Dogs or cats?

  1. Dogs. Way less sass and much cuter.

  2. Cats. Way less trouble and they don't slobber all over you. To me having a dog is like having a toddler. So much work. They're cute and sweet though.

  10. Of they weren't quite so vomit inducingly unclean, I'd say dogs. But I'm sorry, I spent the better part of 11 years wiping human bottoms and I'm not sure I can go back to that again.

  11. Cleo - FIVE?! I seem to recall they are HUGE!

    1. They are, but they're big, sweet babies. Most importantly, they can handle our Alaskan Winters, and yet are really mellow, couch potatoes when it's too hot/cold to be out.

    2. I have moose that come by regularly and both seem to just look at each other like lost kin. I've brought the dogs in only to have the moose come up my deck so she can look at them through the glass doors.

    3. Cleodacat - that is 100% AWESOMO!

Feel like I just read a Northern Exposure recap or something! MOOSE on your DECK! In real life no less!

I used to have an echidna game trail in my yard ... But they're so much smaller than a MOOSE! Boggle!

I love all animals but currently only have 2-20 yr old cats. When Lucy and Ethel go over the rainbow we're getting a dog.

  16. I love them both. They have such personalities! Once i had party st my house and everyone was inside chatting. I went into kitchen to straighten up and there is the cat, on the table with the food, dragging slices of turkey to the edge of table, right into the 2 waiting dogs mouths!!!!! Cat did that every now and then- i thought it was cool.

  19. I had 3 cats that eventually got old & died and now have a 4 yr old yellow lab/ golden retriever mutt who is my baby. He was quite a terror as a puppy, though!

  23. Both. My Pup makes sure my house is safe and my Cat lets me know when to lose the attitude.

  28. I have a cat that acts like a dog. She growls at the UPS man. She comes when called and loves my lap. She's no ordinary cat. Her name is Spot and she's been featured on The Colbert Report. She's just a great cat.

  29. I'm highly allergic to fur, but can handle dogs with hair, so hairy dogs it is! I love cats, but after 15 minutes around them, I'm dying. :(

  31. Dogs, especially my boxer.

  32. Im so lucky im not allergic!

  33. Both. Currently we have two cats (one 2-year-old and one 17-year-old) and one dog (a 12-year-old). The cats don't get along with each other well, but the dog -- an 85-pound Chow-Akita mix -- loves both of the cats.

    I love them all.

  36. L♡VE all animals - currently have 4 cats, 2 foster cats, 1 dog, 1 foster dog, & caretake 2 managed TNR'd colonies. All rescued, 4 of the 6 cats are "special needs", & the dogs are both "senior special needs". I just believe that animals have more highly evolved souls than humans. ♡ Spay, neuter, & Peace, Love, Rescue! ♡

  37. Auntlicky, great story! Same for you Writergirl.

All animals have a soul and personality..Even horses Rowdy. Get to know one and you'll change your mind.

Interestingly horses come running up to me when I see them in a pasture. It's an odd phenomena. Of course dogs love me too. They know who's safe.

  38. Why can't we have both?? My Sausage dog loves cats but I'm not so sure many of them love him back...

  39. Love my cat but if I could, I would like a dog too but the idea of trapping a dog in the house for 8 hours breaks my heart. Worse leaving it outside.. :'(

  40. I like dogs just fine, but as far as actually living with them, for me it's cats--in fact, I just adopted a new furbaby this weekend! Romeo is a 6-7 year old brown polydactyl tabby cat with green eyes and the sweetest disposition ever. He's a rescue cat who was caught by a former student of one of my oldest friends; he was living rough for probably at least a year and possibly much longer than that, but he'd been neutered, so we're pretty sure he had a home at some point and either got lost or (more likely, alas) was abandoned. He's FIV+, which isn't the death sentence people used to think; it's not transmittable to other species, and is bloodborne, so usually they can live with other cats, but it can be best to keep them as only cats, which will be the case here. The former student/current vet tech (who's going to vet school in the fall) originally took him to a shelter, but rushed to get him when she heard he was FIV+ and the shelter was planning to put him to sleep; he was staying at a kennel for a while there, but now he's sprawled out sleeping on my bed. He's still terribly skittish (not surprising, considering his alertness and fear kept him alive), but he's a total cuddlebug, and I think he'll eventually understand that this is his forever home and we all love him here. (All together now...Awwwwww!)

(Yeah, I know, novella-sized post, but I'm still in excited new catmom mode right now...)

    1. That's super cool, @Robin. Something new to photograph ;)

Remember hearing about FAIDS long ago - the (real) article read like it was from the Onion. Extreme. Glad the kitteh prognosis is good, and kudos to your rescue friend that high tailed it back to the shelter.

  41. I prefer cats, but I like most dogs. I used to have a Boston Terrier, she was awesome. I've had cats my entire life.

  42. Both. I have 4 big dogs and 3 cats. 1 dog and 2 of the cats are 17 years old. All of the animals are my children's but my Monkey who is one of the old man kitties. The rest are my kids. I prefer cats, dogs are way too needy but I love them. My old lady dog, my youngest son's dog was given a liver cancer death sentence 4 years ago and she keeps chugging along. I changed her diet and gave her herbs with diet supplements. I'll never go back to that who made my son cry and think he had to put her down. Now the problem is she is going to have to go eventually and my son is in the Marine Corps. The eventually is coming...for her and my two black cats. Just makes me so sad.

  43. Oh yeah and my husband put the dogs out the other night. He fell asleep and old lady dog fell in the pool, she wasn't able to get out on her own. Luckily it's a party pool but she still wasn't in the most shallow end. She was just sticking her nose above the water and Soldier was barking her head off trying to get help.

That would have been tragic and how to explain it to my son...horrific.

  44. Hello, I am a long time lurker.
Although I really like dogs (they are so nice), I'm awfully allergic to the dander. Severe allergic reaction + asthma attacks to certain dogs = can't breathe. It is not breed specific, but seems to be longer fur, and/or double coats. I want to pet most of them but usually just say hello.
I ❤️ cats, whose personalities are so distinctive. We just sync. They are excellent company, less hyper than dogs, and are excellent communicators.
Recently I read that they have human-like emotions and I think it's true. Purring is a magic feel better sleep elixir. You also can teach them tricks- both of ours fetch!

  45. Primarily dogs (have 2 Shihtz and 1 shepard/lab mix) and a black & white kibby. All are pets I've rescued. I think animals appreciate you even more when they know they've been rescued. Damn, I love my pets (and my husband!!!!!) :-)
