Blind Item #1

It is possible we may lose two A list singers to AIDS before the year is out. I have told you about one in this space before, and now another one is fighting for his life despite his assurances that his recent illness was minor.

  6. Not even gonna guess on this. I have an inkling but it's not really something I wanna throw out there.
If it's true I hope the poor soul has a peaceful time left. Death by AIDS is truly horrific.

    1. Quite right. However, I don't see him as a coochy-crazed sex machine like others of his ilk.

  14. McCartney is supposed to be back on stage in early July - he has only cancelled concerts in June - and he has a huge concert planned in August at Candlestick Park in San Francisco, the last one to be held there before it is demolished. Candlestick Park was also the site of the Beatles' last official concert.

Morrissey has cancelled his entire U.S. tour.

George Michael has done very little promotion for his new album.

    1. I read that George is very busy going to release a whole new album in July. The symphonica vocals sound so strong even after coming back from his life threatening illness it's hard to believe he is this sick. I have to see him in concert one last time!!!

    2. Agreed, I need to see my George one more time

Who is the other "lucky" guy with George this year?

  20. It's unlikely we'll get confirmation for our guesses. If these two people aren't open about their disease now then I doubt their people would release a statement with the true cause of death after they pass.

    ReplyDelete

    1. @MissKWyumyum Reminds me of Liberace's people blaming his 'watermelon diet' for his death. Rock Hudson's people were very open about it, and helped make AIDS a public cause instead of a dirty secret. What did Freddie Mercury's people do - does anyone know? Nureyev?

At any rate, there have been stories that young gay men are being much less careful about safe sex these days. A prominent AIDS death might change that.

      Delete
    2. Freddie's people didn't release the fact that he had AIDS until a day or two before he died. His death seemed abnormally sudden, though you could see in photos that he was declining.

  21. As long as Yoko Ono still breaths, McCartney is not going anywhere. He wants to outlive her to get his Beatles stuff.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. @Henriette, I agree about McCartney and Yoko Ono. The last one standing is the one who gets to shape the story for history. I don't know of McCartney being involved in any high-risk AIDS behaviors - I have read a couple biographies of him, and I don't think he ever had sex with men, had blood transfusions or used IV drugs. He did, however, sleep with Heather Mills.

    2. Lol Nutty! That was a predator swooping in on a grieving widower. She tried to pull the abuse card when they were divorcing. Even tried to insinuate that he beat Linda up. She was rightly hounded out of town after that. Macca might have been a man ho in his Beatles days, but he wasn't an abuser.

  26. Hasn't George Michael been "near death" for years now? I have to take this with a grain of salt.

While I find Morrissey to be douchetastic, he will certainly be a loss to those who care for him. Watching someone die from AIDS is horrific. I wouldn't wish it on anyone.

    ReplyDelete
  27. @Nutty Freddy Mercury He died of bronchopneumonia brought on by AIDS on 24 November 1991, only one day after publicly acknowledging that he had the disease.-wiki

    ReplyDelete
  28. This is something I'm not going to guess on

    ReplyDelete
  29. AIDS was rock hudson's 'dirty secret' until he was almost dead. that's the first time he ever acknowledged his sexuality (although it was a poorly kept secret) or his disease. his people were hardly 'open' about it.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. @Nancer, I meant 'open' after his death, in contrast to Liberace, who died around the same time and insisted that there be no mention of AIDS in his obituary - thus, the 'watermelon diet.' At any rate, I don't think we can judge Rock Hudson for not disclosing his sexuality in the 1950s, 1960s, or 1970s, when homosexuality was still classified as a mental disorder.

  44. McCartney pushed back his concert here 4 months so he could recover from a virus according to local news.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Isn't Mccartney being sick a recent thing? George Michael and Morissey have been sick for a while, isn't that how HIV works? You see a downslide, not, all of a sudden an old guy (who did his share of partying) getting sick which seems normalish for his age

    ReplyDelete
  46. George Michael for the one he's told us about before, Morrisey for the new one. Just cancelled his tour due to a respiratory ailment.

    ReplyDelete
  47. If Paul McCartney is one of them, I'm confused as to when he became infected. Linda died in 1998, and there was never even a hint that either of them were ever unfaithful. They always claimed they only spent one night apart in their entire marriage, and that's when he was in jail in Japan. I also thought McCartney gave up hard drugs in the early 70's before HIV had made it's way to Europe or the U.S., so a dirty needle doesn't seem to be the cause. What piece of the puzzle am I missing?

    ReplyDelete
  48. We were supposed to see Paul Mccartney in Dallas this Monday and the show was cancelled. This could be him...

