Blind Items Revealed

February 3, 2014

This feel good award story this season was caught slinking out of a married executive's hotel room this weekend. That is probably going to crush this A+ list mostly movie actor who, despite a significant other was thought to be interested in the actress.

Lupita Nyong'o/Brad Pitt

  7. Well poor Brad is named in a blind in which he did nothing wrong. Haven't we all had a thing for a big movie star which hasn't been reciprocated? (well, it wasn't in my case).

  15. The fact that no new live-action roles have been announced for Lupita doesn't bode well for her career. In addition to being a different look than Hollywood is accustomed to - and make no mistake, beautiful black women are not an easy sell to the Asian markets where Hollywood makes most of its money - she's in a tricky age group. She's too old to be an ingenue or to be set decoration in an action movie, but doesn't have the sort of track record that will ensure that people will show up for an art film, like they would for a Kate Winslet or Cait Blanchett starring role.

I think she needs a director with a strong name to insist on casting her. Woody Allen - despite his personal troubles - could do it. Someone of his reputation needs to have her back. Alternately, I believe she's done Shakespearean roles, so if someone is casting a Shakespeare flick, she'd be great.

  16. So does this mean I have a chance with Jared Leto after all?

  17. Finally rented 12 years a Slave a while back; don't get all the hype. Acting was just so so. And what the hell accent was Brad Pitt trying to do?

    1. @Keetz4, I don't think anyone will ever say that Pitt is one of the great actors of our time. But he's also no mental giant, and he's done a lot with a little. I also think his heart's in the right place.

I have not seen 12 Years a Slave, but I think Academy voters chose it as much to make a political point as much as for its aesthetic quality. I've been told that in terms of filmmaking, Gravity was much more of a groundbreaker.

  20. I very much doubt it's going to " crush" brad Pitt. I understand him and Angelina have an open relationship, and even if he was interested in Lupita I doubt he's madly in love with her and doesn't want her to have sex with anyone else. All a bit too mills and boon for me. Crushed, lol.

    1. @Pip, agree that Lupita could do indies - but is that direction she wants to go? It's a long way from Best Supporting Actress and a big cosmetics contract to indies on a limited budget. And indies are not usually produced by the kind of people who can provide her with couture. If that's what she wants, brilliant. But she hasn't made any direct statements that indicate that's what she wants to do.

  30. I don't agree with the dire assessment of Lupita's career - if Gabourey Sidibe can work regularly, even if it is cable TV, I don't think Lupita has to worry unless maybe she needs an upgrading on the agent/manager side.

I am sure Halle Berry was considered a "different look" when she hit the scene too.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. @Tina Mallette, Halle Berry HAD a different look when she hit the scene! Check her out in Eddie Murphy's Boomerang (1992). It's hard to believe it's the same woman who appeared in Monsters' Ball. Nose job undebatable; lightening job debatable.

It took Gabourey a while to get in the groove, but I'm glad she's doing well. She seems like a pleasant person, which I'm sure helps. Although I was thinking today - as I was hungry, waiting for someone at a luncheon to finally get around to serving food - I wonder if the reason that so many actresses are so bitchy is because they're so hungry.

I think Lupita can work, too. The question is - is it at a Cait Blanchett/Meryl Streep leading lady level, or a supporting actress level, or a TV lead, or something else entirely?

  33. She was in the film Non Stop apparently, not sure how she did in that, supposedly is attached to two films that look like indies, and doing voice over work for Jungle Book movie. I think she still needs to establish herself as an actress fully, to prove that the one role wasn't a fluke, 12 Years a Slave was her first movie.

I think the key in any event is to keep working, try to go for quality where you can and get as much work that shows you have as much range as possible. I myself am stunned that people in Hollywood have been creating roles for Gabby. I thought we'd never see that girl again ever.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. @Tina, Vulture did a great piece about Lupita's screen time in Non Stop: http://www.vulture.com/2014/02/everything-lupita-nyongo-does-in-non-stop.html Basically, it's not a part the other A-list actresses would have been fighting over.

