It's the anonymity factor, just like internet bullying. You can do it fast and quick and usually have zero consequences. It's not group-think, it's individuals utilizing a group setting to hide their perverted thrills.
Yep! That was fascinating to me. I've always assumed in all cases there would maybe a quick boob/butt grope here and there with the occasional BUT inevitable crotch grope by an impulsive pervert but FINGERS IN her vagina? I was floored. Then, when she talked about how it became a Thing and people were tweeting her before her concerts saying they were going go for it? Whut? And that more women do it than men because they seem to think its OK or somehow less offensive TO TRY TO PUT THEIR FINGERS IN HER VAGINA since they have a vagina too. Nope! SO, these Women are implying that if a man slips her a finger its sexual assault but if a woman does it, its just funny? Someone should hunt those tweeters down and ask them! Every person on this Earth better keep their fingers out of other people's Vaginas unless explicitly invited! YOU disappointed me today those women!!! Grrr
Oh come on Lady H, yeah Aaron L may only stand there or sit on a stool while he sings but they aren't that bad (says my inner 16 year old fan girl with a crush).
that one guy was so stupid. Yes we are starting to see things like 15 year old girls being grouped and molested by random guys as something to frown upon, dumbass. Good for the singer dude though maybe violence isn't the answer.
I should clarify, it didn't look like they were molesting her, they were just trying to pass her along in a giant "NODDITNODDITNODDIT!!" as she was doing it allll wrong
No snark. Dude stops singing, goes all Orange County Choppers on fans who are molesting a 15 yr old girl. Hero. Well deserved applause. Resumes singing.
This is bottom of the barrel molestation reporting, Fugazi Enty. I expect more from you. Where is cell phone footage of the girl? How about a link to her Facebook page? Where are the faps in a singer I never heard of crabbin about a broad he don't know?
This does remind me that it is Summer Concert Season, so I have to keep my eyes peeled on the Twitter for cell phone footage of parking lot BJs and 3days w/o a shower festival porkings. The ones where they are bent over, holding on to the chain link fence are the best.
I would love to know of all the people who scream "BOYCOTT!!!" when a celebrity does something they disagree with are running out to buy the latest Staind album bc he did something nice.
Oh god. Actually the eldest jr is going to his first festival this summer. I am hoping (in a sadly sexist way) the fact he's a six ft male rugby player will mean he gets an easy ride.
@Violet remind him to give his wallet, phone, keys etc to someone (who isn't crowd surfing) for safe keeping. Drink plenty of water, he doesn't want to be that person who passes out in the pit due to heat stroke. Oh don't let him be That Guy, even if kids these days don't know the reference. Always always pick people up if they fall, keep his head up and watch for flailing doc martens flying above (in his case likely into) his head, and for fucks sake don't put anyone on his shoulders that's just rude lol.
I should add there are likely women out there who crowd surf and have never been groped or assaulted, I'm not trying to say if a girl crowd surfs it'll happen. But it happens a hell of a lot more than people think, just like many things it doesn't make headlines. I just happen to have a lot of experience with music festivals.
@Violet-tell him to watch for flying soda bottles as well as doc martens. The closer you get to the stage the more shit you get thrown your way. Never turn your back on the crowd.
I've been to tons of these festivals and also concerts where crowd surfing is the norm, hell I've done it myself quite a few times. Not to say every guy is copping a feel, but there are plenty of pervs that will shove their hand in your crotch to pass you along or full on grab your whole boob. I've seen girls wearing bikini tops go up and surprise! They lose their top.
If it makes you feel any better, if a guy crowdsurfs over me he gets punched in the balls for thinking I would be interested in having to hold him up when I'm trying to enjoy a show.
@Discoflux I confess, I laughed. Still am. Thank you. I always get kicked in the head because I'm too short, so I've been known to grab onto the offending shoe, yank it off and throw it.
Oh yeah @Violet make he should make sure his shoes are tight too!
@Barb I'm not sure if this is sarcasm. But I will say that sometimes when a child screaming "please stop it hurts" doesn't work, a pencil stabbed into the chest does.
He's my hero today - for doing what all humans should have done, but unfortunately, most don't. It's too bad females can't crowd surf without being fingered and groped, or worse. I'd say a good number of parents need to work on raising their sons better instead of dispersing yet another crop of would-be sexual assailants. If that weren't bad enough, they then blame the female when their special little snowflake rapes them.
I don't know of a single female who hasn't been groped, flashed or molested numerous times since they were at least 6 years old, myself included, and that is a f*cking travesty.
Don't assume that just because you're a guy, you'll be fine if you go crowdsurfing--Trent Reznor was complaining in the '90s that people were sticking their fingers up his ass when he'd go out into the crowd (there's a reason he's wearing long pants now, folks). Then again, that may not even be enough: I distinctly remember a story a friend of mine told me in the mid-to-late '80s about the time she saw Peter Gabriel on the So tour. For years, one of the highlights of his live shows would be when he would fall over backwards into the crowd during "Lay Your Hands on Me"...well, this particular audience did a bit more than that. He went out fully dressed--jacket, shirt, pants, shoes, etc.--but by the time he made it back to the stage, all he had left were his pants, and those just barely. (IIRC, my friend ran into someone who got the label off his shirt, which said "100% linen." Now THERE'S a concert souvenir, eh?)