    ReplyDelete
  49. I'm surprised at the McCartney guesses as well, he doesn't do hard drugs and he doesn't screw around, so not sure why he is such a common guess?

Also I don't want to guess, feel very sad about whomever is suffering any may be facing the end of their lives.

    ReplyDelete
  50. how do people honestly know that Paul doesn't screw around? Anyway it could only take one one night stand to get it.

    ReplyDelete
  51. I don't see either George. or Morrissey close to death. hopefully this is not true.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Paul McCartney is an A++ in any universe the human mind can imagine, and not just as a singer. Between himself and John Lennon, he pretty much invented modern popular music.

I've been known to look side-eyed at Enty's ratings, but even he wouldn't reduce Paul McCartney to an "A list singer."

  55. I hate that there is such a stigma against aids. I've had some health issues and it's been really eye opening about auto immune diseases. Someone is just as likely to die from lupus as they are aids, but I guess there isn't any fun in guessing who has that. And yes I get that aids is a virus, but really, why the shaming?

    ReplyDelete
  56. Please not my Georgios. :-(
A few days ago I was weeding through my iTunes collection and I noticed I hadn't imported many of my GM/Wham! albums into it. The recent blinds that Entys had that seem to be about him went through my head, and I decided to import the CDs plus load all of them onto my iPods. I wanna listen to as much of George now when I can, because I know very well that if he passes it won't be the same. Don't ask me why, but a singers voice sounds completely different "after." I remember trying to listen to "Never Tear Us Apart" after I saw the news about Michael Hutchence on that night I'm November, and I couldn't stand it.
As for Macca--also, please no. My first reaction was "How would he have gotten it?" Then I remembered an article I saw some years ago about how seniors are actually naive about AIDS and other STDs, thinking it can't happen to their generation, so, could be. Seniors can be a bit like teens in that way, I guess.

    ReplyDelete
  57. No way it's Boy George. That man is on a raw vegan diet and is in better shape than I am, ha ha. Tweets constantly and is promoting a reunion thing with Culture Club.

  58. That said, all of the guesses make me sad. Morrissey might be a sour-tempered dick, but no one deserves an incurable, ravaging virus.

  62. I really truly don't think this is Paul. He will always be A+++++ in this world. He's never given off the vibe of being a serial cheater. In fact, quite the opposite. He has always seemed devoted to whomever he is with including that horrible woman between Linda & his current wife.
That said. Anyone young or old can contract HIV if they have unprotected sex with someone who is infected. Like someone said above, there has been a huge outbreak of STDs among seniors especially those in senior homes. They figure they can't get pregnant so why bother with protection.

    ReplyDelete
  63. Morrissey and George Michael.

  64. What this thread has really shown me is that most of us (myself included) need WAY more AIDS education.

  65. Krystie Rachelle,
    To clarify.
AUTOIMMUNE: "an illness occurs when the body tissues are attacked by ITS OWN IMMUNE SYSTEM".
    examples: lupus, fibromyalgia

HIV/AIDS: Human immunodeficiency virus. ACQUIRED immunodeficiency disorder. The virus is passed from ONE PERSON TO ANOTHER.
    examples: hiv, aids

PIDD: primary immune deficiency. Primary-meaning "you are born with"
    examples: leukemia, selective IgA

    An important distinction.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. There is a difference but it attacks the body all in the same way. It's not any of those diseases that kill you, it's the lack of an immune system that does you in. Who cares about the difference in how you contract it, because believe me, aids isn't just from having sex, it's just the shaming people get from having a virus. And the lack of value placed on their life. Someone has lung cancer after 30 years of smoking and no one plays down the illness, people will donate up the ass for cancer. Someone is in the hospital with HIV, they are labeled as a junky, whore, or gay and more judgement then money is passed their way. But when it comes down to it, they usually all go the same way. It's the infections that get you.

LOL a "leave morrisey alone" kind of fan telling someone to grow up. I imagine this person crying in their room trying to type this with all of their anger.

It's not McCartney. (And he has done hard drugs, but supposedly not for decades. They were his famous "lost" years.) I've been told he's actual battled pneumonia recently, he got run down by his schedule & that's so easy to get when you're older, which is why the cancellations but he's cleared to go on with shows July 5th. There's a show in my town July 7th, and I work in a field were I'm at our arena constantly, I was told by our booking VP if there was any remote chance at all he may not make the date they'd be pulling back promos & ads, & they aren't at all.

When I first read this, I thought about that one rapper who had health issues recently, I couldn't remember his name if I tried tho.

And I thought about that random talk of Dylan having AIDS a few years back.