  34. PS I am glad to be proven wrong so far about Gabby- you go girl.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Okay I guess I was wrong with this movie called Who Shot the Sheriff - they got the rights to the song for the soundtrack already

It looks like a very interesting cast, Rihanna? Kevin Hart? Lauryn Hill? Rosario Dawson? and lot of the cast including LN are listed as rumored- translation this film is not a firm project yet it is listed as in pre production
    http://www.imdb.com/title/tt3378192/?ref_=nm_flmg_act_2

and also including one of our faves Terence Howard, wink

  36. She's signed to be in the film of Amerikah, which btw is a fantastic book.

    ReplyDelete
  37. However Nutty, Lupita took the role in Non-Stop long before she knew she was going to be an Oscar winner, in fact the movie came out around the time of the Oscars. She was just another acting school graduate happy to get a role in any feature film at this point. So you can't judge on that basis. And of course the writer doesn't really emphasize that. And all great actors and actresses have plenty of dud movies on the resume.

This is what happens when you win an Oscar in your first movie which is often considered a curse in fact. She still is not really A list - she still has to prove herself but she has gotten a boost many actresses in small supporting roles would die to have. Whether she can parlay it all wisely who knows.

    ReplyDelete
  38. I hope Lupita does more work too. I was also glad Gabby was recognized for her talent. It'll be interesting to see how she plays out.

I think Mo'nique pissed off people by not wanting to do promo of the movie. She sort of acted like she didn't need H'wd. Looks like H'wd agreed.

    ReplyDelete
  39. I know what happened to Mo'nique. Mo'nique happened to Mo'nique!

She turned into a monster diva troll and that blew up her career.

Such a shame, because I really did liker, she could act, and was extremely funny.

  40. Lupita is a graduate of the prestigious Yale School of Drama--no small feat. She has an Oscar. She will work the rest of her life either in film or on Broadway, and probably both. She'd have to do some serious screwing up to blow the lead she has over other actresses her age.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Topper, didn't know she was at Yale! One of the best drama programs in the country. Yale, NYU, Carnegie Melon and Juliard.

    ReplyDelete
  42. If Lupita want to survive in Hollywood and capitalized the great fortune she had with the Oscar she has to become meaner and bitchier. She gives the vulnerable good-shy-girl type. Bitces in Hollywood will eat her for breakfast before going to the next casting couch.

  43. ****not gonna make a scene****

  44. Call me a slut again I will personally fly to Vegas and smack the proper bitch outta you. Yes that is a THREAT.

    ReplyDelete
  45. @Msgirl
Lupita bought the rights to that book, Amerikah, hoping to make a movie. It has no backing or money behind it yet. Will be years, if ever unless she can get Brad or Harvey interested.

    @Tina
Gabby may be getting work but she is still the "fat, sassy, ugly, sidekick, maid" so I don't think other actresses are too jealous of her.

  47. Lupita should be a Bond girl

    ReplyDelete
  48. Ooh J-Mo. That's an excellent suggestion. She's gorgeous enough and has there been a black Bond girl? Better still how about her as the new M or whoever that boss is? If they could write a juicy role like that I think that would be better. I really think Lupita is luminous and hope she survives in those shark infested waters.

    ReplyDelete
  49. I feel a bit better about myself knowing that a man could be with who is considered one of the most beautiful women on the planet and still want something different. I guess men running around has nothing to with who is waiting at home. They like variety. Angelina and Lupita are total opposites. Who knows? Angelina may be more interested in Lupita than Brad is.

    ReplyDelete
  50. I'm sorry to say this, but Lupita is just the flavor of the moment. Look at Gabe Sisibe and JHuds' careers for confirmation of that and the chick from Slumdog Millionaire.

    ReplyDelete
  51. I agree she is the flavor of the moment, and her sneaking out of an exec's suite reeks. She's much ado about nothing, IMO.

    ReplyDelete
  52. I think Lupita will avoid the "Cat Woman" mistake Halle made after getting a much discussed Oscar. I think it's smart for her to grace magazine covers, parade around in couture and keep a buzz, albeit low key, around her name. She can, and should be selective about what she does next. I hope she insists on a non stereotypical role, one that will show her acting chops. She could do something with Netflix or HBO for example where they think outside the box. If I were here I'd give myself two years before doing anything serious.

And Brad has always liked his coffee dark. As has been said I gues "they" convinced him he should publicly like very light coffee.

There was too much talk about Lupita and Leto for it to have been false IMO.

