Dave Coulier Says "You Oughta Know" Isn't About Him After Saying It Was

I don't know why Dave Coulier is changing his story after all these years but he is insisting that the Alanis Morissette song You Oughta Know isn't about him. Where did this come from? He has always admitted it is him and now suddenly he doesn't want it to be him because he says the guy in the song is an a-hole and Dave claims he is not an a-hole. Way back in 2008 he said that he hated hearing his breakup all over the radio in song version. Never date Taylor Swift then. In the same interview he said that when he listened to the songs he realized how much he hurt Alanis. In his latest version of events he says that he told the media he was the subject because he got tired of being asked about it so just admitted to it. So, he wanted to be the a-hole? I'm not buying his story this time. There are just too many people who know the whole story who have said it was him and even Bob Saget said Dave was at his house when Alanis called during dinner for that famous line about hating to bug him during the middle of dinner.

  2. I did not even know this in the first place and quite honestly why is he bringing this up now? Does anyone actually care about him or Alanis these days?

  4. Not necessarily Kneepads, but its being reported in other sources as well. I first heard about it from a Fark link for Entertainment Weekly:

  6. I agree @NJ. No more Alanis talk *shiver*

  7. Are we sure she even wrote it all herself and/or this wasnt some publicity stunt back then? I remember hearing that John Mayer wrote Your Body is a Wonderland about JLH and he DIDN'T EVEN write it!! Neyo wrote Beyonces To The Left To The Left Song but she would say in concert and interviews how she was inspired to write it. She literally changed one melody in order to get songwriting credit/residuals. Alanis was a previous pop singer, her grungy image was a construct by the record company (ala Lana Del Rey) so I'd like to see the song writing credits please! TYVM! Smells like it was a joint publicity stunt.

    2. Alanis producer heavily co wrote the entire 1st album and she got so much backlash for not really writing her songs she never worked with him again and there went her career

The fact that she hated bugging him in the middle of dinner but didn't mind trashing him in a song is... What's the word I'm looking for... Not ironic...

  11. They dated when he was a hockey player & she was a teen singing in Canadian malls. He was older, her 1st serious bf & cheated on her constantly.

    1. That explains it! He played hockey. It's all that frontal lobe damage from taking sticks to the head. He's an asshole.

  12. Well Alanis refused to say whether it WAS him. She writes the songs for herself (Wiki reference).

Who cares about this guy or the person the song was supposedly about.

  13. @Silly---I agree with your saying BUT leave Lana outta this please---she is great.

    2. I'm jusy joking Derek! They are all record company constructs if you think about it and much respect to Lana for buying her celebrity instead of sleeping her way to a deal. I love her songs, no judging.

  14. Oh Dave is just trying to get some buzz, because he has no career. Unfortunately, neither does Alanis so he's out of luck with that. I read somewhere that "Hands Clean" is about a record producer who was messing with her when she was underage. Alanis was the first Taylor Swift.

  15. I thought "Hands Clean" was about a music executive who took advantage of her when she was a teen pop star in Canada, she's never named him.

  16. Dave, Dave, Dave....you oughta know you'll never be relevant again. No matter who went down on you in a theatre.

    1. Lol This

Apparently I read the wrong article cause the one I remember she said Hands Clean was her response to Dave's refusal to own up to You Outta Know or something.

It's probably just my brain waves getting crossed.

  22. I saw him in an interview with both Saget and the John Stamos, Coulier was so uncomfortable to look at because he wanted attention so desperately, the conversation would not be directed towards him. It was sad to witness, really, like when you feel embarrassed for other people. All he could offer was that he was getting back into stand up and touring.

  23. I saw her in Dublin when she was the warmup for Lenny Kravitz and when you're slightly gone on whiskey in the sunshine, I will say she didn't sound too bad to me. Cant stand her righteousness now though-back in yer box Alanis!!

  24. Gotta agree with Derek, she's the worst.

  28. I just love telling people that my super-tough, law enforcement, Ron Swanson-looking and acting husband was in love with Alanis when Jagged Little Pill came out. It was the funniest and most pathetic thing ever! I love the man dearly, but his taste in music is off-the-charts terrible.

  29. Oh, also, high 5 to everyone who made "You Can't Do That on Television" references in the comments.

  30. Lana is great? I do believe her millionaire father backed her career (bought). Much like Taylor Swift's father put up the initial investment for her career. It's their money-they can do what they want. But don't be naive about how the music industry works. Without that initial money doubtful she would have a career-either one of them. I have family who have learned this the hard hard way-talented and beautiful. It is a scam. And most of the people involved prey on youth and ambition. And naiveté. I could write a nasty book.

Money or sex-one or the other or both.

    Believe me.

    1. I wondered how/why Taylor Swift became so well-known. She doesn't have much of a voice and her songs suck unless you're 13.

  31. @rajachat---I am a big music person and her tunes are good. I don't care how she got there-where shes going next etc. but when I listen to her music and that unique voice I get lost to another place...

  35. The song Ironic is meta and was purposely written that way. Making fun of it just proves Alanis correct (or whoever apparently wrote it) that we as a society take everything at face value or as we've been told to expect it to be instead of utilizing our critical thinking skills.

The lyrics are cliches and examples of things which people who don't understand irony would or do call ironic. The song is titled Ironic because nothing in it is actual irony, making the song itself (not individual lines) ironic.

Don't let Alanis win. Make fun of that stupid hand in my pocket song instead.

Then again apparently I mixed up Hands Clean and Uninvited so what do I know..

Idk Riven. I've heard Alanis give that explanation and I have to call "bullshit". I think the Meta argument gives her too much credit. I think she thought "isn't it ironic?" Just sounded better than "isn't it a bummer?"

      Delete
    2. @TongueInCheek ahaha ok very tru.dat but it's a great argument. It was probably supplied to her by a stoned Berkeley hippy because that's what stoned Berkeley hippies do. They sit in clusters amongst the trees (or in them) and wax poetic rhetoric about consciousness and meta-ness and other elitist high brow bull shit. (If you can't tell I went to Cal)

But that's why I suggest that stupid hand in pocket song. There is no defense for singing about your hand being in your pocket while you hail a taxi. No one currr.

  39. I've always wondered how much Bob Saget and to an extent Dave Coulier had in making Robin Sherbotsky into Robin Sparkles and then Robin Daggers as a dig on Alanis.