  72. Kermit, I am no Morrisey fan, but I do agree with Krab's sentiments. Sandy said a really dickish thing. Apparently since "no one will miss him", it's cool that he is the one with AIDS. It was an immature, ignorant statement.

  74. @Sandybrook The thing about Morrisey being no loss, that's the exact same way I felt about Cobain and his shotgun mouthwash. All Nirvana did was get rid of all but three chords and lyrics that made sense in songwriting. Created a bunch of depressed kids, many who imitated him and ended their lives because their god did and then still gets listed as the John Lennon of my generation. They even compare their deaths. I never got that part, John Lennon (while admittedly a junkie, although everything I've read about him he had quit by Dec. of 1980) was loving life, enjoying time with his son and wife, getting back into the life of his other son and enjoying making music again when a sociopath cowardly shot him in the back. Cobain was a junkie who married a chick he hated because he didn't want to be alone and perpetuate the Sid and Nancy stereotype, was depressed because he hated himself (he was basically a hipster before we used the term, if it was cool, he acted liek he hated it to be different so he hated himself for being fake. For example, dude was an Abba and KISS fan but would mock them in public), didn't want to give up the one thing he loved (heroin) so killed himself because he was a weak willed person who couldn't handle the life he created for himself. Their deaths were nothing alike and it makes me sick to this day seeing all those reports comparing the two back in 1994, especially Kurt Loder's fawning over him everyday on MTV News.

Sorry for the rant, just that Morrisey thing made me think of it.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Rowdy, it's called mental illness. Depression is no joke, there is no perpetuating anything. Cobain was tortured and did not want to be in the spotlight. His music was his self expression, most creatives are depressed and have an outlet. He was someone's son, someone's father, and he was loved. Whether you like him or his music, doesn't make it ok to judge him when he was at a low point in his life. Yes, he was an addict, but addiction is a coping mechanism. It silenced the voices in his head and one day he finally gave into them. It's a tragedy, and not because he was famous, but because he was lost, and I would never, ever wish someone that kind of misery.

  75. This is really sad to say but I do think it's George Michael and Paul McCartney.

I do believe George has been sick for years, although it has never been clear for Paul. A lot of people keep saying he hasn't done hard drugs for years, had blood transfusions nor been involved with other women while married to Linda. The thing is we really don't know.

Over the years, I've learned some of the top A list celebrities are the best at hiding various illnesses, infidelities and addictions. Yeah, maybe Morrisey is a dog, but one can't say he's on his deathbed because of it.

    ReplyDelete
  76. Thank you @Krystie. I can't stand when those who don't understand hate on Kurt Cobain. He was a gentle soul who shouldn't be disrespected that way (and I still say, Courtney, just sayin'). If nothing else, can they agree that Nirvana did start a musical revolution, and they were great, and that Seattle was just what we needed, AND, it gave us the awesome Foo Fighters? Jeez. Not everyone is gonna like the same things, and for some of us, KC, Nirvana, and Seattle was just what we were waiting for!

Whoever these 2 guys are, it's just sad, it shouldn't be a stigma anymore, but of course it is. I remember poor Freddie, we watched it happen before our eyes, and we all KNEW. One day before he died, he admitted it. Freddie will ALWAYS be loved. Nobody cares WHY, except that it was tragic. Rock Hudson, everyone saw it on Dynasty. What's sad, is that the people who succumb to AIDS, is that they think the majority of us will judge them and think LESS of them, and we DON'T (most of us). We love them, we mourn them, and their legacy isn't lost. It's sad that they feel so ASHAMED. It's sad that they don't get to feel the LOVE while they're still alive, and in their last days. None of us should ever feel that ashamed, or afraid. LOVE to whomever they are.

    ReplyDelete
  77. @Krystie @KSierra You guys are missing what I was talking about. I was talking about how in 1994 up til today, people always said Cobain was my generations John Lennon and compared their deaths as if they were the same thing. They made a martyr out of Cobain when his death was 100% on him.

I admit my bias about when I talk about Kurt's suicide because I find suicide to be a cowardly and selfish act, so I apologize for being insensitive. But even you have to admit they went a bit too far in the way they (the music media) almost seemed to make a saint out of him for killing himself.

  78. Macca will be 72 in a few days. It takes a lot longer to recover from pneumonia at his age. This isn't him.

    ReplyDelete
  79. George Michael, without a doubt. I wish he would publicly acknowledge his illness, but in doing so he'd also be admitting to careless sexual behavior while knowingly HIV+.

In a strange statement, Morrissey just publicly blamed his support act for making him sick. Maybe he thinks pinning the tale on a woman will divert attention from the truth. :/