Now, anyone who's been at shows where crowdsurfing goes on knows that there's a certain amount of accidentally grabbing someone in a awkward way while trying not to drop them on their ass or your head, but there's a big damn difference between that and assault, be it sexual or non-sexual. WTF is wrong with people, anyway... *sigh*
I was at a concert a long time ago at a small venue. I don't even remember which band I was watching - maybe Foo Fighters (Dave Grohl, swooon). A young girl was crowd surfing, but she was passed out. Very quickly her pants were removed and shirt was off. The lead singer stopped the show and had his security team rescue her. Scary shit.
Peter Gabriel's crowdsurfing was famous back then. He fully expected to lose his shoes jacket and shirt on those ventures and he always had a second outfit ready (I saw that tour on LA). Going for his pants is a bit too much though. Some people are just assholes.
FS: Yeah, she said he did seem to have more clothes ready to go. Still, though, why rip someone's clothes off like that? Unless he was wearing some kind of breakaway male stripper outfit, it's got to be painful when stuff gets yanked off like that.
Here's a wacky idea- dint criwd surf!!!!!! Its seems ti be a great way to get a concussion not to mention getting sexually groped by a bunch of neaderthals. Its dangerous, just enjoy the music, and forget the crowd surfing!!
Gee, I'd agree with you, but...it's just not that hard to keep your fingers out of someone else's orifices. It's just not. Especially when they invariably have not just one, but two layers of clothing over them.
When's the last time you were in such close quarters with someone that you couldn't help but stick your finger in their vagina? Because it was *right there*?
Yeah, that'd be NEVER.
It's one thing to not want to risk concussion. Fair enough. But crowd-surfing is, in itself, relatively innocuous. Why can't we all just agree not to sexually assault people at concerts?
I can't snark on this.
ReplyDeleteNOT IT.
Tl:dw
ReplyDeleteAaron Lewis is a stand up guy, this isn't the first time he has down this. Much Respect!
ReplyDelete*done*
DeleteCleo, ummm do woman often get molested at Staind concerts?
DeleteNot just Staind concerts. There's something about a crowd like that at concerts that think it's okay to grope random women.
DeleteNobody gets molested at a Mandy Moore concert.
DeleteIt's the anonymity factor, just like internet bullying. You can do it fast and quick and usually have zero consequences. It's not group-think, it's individuals utilizing a group setting to hide their perverted thrills.
Deleteyeah that's what i said in previous thread.. good on him
ReplyDeleteGood for him !!!
ReplyDeleteStupid idiot penis wrinkles for feeling up girls like that.
I forget which musician said she always gets fingered when she crowd surfs. Iggy Azalea maybe?
ReplyDeleteYep! That was fascinating to me. I've always assumed in all cases there would maybe a quick boob/butt grope here and there with the occasional BUT inevitable crotch grope by an impulsive pervert but FINGERS IN her vagina? DeleteWell, Staind finally did something worth talking about. Kind of. Wish it could have been a better band but at least it's not ICP
ReplyDeleteOh come on Lady H, yeah Aaron L may only stand there or sit on a stool while he sings but they aren't that bad (says my inner 16 year old fan girl with a crush).
DeleteYes, that was Iggy Azalea.
ReplyDeleteGood job fella!
ReplyDeleteReally Sandy? Lord. Another reason why the jrs will not be going to concerts without parental supervision any time soon.
ReplyDelete@Violet every single girl I know who's crowd surfed at a show has been molested by someone while doing it. This is not a small number either.
DeleteI hate not doing something that someone who is biologically male "can" do but I'll concede on this one. Not worth it to me.
*Standing Ovation*
ReplyDeleteBravo for speaking up and helping her.
that one guy was so stupid. Yes we are starting to see things like 15 year old girls being grouped and molested by random guys as something to frown upon, dumbass. Good for the singer dude though maybe violence isn't the answer.
ReplyDeleteHaha ya I came to say the same thing. What a pylon.
DeleteYes Violet and she stopped doing it for that reason.
ReplyDeleteShe was wearing, like, two or three pairs of panties and a couple of pairs of tights and they were still getting through, so she stopped.
ReplyDeleteDid anyone see that crowd surfing video of Katy Perry? Pure schadenfreude
ReplyDeleteI should clarify, it didn't look like they were molesting her, they were just trying to pass her along in a giant "NODDITNODDITNODDIT!!" as she was doing it allll wrong

ReplyDeleteA heartfelt bravo to Aaron Lewis for doing the right thing and standing up for her.
ReplyDeleteNo snark. Dude stops singing, goes all Orange County Choppers on fans who are molesting a 15 yr old girl. Hero. Well deserved applause. Resumes singing.

@Riven. I will print this off and tattoo it to his chest! You've gotta let go as a parent but when you read this stuff it makes me a little anxious :/
Delete@Violet-tell him to watch for flying soda bottles as well as doc martens. The closer you get to the stage the more shit you get thrown your way. Never turn your back on the crowd.
DeleteNo more! Don't tell me any more. This is my precious first born we're talking about. PFBs and festivals should not be allowed to mix.

Courtney Love also stated she doesn't crowd surf anymore cuz she was not only groped by grabbed & molested.
ReplyDeleteYou know it's bad when Courtney won't do it anymore.
*Standing Ovation* And violence toward the molesters is absolutely justifiable.

@MadLyb ^5
DeleteWell said MadLyb. ITA. Who is raising boys to think this is OK? What male would even be friends with someone who thinks this is OK? Rape culture.
DeleteThis thread makes me want to patent razor crotch self defense panties for women. Might work on that this weekend.