  53. @Keetz4 About 12 Years a Slave, I have no idea why it won OSCARS. But it did help me decide to make a film that will SWEEP the awards season.

The protagonist is a Jewish, gay, black British man who joins a gang after being attacked by White Supremacists and Gay Bashers (at different times of course) , he then discovers the strength inside himself to overcome his limited financial funds and go to Harvard. Once there, he discovers a new drug that can cure every "Sexy to Hollywood" disease (AIDS, Breast Cancer, Sudden Onset Amnesia that seems to happen sometimes litrally at the drop of a hat, stutters, etc.)

After discovering the drug, all the white professors try to suppress his findings since they all answer to BIG MEDICINE and curing the diseases will cost them billions in revenue. The only person to help him is an AUTISTIC janitor played by Morgan Freeman who is also a master of disguise. He uses his disguises to bring the formula to the attention of the lone black professor (of Linguistics) played by Denzel Washington. (Denzel's character is British, but Denzel will continue his long held belief that the only accent to adopt is Denzel's and critics will say he transformed himself once again).

After escaping from BIG MEDICINE, our Protagonist, Denzel and Freeman will find themselves at a NATIVE AMERICAN RESERVATION. Many of the people are suffering from the diseases the cure works on as they were infected by the white man to gain the land that they own. Our Protagonist cures them all with his new drug and the tribe is forever grateful to him.

After the NA's have been cured, the leader of the tribe calls upon a gathering of all the leaders of all the NATIVE AMERICAN TRIBES. He proposes they give our Protagonist all the money they have made through the casinos they own instead of using that money to work to clean the water and air from pollution (That's what they do in real life with the money guys, hand to Radar from MASH). They all agree and the Protagonist, Denzel and Freeman go into production immediately with the drug. They are able to give the medicine away for free and end all of the diseases I listed earlier, putting BIG MEDICINE out of business.

During his travels the Protagonist learns that he is a lost heir to the British throne. The Queen, being so impressed with him formally disinherits the rest of the family from the throne and abdicates so he can become the new King of England. While he is honored, the protagonist hands the crown to Morgan Freeman and names him the new king.

Credits roll and since it covers EVERYTHING Hollywood wants us to see (Mainly white guilt, nobody should make money except for those hard working actors living hand to mouth with their 20 Million Dollar paychecks, MORE white guilt, etc...) it will win every award. In fact there won't be any award shows the year after it comes out because they announce it wins everything after the first screening of the movie.

Then people begin believing Freeman is the King of England and Obama starts a war with England to make sure he does become the king since that will make all the people on Twitter that started the hashtag movement happy. Somehow, talks of a nuclear war begin spreading around but Al Sharpton and Bill O'Reilly begin peace talks and both countries stand down with four concessions: Freeman is named King of England, America can send back Simon Cowell, the former queen and the entire former Royal Family can send for any actor in Hollywood at anytime to use as they wish (For some reason Prince Harry pretty much keeps John Travolta, Tom Cruise and Ryan Reynolds for "private use" for the rest of their lives) and finally, the televised execution of Justin Bieber and Robin Thicke to be broadcast on every station in North America and the entirety of Britain.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Woody Allen's personal problems aren't so personal.
They affected so many lives. He needs to disappear, & without all the celebrity gushing endorsements.
I always wonder how for example Diane Keaton would feel if her daughter was involved?
People in Hollywood still support Roman Polanski for f***s sake.
Just because a person is talented in their profession doesn't automatically make them a great human being.
I'm on a rant, but why do people escape the justice coming to them because they make films?

    ReplyDelete
  55. Lupita is very beautiful. She seems incredibly intelligent.
Why do women feel like they have to do this stuff to get a role in a movie? It's horrible. Apparently the casting couch is here to stay.
Please girls take the high road. Get roled based on your talent rather than your talent with BJ's .

    ReplyDelete
  56. There are many beautiful women who could have played the role for which Lupita got an award - Nicole Behairie, Naomi Harris, Kerry Washington before she became A++, Anika Noni Rose, etc. I didn't see anything in her that any other reasonably competent actress couldn't do.

Bond Girl? Forget it - she has fat legs and lots more booty than looks great in a bathing suit. Halle Berry was a Bond girl many years ago.
