the Hardy Family. And the Quatermaines.

ReplyDeleteBilly Miller was not fired. Y&R did everything they could to get him to stay. Billy wanted to leave. Heather Tom should have won Best Actress, but I guess that can't let her win every year.

So happy Katie's show was cancelled too. AMC & OLTL got cancelled for that craptastic show & The Chew.
Both of those soaps were institutions and gave the start to many famous movie stars. I'm kinda young to be a soap fan but grew up watching with my mom who was a life long fan of all 3 ABC Soaps.
So sad seeing the downfall of American soaps.

ReplyDelete@cat wrong, Billy Miller wanted to stay and wanted the same contract he had. Outs to do other work. JFP wouldn't allow him time to work on other projects so he was forced to leave.

@timebob I guess I see it a little different. He was offered a contract, a contract he did not want to sign. So he did not sign and it was he choice. He was terrific as Billy, but the days of getting everything you want on in Daytime contracts is over. Daytime dramas are a dying breed. And American soaps are now dying overseas, because of the internet. With so many Soap actors out of work, most actors are easily replaced. And yes JFP will kill thing she touches.

Billy's replacement is already out the door. "Y&R recasts Billy Abbott. The Young and the Restless has recast the role of Billy Abbott. In the space of less than a year, we have seen the role go from Billy Miller to David Tom (who originated the role as an adult), now only to be replaced with Burgess Jenkins."

ReplyDelete@Kat I didn't know that. I honestly thought they're are three left with ABC canceling AMC & OLTL. TBH actually only watched the ABC soaps. I've never seen the ones on the other channels.
