The Santa Maria May Have Been Found
Over 500 years has passed since Christopher Columbus abandoned his flagship, Santa Maria and left 39 unlucky crew members on the shore of Haiti to fend for themselves while Columbus made his way back to Spain on the Nina. The Pinta was in a different location at the time and there was no more room on the Nina for those 39. When Columbus returned to the spot the following year, all he found was a burned settlement and no survivors. Now, a man named Barry Clifford believes he has found the Santa Maria off the coast of Haiti. He was able to find it after discovering the burned settlement of Columbus' left behind party. Clifford says that he actually photographed the wreckage a decade ago but didn't put the pieces together until recently. He has a History Channel crew with him filming the recovery process.
Someone call Trooper!! They have a show to put on!
ReplyDeleteIt's in Atlantis, right?
ReplyDeleteDamn, we really need a like or +1 button here.
DeleteOh good. Our national nightmare is now over. Hope we get some History Channel blinds outt---ZzzZzzzzZZZzzzzzzzzz
ReplyDeleteI think that is super cool.
ReplyDeleteIt seems like no one was looking because it sounds like it was not terribly difficult judging by the clues. What else is just laying around that I can find!
ReplyDeleteneat. i hope this brings some more publicity to how haiti has not recovered. maybe a 2nd wave of attention and donations will be able to help more people.
ReplyDeletefor anyone who cares. i start recovery today. fingers crossed. hopefully i'll last longer than selena and lilo.
Good luck, headrot. Hope you can channel that strong will into kicking the ass of whatever is holding you down.

DeleteOne minute...one hour...one day!
DeleteGet It Girl!!!!
And they still can't find flight 370...500 years to go.
ReplyDeleteChristopher Columbus was a dirtbag.
ReplyDeleteYou know that scene in GoT (SPOILER ALERT) where Jaime gets his hand cut off and has to wear it around his neck? Columbus did it first to the Lucayan natives. Oh, and he rewarded his lieutenants with sex slaves, writing that girls as young as nine and ten were "in demand".
Here's the history lesson we should have received (and this one even has cool drawings):
Christopher Columbus is a dirtbag
They were so horrible, Latin America is full of natives and mixed people, while Amerindians form North America were almost erased from the face of the earth.
DeleteLSG Beat me to it :(
ReplyDeleteSo where is flight 370
ReplyDeleteHeadrot - don't know what you're in recovery for, but hope it all goes ok. Peace and all, Vx
ReplyDeleteBurn the ships! (awesome story)
ReplyDeleteGood luck with your paper headrot.
Burn the ships! (awesome story)
ReplyDeleteGood luck with your paper headrot.
Good luck headrot.:-))
ReplyDeletePs very cool on the Santa maria,,,!
Cortez is the burn the ships guy :) It's a great true story of the time period.
ReplyDeleteThough if I were on his crew and saw the ships burning, I'm not sure I would be pleasant.
Holy crap, Seven. I knew most of the real Columbus story, but not about the KoC. I'm embarrassed that misguided Catholics (I'm Catholic) lavish praise on this guy. Eesh.
ReplyDeleteOnly 499 years and 10 months until they find Malaysian Flight 370.
ReplyDeleteI will never understand how someone stumbles upon land with people already living there and gets credit for "discovering" it.
ReplyDeleteLucy, i thought about that too. I guess it means this person who finds you makes world aware of your being.
DeleteInteresting from a historical perspective, I suppose (though yes, it doesn't seem like there was much effort put into it). But agree @seven @lucy et al.
ReplyDeleteSo, much like Columbus and 'the new world', this guy will get credit for finding something that's just been kinda sitting there. The irony is rich. :-/
Headrot, congratulations to you and I'll pray for your healing. I'm routing for a kindred spirit, 16 days in the bag for me so far. Good luck.
ReplyDeleteGood luck with everything headrot and thoushaltnotgossip.

ReplyDeleteI can't read the word Haiti anymore without hearing Alicia Silverstone in Clueless pronouncing the word as Hate Ians.
ReplyDeleteAmerican History Channel, it must be aliens.
ReplyDeleteAbout the 10 y/o sex slaves, remember that Isabella, Queen of Spain at the time, married Ferdinand when she was 19 although she was engaged to a dude who died before their wedding since she was 3 (three). It was pretty normal at the time to marry at twelve or so (Lucrezia Borgia - 13, for example).
The reason that so many South American Indians died was because they couldn't cure a simple flu, that European's inmune system totally could. North American Native Americans died mainly of gunwound and knifes.
Ever since Fray Bartolomé de las Casas (Protector of the Indians) said that they were people (like Europeans), they were treated better than African Americans in the US in the 1950's.
Thou shalt: I'm so proud of you! Stay with it! You're awesome! Headrot, you can beat this demon. You are so smart and have an amazing future that doesn't involve heroin. If you apply half of your ass kickin sass that you show here, you can overcome this bump in the road. Just think of all the hours you've spent on papers, etc that you'd be throwing away if you stayed on your current path. Love!
ReplyDeleteGood luck headrot!
ReplyDeleteHeadrot - very best wishes to you. One second at a time. You can make it!
ReplyDeleteI am living and loving the bright light at the end of the tunnel. I cannot get over what little Faith I had that I could feel this good without my vices of choices. Fuck recovering, I consider myself recovered! (that's not an offense...just my own personal mantra/philosophy regarding substance abuse vs "addiction")
ReplyDeleteBlessings to you both, Headrot and Thoushallnotgossip.
@Headrot, you always struck me as so raw you were clearly battling, but so fierce you would surely win ;)
